How do you replace the clutch on a 1994 Nissan Sentra?

Well, this vehicle has a fairly easy clutch to replace. I'm going to assume this is a 2WD vehicle and that you will be doing the job on the ground. Jack the front of the vehicle as high as you safely can and be sure you use jack stands to support the vehicle. Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Remove the top two transmission bolts, 1 and 2, from the top while you let the transmission fluid drain out and before jacking the car up. Now, remove the front wheels and remove the large axle nut from the end of the axle shaft. Push the axle shaft in. It won't move far, you just want to make sure it will move. If it doesn't, put the nut back on backwards and screw it in until it's flush with the end of the axle shaft. Put a piece of 2x4 over the end of the axle shaft and tap it loose. Never hit the end of the axle shaft alone. Doing so WILL destroy the threads. Disconnect the lower ball joints from the lower control arms. There are two or three bolts that hold it on. Slide the axle shafts out of the hub and swing the struts rearward. You can tie them out of the way. With a large screwdriver, get between the inner CV joint and transmission and pop the axle shafts out of the transmission. Be careful not to tear the a CV boots and lay them aside. Next, remove the starter motor. Then remove the transmission housing bolts 3, 4 and 5. Place a floor jack under the transmission. When the transmission is supported properly, remove the last bolt, 6. Get a pry bar between the transmission and engine block and pop the transmission loose. slide it back and down. I think that at this point I should mention you should get a mask to prevent breathing in the dust. Some clutches use asbestos and breathing it in can cause health problems. Once the transmission is out of the way, you will see the pressure plate. There are six bolts that hold it in place. Loosen each one a turn at a time until the pressure plate hangs loose. Keeping things even is the key here. You might have to pop the pressure plate loose before you remove all the bolts. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. Note the direction of the clutch disc so you can install the new one the same way. Some replacement clutch discs will be marked with "Flywheel side" on them. Insure the replacement clutch parts are identical to the old ones. If you are going to have the flywheel resurfaced, remove it now. Put a paint mark one bolt hole and a mark on the flywheel so you can position the flywheel the same way when you reinstall it. Okay, the flywheel is back in and we're ready to go on. Clean any oil or rust preventative off the face of the pressure plate. I rough up both sides of the clutch disc and pressure plate with some 100 grit sand paper. If you bought a kit, there should be a clutch alignment tool in it. Put the tool through the clutch disc and, with the pressure plate, put it into position. Did you make sure you have the clutch disc facing the right way? Now start the six pressure plate bolts. With the tool line up the clutch disc in the pilot hole. While holding the tool and clutch disc in position, tighten the pressure plat bolts in a diagonal pattern one turn at a time. Keep going until the bolts are tight, 22 foot pounds. Replace the throwout bearing. Apply some white lithium grease to the shaft the bearing rides on, the ball and pivot for the clutch fork, the area the clutch fork rides on the throwout bearing and the splines of the input shaft. Once that's done, move the transmission into position and, here comes the fun part, lift it up and into position. The transmission is not very heavy which makes things a lot easier. You may need to twist and turn the transmission to get the splines of the input shaft to line up with the splines of the clutch disc. In addition, the input shaft must be perpendicular to the clutch shaft. If you have the clutch disc positioned properly, it should slide right in when the splines mesh. Now put a couple of bolts in and get the jack out of the way. That's it! Just work your way back and put everything back together, refill the transmission with transmission fluid and you will be done. When you replace the axle shaft nut, be sure you use a new cotter pin. Pretty simple and straightforward. It will probably take about four or five hours. Hope this can help (Chris Waine) .

How do you replace the clutch in a Pontiac Fiero?

Basic ways to change a fiero clutchThia answer assumes you have changed a clutch before and know how to insure your own safety.

The easy way to change a fiero clutch is to use a hoist raise the car off the engine/trans/cradle assembly, Remove the transmission and access the clutch. (THERE IS A LOT LESS WORK TO BE DONE IF YOU SIMPLY UNBOLT THE EXHAUST AND THE MOTOR MOUNT AND PULL THE ENGINE FROM THE CRADLE AFTER YOU HAVE PULLED THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY! THIS WAY THERE IS NO REASON TO PULL ANY BALL JOINTS OR AXLES. AND THE ENGINE HAS STOCK PULLING EYE POINTS TO GRAB IT WITH.)

Next hardest is to raise the rear of the car so the rear of the car is raise a minimum of three feet clear of the ground. Remove rear wheels disconect park brake cables etc. Support the engine, i ussualy do this by using a crossmember above the engine suported by the shock towers. Next loosen but do not remove the front cradle bolts. Disconect the following, exshaust at the down pipe where the system conects to the engine from the portion mounted on the cradle. Disconect the control arms at the ball joint and pull the half shafts out, usually I can get away with only pulling the drivers clear of the wheel bearing and hub assembly, the other I can usaualy get clear of the trans without disturbing that hub assembly. Unhook all conections to the cradle, engine mounts ground cable etc. Remove the rear cradle bolts, the cradle will need to be lowered to the ground, heavy and dangerous, it should pivot on the front bolts to alow access to the back of the trans. Carefull with the hydraulics as these are getting very rare or expensive as are the shift cables. Reinstall reverse proccess. This is dirty dangerous and no fun. I only do this if I powder my clutch far from home and can't aford to have a trany shop do it. But it can be done with basic hand tools and some patience.

The hardest way is to pull the engine out the top. It will come as long as the exshaust manifolds are pulled. Allow several hours to drill out broken exhaust manifold bolts any time you disturb them. The only time I did this type of engine pull on a fiero I covered the rear window with cardboard to protect it from my stupidity.

How can you stop a broody hen from being broody?

All the answers below work to some extent, the main theme in each answer is the same. The broody hen just wants to be left alone and if she is bothered too much she will stop brooding. Keep her occupied and away from the nest she has chosen. Remove any and all eggs, move her as often as possible and bother her, making her uncomfortable. This will work in most cases.

Why not just remove the eggs? She willll sit on nothing for a couple days but she will figure it out! Dunk the hen's belly in a pail of cold water until feathers are soaked several times a day. Continue soaking until the hen ceases being broody (usually couple days). Tried, tested and true. Removing the eggs is best way, but be careful; depending on the breed, some hens will be very stubborn. I once had a hen who went broody, we candled the eggs after a week and saw they were bad so we removed them. She would not leave the nest. We kept feeding her at the nest but we had to get her off. We forced her off the nest into a nearby pen with the other chooks. She paced the fence for days, dug under the fence and raced back to her empty nest. She had lost a lot of weight and by the time she gave up on her empty nest more than three months had passed. === === I usually put the hen in a pen with no roost and then put a rooster in with her. Young roosters that are very "sexually excited" work best. She will get bothered and will get out of the broodiness stage. Also you could try putting her in a wire pen with a wire bottom off the ground. The wind will blow under her keeping her cooler and she will get out of the broodiness mood.

Where is the slave cylinder on a 94 Chevy S-10 pickup?

The slave cylinder is actually built onto the throw-out bearing. If you have a problem with it you will have to pull the trans.

Where is the release valve for the clutch fluid?

if youre referring to the bleeder valve, its on the clutch slave cylinder bolted to the transmission

Is it normal for 03 883 sportster to have a distinct clunk when switching gears Also have to hold clutch in for a second or two so it doesn't chatter and has some knock ticking when eng warm?

Harley transmissions are known for the loud clunk. Make sure the primary/clutch oil level is OK. Or go ahead and change it out. You will need 24-26oz of sports trans fluid. There is a small pipe plug in the bottom of the primary case, not the one with the hex nut on it. Loosen and drain all the fluid into a container(discard old oil) Clean the magnet on the pipe plug. (there will be metal shavings on the magnet/thats OK) Replace the pipe plug, do not tighten all the way in, the thread is tapered. On the side of the case there is a small round fill plug with two screws holding it in place. (About the size of a silver dollar) Replace 24-26oz of sports trans fluid. That should solve your shift problems. To adjust the clutch cable. To have the clutch release where you feel the most comfortable. There is an adjustment barrel assembly in the cable housing attached to the front of the frame. Roll the rubber boot cover away from the adjuster. There you will find a hex body and locknut. Loosen the locknut,(1/2" & 9/16" wrenches) to have the clutch grab sooner: turn the hex body counter clock a few threads,(this lengthens the cable cover) test setting. To have the clutch engage at a farther out lever position, turn the body clock wise. The Harley-Davidson V-twin is a noisy engine. A whole bunch of nasty noise, like it is going to fly apart. Hope you have many years of good riding...

How do you fix the clutch pedal in a 1994 geo prizm if it is incredibly loose and will not go into gear?

clutchIt is most likely the clutch itself that is the problem and not the pedal, its probably time to replace it. When the clutch becomes worn to the point where it is no good any more you wont have enough pedal travel to disengage it. clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinderThe clutch master cylinder bolts to the firewall next to the brake master cylinder and provides hydraulic pressure to operate the clutch. If the fluid level in its reservoir is extremely low it will cause the clutch pedal to flop about with no resistance due to air in the lines. The clutch slave cylinder is mounted on the transaxle housing and operates the clutch arm. One of the two are leaking.

Refill the clutch master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid and bleed the air out of the system by having a capable assistant pump the clutch pedal a few times then hold the pedal to the floor. With the pedal on the floor, crack open the bleeder screw open to allow the air/fluid to spew out and retighten the screw. Repeat the process of pumping the pedal and holding it on the floor and opening the bleeder screw. When this operation yields only brake fluid (no air) you have bled the air from the system.

Note that the first few times you do this you probably will get more air than fluid. Pedal pressure will increase as the air is dispelled. Keep an eye on the fluid level in the reservoir. As the air is displaced with fluid the level in the reservoir drops. If the level drops below the inlet port you have to start the bleeding process from the beginning.

These master and slave cylinders fail from time to time and are available from your local parts store.

Good luck.

Ac compressor clutch engages but won't cool and won't take charge?

There is a filter/strainer screen on most AC liquid lines between the condenser and indoor evaporator coil. This strainer is probably stopped up and needs to be changed.

If the AC compressor clutch does not kick in and the relay and fuse are ok what could be the problem?

The clutch receives it's signal to engage from a pressure switch in the system.

If there is insufficient refrigerant in the system the pressure switch will not close

resulting in no power at the compressor clutch to make it engage.

What is the difference between clutch control and coasting?

What is problem if transmission tries to go in gear with clutch all the way in on a ford ranger 1998?

Clutch hydrauic problem with master, slave, line or check where the master connects to the clutch pedal for a missing bushing

How do you remove the flywheel of a 1991 Ford Festiva?

With most flywheels once, you have removed the obvious parts, pulleys, bolts etc, you will need to "Draw" the flywheel off the dowels. Often there are two "Threaded Blind Holes". Using suitable size bolts you can screw these in and draw off the flywheel, if there aren't any holes, use a suitable lever (Large screwdriver) and carefully prise the flywheel off.

How do you fit a vauxhall vectra clutch MASTER cylinder AND how do you determine if its knackered?

Remove the clevis pin from the pedal the remove the master cyl from the bulkhead A quick way to test the cylinder is clamp the flexible hose that leads to the slave cylinder when the hose is clamped, the clutch pedal should be solid.

What if your flywheel missing teeth on your Pontiac Grand Am?

It can cause a rough idle and random misfires because the engine will be off balance. If the flywheels happens to stop with the missing teeth (tooth) in the starting position, the the engine will not even crank.

Where do you find the clutch fluid reservoir on a 1989 Toyota hiace?

Toyota hiace has one common fluid reservoir for both brake and clutch system. it is located left lateral side of dash, it can't be seen when front left door is close.

If the slave cylinder wont build up pressure and you've tried bleeding it and the master cylinder and the slave cylinder is good then what would make it not work?

a leak in the pressure line could do it. are you sure the seals in the cylnders are good? Is the slave not holding pressure, or is the master not building pressure? How did you bleed it? it makes a difference. Also, if the master or slave cylinders weren't bench bled before installation, it can take a very long time to bleed all of the air out of the cylinders.

What type transmission fluid does a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero take?

How do you install a flywheel on a 1988 Chevy 350?

Big job. To replace a flywheel, you need to remove the drive shaft, and the gearbox. iIf a manual transmission, you will also need to remove the clutch and pressure plate. If an automatic, you will need to remove the torque converter. With all this removed, you then remove the flywheel and replace with new one. then reinstall clutch, etc gear box and driveshaft. It is a good idea at this time ,if a manual transmission,to replace the clutch, while you have it apart. "NOTE" make sure when you replace flywheel that the correct number of teeth on flywheel will match number of teeth on starter motor. To do this mark a tooth on the flywheel and count the teeth.Alos count the teeth on the starter motor.installing wrong one will chew up the teeth on new flywheel and starter and then you will have to start all over.
