How do you Change timing belt 1998 Ford Ranger?

not enough info,need motor size

That all the info one needs. In 1998 the only engine on ford rangers having a timing belt was the 2.5L Lima engine. The 3 and 4L has timing chains. The 2.3 came later.

Rotate the crank shaft to top dead center using a breaker bar and 7/8" socket. The truck should be in neutral with the park brake set. Rotate the engine clockwise. There is a mark on the outer timing belt cover marked "TDC". Align the long mark on the crank shat balancer with the TDC notch. You DON'T need to remove spark plugs or drain the coolant or disconnect the radiator hose.

Remove the serpentine belt. Use a 3/8" drive socket on the tensioner and rotate it towards the passenger side and remove the belt from the alternator. You now will have enough slack to take it off. Remove water pump pulley held on by 4 bolts. The fan will also come out. Remove the radiator shroud by removing the 2 bolts at the top corners. Unbolt the ac compressor bolts and set it aside as best you can (no need to disconnect hoses). Next, you'll unbolt the bracket the ac compressor was attached to. It is held on by 4 bolts. One of these in underneath the compressor (before it was removed). One is rearward on it. The other two are between the power steering pump and compressor and are close together. Just let the bracket hang out of the way.

Next you will have to remove the crankshaft pulley/balancer. This bolt is TIGHT. Some people suggested using an impact, but you'll have to remove the radiator to have room for that. I did it a different way. First just try to break it loose with your breaker bar. Set the brake and put it in 5th gear. It is a right hand thread so just loosen it as you would any bolt. If you can't break it loose, disconnect the wires on the coil pack, position the breaker bar with socket on the bolt so that the handle rests or almost rests on the driver side frame. Hit the starter very briefly and it will break loose. Verify that it is loose and again realign the timing tdc marks. Remove the crankshaft pulley. You may need a puller for this available for loan at advance auto parts. Once this is off a stamped dot on one of the gear teeth is visible and will line up with a notch on the engine.

Remove the outer timing belt cover. It is held in place by 1 10mm bolt and several interlocking tabs around its periphery. Look at the camshaft belt guide at the 5 Oclock position. You should see a timing mark (triangle pointing to another triangle on the inner cover. If not, rotate the engine one more rotation and it WILL.

Loosen the pivot bolt on the tensioner and the other bolt allowing a arced movement in a slot. You DON"T need the special tool to release the belt tension. A crow bar will work fine. Position it so that one end is on the pulley and the other is on the pivot bolt. The old timing belt will protect the pulley. Release tension and simultaneously tighten the tension bolt (not pivot bolt) Take the old belt off and put the new one on starting at the crankshaft and going counterclockwise. Try to get all the slack out before releasing the tensioner or else you'll have the cam rotate a tooth off once it's released. Release the tensioner. Make sure all the marks are in alignment. Crank it up before you put all that stuff back on only to learn it is out of time.

I just did this yesterday and replaced the serpentine belt while I was at it.

How to change the time belt on a daewoo nubira 99'?

Changing the timing belt can be an easy or very difficult and costly repair. If you are just changing it for the sake of keeping it up to par, then the easiest thing to do is remove the engine mount and jack up the one side of the engine, then pull off the timing cover. from there, all you really need to do is remove the balancer, pull the belt off, put a new one on, and then reattach the balancer.

The difficult part is if you are changing the belt after it has broken (as i am in the process of now). Since i had a cherry picker, i decided to simply pull the engine out. not the easiest option, but because the daewoo cylinder heads leave no space between the piston and the valves, you WILL, and i repeat WILL have to replace some bent valves. I had the engine out, pulled off the head, had it reworked, and I'm putting everything back together. while installing the new timing belt, you might as well put in a new water pump. Good luck if this is your problem. I have taken some time doing this, and 185 dollars for the new head gasket set didn't please me either.

Where is the transmission dipstick in a Ford Ranger?

According to a ford ranger forum, if it's a 5 speed manual there isn't one! Haha I thought I was going crazy that I couldn't find it!

Or I've also heard in other cars there is a stick inside the cabin of the car.

But ford rangers that are 5spd manuals don't have em!

How do you change an ECM in a 1997 Caravan?

You will need a 10mm socket, short and long extensions, 13mm wrench and a flat-blade screwdriver. 1. Disconnect and remove the battery. 2. Locate the 2 10mm bolts on the right side of the elctrical relay panel (big black rectangular box to the right of the battery). Remove the bolts, and tilt the panel to the left. 3. Remove the 10mm bolts holding the ECU to the driver-side fender well. Tilt the ECU away from the wall, then disconnect the 2 plugs on the end (squeeze the top of the U-shaped retainer on the side of the plug to release).

Why would my 1995 Pontiac Transport continue to stall out while driving despite my having had egr valve replaced and a tune up done?

It could be a dirty throttle body. With the age of the vehicle & the fact that that PCV valve draws its venting vacuum thru here you may need to pull the air intake hose, remove the snap ring holding in the screen, then CAREFULLY the screen. Go to a good parts store & buy some throttle body cleaner & a plastic toothbrush. Hold the throttle open (ENGINE NOT RUNNING) spray the throttle plate & bore thengently clean with plastic brush until all carbonived oily reside is gone. Next you could have a bad idle air control valve if it dies while at idle speed I'm assuming that you,ve checked for vacuum leaks. If it happens only when warm while driving or sitting still, then takes a few minutes b4 it restarts it could be a bad ignition module. Hope this helps.

What size breaker should you use if you have a 1500 and a 1000 watt heater run together?

The size of the breakers depends on the voltage. According to the NFPA electrical standard (USA), if the two heaters you describe are "120 volt plug-in" then they are not allowed on the same circuit. Two circuits are needed. The largest general use circuit allowed for 120 volt receptacles is 20 amps and this will not handle your two appliances. An exception may exist if they are hard wired to a dedicated circuit, or if they are 240 volt.

Where is oil pressure sender on Ford Ranger 4.0 liter engine?

How do you know which ignition coil is number 1 on a 1999 I30 when diagnostics give error code P301?

I purchased a HAYNES repair manual ($10) for the 1999 Nissan Maxima; vehicles have same engine and mechanical components. The manual will depict the numbering of the cylinders/ignition coils. In addition,I suggest purchasing a $10 multimeter, you can benchcheck the ignition coil in question, which the manual will provide you with a step-by-step procedure. WARNING: If you have one bad ignition coil, get prepared to change more...this seems to be a common problem with the Maxima and Infiniti I30s. The dealership charges an outrageous price for these, but I suggest Auto Zone (Wells igntion) or the likes for purchasing these for if you have to replace all six this might save you $300 or more. your owners manuel should have the cylinder designations

Where do you add antifreeze in the engine I don't want to pour it in the wrong place I bought an antifreeze that is already mixed.?

Don't forget 50/50 solution too

What kind of vehicle? What size engine? You don't add antifreeze to the engine, anyway. There should be an overflow jug on post '85 vehicles and on pre '85 vehicles you add the antifreeze to the radiator only. Please check your owner's manual or ask your car dealer for further information.

Where is the fuel pump located on a 2000 Subaru Outback?

It's in the fuel tank, which is located under the rear passenger seat on the passenger side. Start by reaching between the seat bench and the seat back for the black nylon pull loop. Make sure both front seats are moved all the way forward. Lift the bench straight up to a 90 degree angle. On the passenger side is the pump. Remove the gas hoses with pliers, be careful if you break a plastic pump connection, it's one solid piece to replace and costs $350 brand new (did this so I should know). Once you remove the hoses, remove all the bolts. Lift the item straight up and be careful don't break the float. The pump is a 2"X4" cylinder, pretty small. Really easy to replace once you figure this all out.
