I use a scan tool after repairing the cause of the code.

Many wheels and pulleys are very tight on the shaft and must be removed using a "puller". There are several types, some use jaws or clamps, others use bolts. The ones that use bolts come in different configurations with one of the configurations being "three bolt".
What that means is that the puller is attached to the pulley or wheel using three bolts, then a center bolt is used to push the puller and wheel/pulley assembly off the shaft. Trouble code P0842 means:Transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch "A" circuit low

The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

you can turn them off by disabling the automatic lights which is done by cutting the wire should be a grey wire on the back of the switch itself but i'd get a diagram to find out which color wire is the right one instead of cutting the wire you can you can pull the emergency brake one click and light up the brake light in the cluster the lights will turn off.

Trouble code P0172 means:System too rich (Bank 1)

NO it does not. The check engine light comes on when the ECU detects a problem with the emissions system and has nothing whatsoever to do with the outside temperature.

It won't go out unless you figure out whats causing it to come on. Most common is a faulty O2 sensor but could be a number of other components. Take it to Autozone or one of the common auto parts stores and have them scan it for the generic fault codes.

There are too many codes to list. You must get the code read at a service center to figure out what the problem is. The single most important thing to remember is that if a check engine light is flashing you must shut the vehicle down immediatley.Autozone reads codes for free.

A spark plug that doesnt fire or a coil that doesnt fire Try a new set of plugs and wires

This has to be done with a OBD2 scan tool. You might be able to get your local Auto Zone or Advanced Auto parts to do it. But different government agencies have been telling them not to do it. So you either have to buy the scan tool to do it, or pay to have someone else do it. Its cheaper probably to do it yourself. I think Auto Zone has a small hand held scanner tool for 50 bucks or so. Its the same tool they use to scan your car if you ask them too. Ask them to borrow it so you can reset your light, sometimes the let you do that too..

*** You may also try disconnecting the battery for around 20 minutes. That should reset the ECU also.. Nice and cheap*** If your vehicle still has a problem going on that its sensors find, it will still appear after a moment.
