How to turn the ABS light off on a 98 Ford Windstar Wagon after the brakes have been changed and routers turned?

The ABS warning light is being triggered by something else - likely a wheel sensor is sending off a trouble code.

I had my ABS codes read by a well equipped tire shop - I suspect a brake shop, general repair/service shop, of course the dealer, can read these codes and help diagnose the problem.

In my case, the left front ABS wheel sensor had failed - $45 (dealer price), and 20 minute DIY replacement job: ABS warning light immediately cleared itself the next time I started the vehicle.

How would you fix a gas gauge which quit working on a 1998 Ford Windstar after it was allowed to run low on fuel?

I would guess the level sensor float-arm is stuck - try banging the bottom of the tank with a 2x4 piece of wood - not too hard, just seeing if the arm will come loose.

If not, essentially the only way of getting at the sensor is by dropping the gas tank.

How do you replace a stuck wheel stud?

There are several methods to remove a frozen bolt or stud.

The first and easiest method is to apply a penetrant (not a lubricant) and let it soak, overnight if necessary - something like PB Blaster is excellent, and will work much better than the more popular WD-40.

If you don't have the patience for penetrants, you can try applying heat to the wheel hub with a torch. Propane will be OK, but MAPP gas is hotter and will therefore work better. Don't apply the heat to the stud, as that will expand it tighter into the hole. You want to heat the hub so the hole gets larger, freeing the stud for removal.

If the stud is still stuck and the hub must remain on the car, you can try a deadblow hammer or mallet, with several nuts turned onto the stud to protect the threads and to maximize the area you can strike with the mallet.

Lastly, you will have to remove the hub if nothing else has worked and use a shop press to press out the stud.

Good luck!

How do you fix washer fluid leak under the passenger side of a Ford Windstar?

The fluid hose is a small hard black hose.

As it leaves the bottom of the reservoir, it traces along the passenger side Of the engine compartment (kinda down low) until the back corner (behind the power steering reservoir) and it comes upwards - it then turns the corner across to the right along the firewall.

It then takes a 90 degree turn and enters the windshield 'cowl' panel - right near the cabin filter cover. (see Owners Manual and/or Related Questions below)

Inside the cowl, there is a junction to the passenger side nozzle, and continues on to end at the drivers side nozzle.

As you can imagine, there are a number of connectors in this length of hosing. Any one of them could come loose and be the source of the leak.

It's also possible for the leak to be under the top cowl panel and drain over towards the passenger side.

If you don't find the leak is before the cowl, the "Related Question" below provide great detail in how to remove the top panel and get at the rest of the hose and connections.

CHow can you know if your pulley is bad or the entire tensioner assembly on a Windstar?

If the tensioner cannot put a full 'load' on a new belt (as shown by the wear indicator markings on the side of the tensioner) - it's likely the tensioner requires replacing.

NOTE: some sources recommend replacing it at 60,000

A bad pulley (bearing) would be making whining/screaming noises.

Does the E46 BMW M3 need to be topped off with oil regularly?

yes, it is designed that way and completely normal. <--- this is absurd!

No, not necessarily. I don't believe any manufacturer would design an engine to intentionally burn/lose oil. You may need to top off your oil regularly depending on a few factors; 1. the condition of your engine; If your need to top off your oil every few weeks chances are you have put a lot of wear and tear on your engine block. Consider having your piston seals replaced. 2. The type of oil you use; If you drive an M3 I would highly recommend using fully synthetic oil, some more expensive German oils have anti friction technology which makes it even harder to burn and improves overall performance. 3 the way you drive the car; obviously, if you drive for 130+ mph for extended periods of time and are using regular oil, you will definitely generate enough heat to lose some oil... so to answer your question, NO should not have to top off your oil regularly in your e46 M3, unless any of those three conditions apply. Now on that note, you should still check your oil level at least once a month, top it off if nessisary.

Personally I drove an e36 M3 for 10000 miles over 10 months, often at very high speeds for extended periods of time and never had to add a single drop oil. The engine is obviously in near flawless condition and I use Lubro Moly MoS2 Anti Friction 10w40 oil. If your looking for the ultimate engine oil they also make a 0w40 which is endorsed by BMW.

It is normal oil consumption for ANY BMW to burn 1 quart with in 3k miles(conventional or synthetic). Look it up on BMWTIS. 10k on 1 oil change for 10 months could be considered abuse. Conventional oil is 3k miles, synthetic is 6k miles, regardless of these 10k to 12k oils.
