What is red emergency start light on dash for on a 1993 rockwood motor home?

It is to start the vehicle if the "main" battery is dead, in other words, there are additional batteries that power the lights, etc. in the motorhome, and a battery that is reserved for the engine. If this "engine" battery dies, the motorhome can still be started - hooray - by pushing this button which uses the other batteries to start the engine. We experienced this first hand on a cross country trip. Another piece of information that we didn't know - the generator will not run if there is less than 1/4 tank of gas, so always gas up before you are that low - we learned the hard way when we got a flat tire in Oklahoma City in July on a 100+ degree day and could not run the A/C through the generator while we were waiting for road service. Good luck! We have a 1993 30 foot Rockwood.

Should the timing belt be replaced when changing the water pump on a 1996 Jeep Cherokee?

Ahhh, good question and the answer is YES! IN order to get to the water pump you have to take off the belt. I know this because I had the water pump replaced earlier in the year and had them put on a new belt. I asked them what was involved they said they would have to remove the belt. I then asked if I just buy a belt and give it to you will you put it on no additional charge since you have to remove the current one anyway? They said yes and got out with it free.

Its always a good idea to ask what is involved with a repair process just in case you can get a few things fixed along the way. IN this case it saved me about $75 bucks because it would take an hour down the road to replace the belt (not including the part price) so if I know that there will be a part that will need to be replaced in the near future and it must be removed from the car while doign another repair, might as well get it done then. If you have a trustworthy repair man they won't charge you extra.

I would always do any type of additional replacements of any parts that will deteorate over time when getting other services done that require removal of the part in question.

Jeep Cherokee AnswerThis answer is partially in error - but with good intentions. What needs to be replaced is the serpentine belt ($20 - 30) and yes, I would replace it anytime I had to remove the old one for survive (alternator, water pump, power steering, etc). You do not have a timing belt on your Jeep, it is a timing CHAIN, so you should not have the maintenance associated with autos that have an over head cam.

How do you replace the belt tensioner on a 1999 dodge durango?

I did this a few years ago on my 2000 Durango. This was very straightforward and a little difficult. Bought the part from the dealer - about $135 if I remember correctly. I then just removed the serpentine belt and unbolted and removed the existing tensioner. This was easy so far. I then tried to put the new one in. Very difficult to get the bolts in. Tried removing brackets in the way - this didn't really help. I just kept at it and finally got everything together. Good luck. I did this a few years ago on my 2000 Durango.
