the brushes in the motor are worn. If you are handy, some auto parts stores sell brushes that will fit the motor. You may have to grind them down just a bit to get them to fit, as well as solder the wires in place. A new motor was $130 for my 2001 Chryslet Town and country. I had an old drill I sacrificed and removed the brushes and did it for the cost of an obsolete drill.

get a pocket knife or something sharp and pry up on switch, it just pops up then unplug wire and replace switch then push down to reinstall switch very simple as I just put in 2 of them in less than 5 mins.

This involves removing the window regulator to gain access to the motor. REMOVE: Window control panel and disconnect wiring plugs. Door trim panel Door weather sheet Now that the easy part is done, you can remove the door glass. If the window can not be lowered to at least half way, this will be difficult. Remove the two bolts on the bottom and slide the glass up and out of the window channel. Remove the four bolts that hold the motor/guide assembly and remove it from the door and repair or replace as needed. Reverse steps to assemble and you are done. Good job. HAVE A BEER !!

To things like that that are unrelated would probably be a fuse, enjoy because there are 3 fuse boxes but more the likely its the one inside on the driver side of the dash.

It's usually either a bad switch or a broken wire between the door and car body. carefully remove the switch, unplug it and use a jumper wire in the socket to check the motor operation. just be sure to jumper the correct wires so you don't short something out. If there is still a problem, pull the door panel, unplug the motor and hook up a 12-volt test light to the proper connections in that socket. hold the switch on and slowly open and close the door, watching the light. if the light is not steady then you probably have a broken wire.

You dont, you replace them.

The power windows have a automatic reset circuit breaker. They are not fused.

It is to the right of the steering wheel, behind the paneling below where your knee would rest. You do not have to remove anything, you can just reach behind the paneling.

First, carefully pry up the switch console on the side that is affected, i.e., driver's side front and back windows are controlled by the left set of switches, passenger windows are on the right set of switches,

Use a small jeweler's style or similar flathead screwdriver for this task, and pry from the bottom of the oblong shaped plastic piece that the two switches are mounted upon. Small, gentle prying amounts applied a little at a time will assure that the switch and the mounting area remain undamaged.

Once the switch console is removed (quite often this is the driver's side set, due to heavier use), carefully pull the wiring harness up a few inches to reveal the Molex style modular plug mounted on the bottom of this unit.

Gripping the modular plug between your thumb and forefingers, grip and squeeze inwards to release the plastic tabs on either side of the plug, then gently wiggle the plug front to back while pulling downward to completely remove the plug from the wiring harness.

Unfortunately, no repair of the individual switches are possible, as this is a sealed unit that contains both the front and rear window switches, however, once the non functional switch console is replaced with a new (or used from a place like pullapart.com) unit, reinstalling it is a breeze. Simply reconnect the modular plug at the bottom to the wiring harness and gently pop the switch console back into place.

your electronic control module is bad, it will cost around 800.00 plus it is located under the drivers seat! good luck!

I would check your fuse panel. There might be more than one blown fuse as power windows shouldn't be on the same circuit as the radio/clock.

Another more annoying possibility is a short in the ignition so that the car doesn't know its on. My Grand Am one night, would drive, the dash lights worked, the door locks worked, but my a/c, blower fan, heater, windows, radio and a few other things didn't which was bad because it was summer. Ended up being the ignition short mentioned earlier.

But go for the cheaper option first, check your fuses. You can look in your owners manual to find out which ones do what. If you don't have the manual, just check them all.

The wiring diagram for the power windows for a Pontiac Montana should be in the owner manual. A manual can be purchased if the original is not with the car.

you need a new belt for the motor to raise and lower the window you need a new belt for the motor to raise and lower the window

went thru this with my husband's car and it is easy to fix. take a flat head screw driver and CAREFULLY pop out the unit which has ALL the main controls 2 the windows. When you get this out, there will be a wire connector connecting the wires together, CAREFULLY disconnect this. make sure you bring a flat head screw driver with you and then visit your local junk yard and show them the part you need and they will take you out to a wrecked car. just take the part out the same way you did your car. when home, connect the wires and BE CAREFUL putting the part back in -DO NO SHOVE IT IN - this will cause it 2 fall inside the door panel. Your windows WILL work when done. GOOD LUCK!

I would try to get some technical diagram of the vehicle door. Then, as you understand the layout of the components within the door, the part that you can not not see, you should try to put the window on track. This can be done by a help of another person. Think of it this way, you need to fish the window on the track but you can not see the track - to do this, you need to set the track half way and then work the window with both hands onto the track. How do you know where the track is when you power the window up/down - I don't know. However, I ended up taking the car door apart to get inside and look at the window as I reseated onto the track. You may need to do the same or pay a technician 300.00 to do it for you.

Remove the inside door panel of your 1997 Mercury Cougar. Remove the wiring harness from the window motor. Remove the window motor linkage. Remove the window motor retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new window motor.
