What are the reasons for a transmission to clunk when the clutch is released?

Could be a number of things. I would check the U joins first then the motor mounts. Could also be the clutch plate (might have faulty springs that help to make it engage smoothly and absorb shock from releasing the pedal to quickly). Could be too much slop in the gears. Excessive wear in the gears and universal joints causes them to be loose and can make a clunk when they slap against eachother. Is the lever going into the transmission striking against something in the engine compartment? Maybe something has come loose and is being struck. Don't want to break a critical component. A broken motor mount will let the engine raise up and then slam down as the load on the engine is changed. (I had this happen in a '66 Caprice... or was it my '73 Fury?) All good answers,I'd check front u-joint first..my 2 cents answer all good answers, but before you dive into clutch or gearbox, check for slop on pinion shaft in differential also try letting clutch out slower

Where do you find the flywheel on an 86 Chevy Cavalier?

The flywheel- or in your case- it is really called a "flex plate" is bolted to the crankshaft, and it is what is used to bolt the torque converter to the engine. The starter's ring gear is also welded to the flex plate. If in the rare instance you do have a manual transmission, then the flywheel is used to transmit power from the engine through the clutch/input shaft of the transmission. In either case, it is located between the engine and the transmission.

Where is the blinker fluid reservoir located?

Blinker Fluid Reservoir? No such animal exists on a car, perhaps you were thinking of brake fluid, or wiper fluid? In those cases the wiper fluid is the large often times plastic tank that sits either on the left or right side of the engine bay usually towards the front center of either side. Master cylinder/brake fluid res, would be a much smaller tank about the size of a big cell phone on either side of the engine bay usually tucked up towards the firewall. it'll have a plastic scrwe cap or metal cap depending on the year of the vehicle.

Answerif someone tells you to check your blinker fluid, they are pulling your leg. It is a common practical joke played on people with little car knowledge. Chances are, they will also tell you to check your "muffler belt", another non-existant part.

Why does the clutch pedal stick to the floor?

You've blown a clutch hose by the sound of it, or you've got a leak in the clutch master or slave cylinder. Either way, without clutch fluid, the clutch pedal wont come off the floor and the clutch will be disengaged.

Any half decent mechanic should be able to figure out what the issue is without charging and arm and a leg.

Clutch will not disengage?

If it's a hydraulic clutch, try bleeding the slave cylinder. Manual linkage, try adjusting the clutch. If no help, something's wrong with the pressure plate and you need a new clutch.

How do you adjust the clutch on a 1972 vw bug?

Jack up the driver's side rear of the car. Support the unit with a jackstand, cars falling on you could really screw up your day. Get under car and look for the clutch release lever, it'll have a cable from the front of the car with a wingnut on the end and will be on a shaft coming out from the bell housing. Have friend measure the clutch pedal at rest with a ruler placed on the floor so that as one depresses the clutch pedal to the feeling of resistance one can measure the distance. This is known as free play. Too tight and you'll kill the throwout bearing or burn up the clutch plate. Too loose and you won't be able to shift without grinding gears. Back under car, if pedal is too tight (ie: not enough free play) twist the wingnut on the cable counter clockwise to set the free play to 1/2 to 3/4" . Reverse if too loose. Turn 3 complete revolutions and recheck free play.

How do you bleed the hydraulic clutch on a 96 Kia Sephia?

There is a bleeder nut/valve (8mm) on the master slave which is located on the front of the transmission you'll need 2 people have some one press all the way down on the clutch and have the other person open and close the valve and keep doing it only keep the valve open for a second though until all the air is out but keep watching the fluid reservoir and keep it above "Min" on it bleed all the air out then tighten up the valve fairly snug and your set

If the transmission has a leak and the car wont drive when its in gear what is the cause of it?

Are you asking the cause of the leak or cause of the not moving problem. If your fluid is low that may be the problem right there. YOU CAN BURN OUT A TRANSMISSION BY NOT KEEPING FLUID FULL!!!

How do you hold the flywheel still 2000 Chevy blazer to take the bolt out of the torque converter?

A cats paw will fit nicely into the grove just in front of the flywheel (engine side) The curve on the long pry side is just enough to slip into the oval hole in the fly wheel while coming straight out and you can rest it on the frame of the vehicle. All this takes place where the starter mounts to the flywheel. You must have removed the starter and the starter dust cover. Use a 15mm wrench to turn the fly wheel with one of the three flywheel to torque converter bolts toward the starter hole then the above can be done to lock the flywheel into place.
