How do you replace the clutch and throw out bearings?
What kind of vehicle? There are different transmissions, and different setups. For example, front wheel drive transmissions usually have to be supported from above the engine to remove the transmission. Then the clutch, and throwout bearing can be replaced. Caution!!! The engine being supported is NOT the only different thing you have to do. So reply with your vehicle Make, Model, and Year. I will be able to help you.

Most likely the clutch is shot. When the clutch plate can't engage with the transmission there will be slippage between the engine and the drive wheels.

How do you change clutch on Yamaha 450 yfz?
depending on what you would like to do, you can drain the oil, or set the bike down on its left side to work on it without havig to drain the oil.
you should get a complete clutch kit with springs, and also a clutch cover gasket.
its possible to get away with reusing the gasket, but it really sucks when it starts leaking in the middle of the dessert.
remove the rear brake lever, and spring, then take loose all the bolts on the clutch cover.
try to lift it off.
if it doesn't want to come loose easily, use a SOFT hammer and tap it from behind.
after you have the cover off, remove the six bolts holding the springs on.
lift off the pressure plate and clutch pack.
soak the new clutch parts in oil, and then set them in place in the same order that the old ones came out.
put the pressure plate back on with new springs, and torque the bolts to 8 ft-lbs.
re-install the clutch cover with a new gasket, and some sort of sealant. I recommend purple loctite anarobic sealant because it never hardens, and cant clog oil passages like silicone.
re-install the rear brake lever and spring.
if you drained the oil, change the filter, and then fill the motor wil oil.
that's pretty much it.
*I forget if this bike has a cable of hydraulic clutch, but if it's cable actuated, you'll need to take loose the cable too.

How do you bleed the clutch on a 1982 Toyota Pickup 2WD?
First you will need a helper. Second a small 1/8 inch ID Clear rubber hose about 3 ft long, a bottle to catch the brake fluid and the correct size box end wrench (so you don't screw up the bleeder value). Next locate the bleeder value on the slave cylinder attach your clear hose. Have your helper "pump" the clutch pedal 4 to 5 times and hold it down then you turn the wrench to release the pressure. Then tighten it and have your helper pump the pedal again and repeat till you feel the air is removed from the line. Good Luck and Remember.

What are all the steps to changing gears on a dirt bike?
You change the gears using your gear lever (obviously). On almost any bike out there you upshift by pushing the lever up and downshift by tapping it down, this also makes sense, doesn't it? Easy to remember...
The actual shifting goes like this:
Step1: Roll back on the throttle
Step2: Pull in the clutch
Step3: Shift
Step4: Release the clutch (gently)
Step5: Power up (also gently)
Some people might say things like : "You can get from 3rd to 4th without using clutch" or "you can downshift without using clutch" etc... Well, if you're not using clutch you risk damaging your gearbox which is quite expensive to repair. these features vary on different bikes so unless that person has a bike just like yours, don't do it!

check your clutch fluid...i had the same problem on my s-10. if your clutch fluid is low fill it up with either clutch fluid or break fluid works too. make sure that your master cylinder isn't leaking too, this could be the cause of low clutch fluid. (you should check that every six months)
New Answer HeadlineThe slave cylinder needs replacing. This is located under the vehicle, possibly on passenger side as long as it is an external one however on some truck models it will be located inside the front of the transmission thus meaning transmission must be dropped to get to it This is what makes your clutch work very similar to the breaking system beings how at times if had a leak you would need to top off the fluid level(brake fluid) and then bleed the clutch to remove air from line and to bring pedal pressure back up that will in turn allow you to shift gears the slave cylinder will have a bleed nipple on it just like your brake lines do AnswerIt depends on the car.If your clutch is hydraulic--not all of them are, kids--you've either got a low (well, no) fluid condition, a bad master cylinder, a bad clutch cylinder or a leak somewhere between the two cylinders.
If it's a cable-operated clutch, the cable needs adjusting really bad.
How do you replace the clutch slave cylinder on 97 Cavalier?
The slave cylinder is in a unit which includes the throw out bearing. Therefore, it actually "wraps around" the transmission input shaft. This means that you have to remove the transmission to replace it. According to Haynes and Chilton manuals, this means partial disassembly of the front suspension, removal of the drive (half) shafts, and supporting the engine while you remove the transmission. The local garage is pricing this for me as I type (03-21-2008), since it's a bit much for my shade tree. It looks like it will be between $500 and $800, including parts.
