every 25,000 miles or every five oil changes which ever comes first.

"Check Engine / Trac off" warning lights came on at the same, but the car runs fine.

It is possibly either the "Oxygen Sensors" or "Gas Cap" didn't get tighten enough.

I would take it to an automobile arts place like Autozone they will do the diags usually for free and then you would and have the computer codes to help narrow down the problem.

OS Sensor will run you around $90-$135 just for the part.

It's ok to drive the car; it will not hurt the vehicle.

I do want to add want thing and that is you need to read the code to see what it is. Right, it could be as simple as an O2 sensor (perhaps code ..041) or more complicated (code P0446), a gas cap and/or a charcoal canister replacement.

UPDATE: I had a code P0446. First replaced the gas cap, $30 from Lexus dealer, but did not help. Replaced charcoal/vapor canister ($350 from Toyota dealer using part number written on the canister). Bingo, both CEL AND Trac off went away!. However, replacing the canister took me about 3 hrs as it's located near the gas tank and above the rear axle--what a pain.

Some differences can affect how the belt should be installed, regarding where all pulleys are located in each different model, respectively. A "Chilton" or "Haynes" automotive manual can help you to find out your engine type, if you are not sure. If so, repost, and ask again.

1st, Remove the rain Plastics. Remobe the screws from the door panel. (There are 2 under the "Close Handle). After all are out,, lift up the door. 2. Tale off the 2 window screws. 3. Remove the 3 brads from the bottom of the Window Regulstor. (Use a drill to do this, and be careful NOT to damage or "push in) the pannel. Remove the outside brad braces. 4. Remove the Window. 5. Replace the Window Regilator. (About $75.00 From any Ford Dealer. To Install, Follow instructions in reverse. Use Bolts and screws for the replacement brads, making sure they are the same length. R-12 is so very expensive, I suggest you convert this vehicle to use R-134a.

this is directly from the 2002 grand am owners manual. "How heavy can a tailer safely be? It should never weigh more than 1000 lbs.(454 kg). But even that can be too heavy. It depends on how you plan to use your rig. For example, speed, altitude, road grades, outside temp and how much your vehiclre is used to pull a trailer are all imnportant. And any special equipment that you have on your vehicle." what i got from all that lingo from gm is max weight is 1000 lbs. i would not go over 1000 lbs. just remember that the grand am gt does not produce very much touque at low speed and rpm. the engine in the grand am gt is a mid range engine. if you are gonna tow in a area with a lot of upward grades your tranny is gonna work overtime. (make sure you have good clean oil, good clean coolant, tranny serviced- next to the engine it's gonna do most of the work.) good luck and i hoped this helped. vince

first read up on it then read the gauge... theres a cool new kit called "A/C recharging for dummies" at the parts store.. also Everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available, for FREE, in the reference section(make copies of the correct sections) read up and fix it like a PRO! :) good luck-Dave

Check for fuel and spark - noting the age of the vehicle it may be the timing chain has "jumped"

Check the 2001 Grand Ams crank shaft position sensor first. If the sensor is bad then the engine will not get fire or start.

The firing order for a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am depends on the engine size. The 2.2L firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2. The firing order for the 3.4L is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

to get the oil filter out you need to remove the black cover in front of the cross member by the two wing bolts and then pull the oil filter through there.

The exhaust on the car will blueish grey smoke also as you check the oil regularly watch the levels. or a vast amount of oil dripping out of gasket sites (valve cover,timing cover,oil pan.etc... etc... etc...

there is a check plug underneath your car on the tranny pan use an 11mm socket to check it

you losten the belt with the tensioner pulley. it is located below and to the rear of the alternator. it will take a 13mm box end wrench and I also use a 17mm box end for leverage. you will pull the wrench toward the rear of the car and slide the belt off of the alternator.

You cannot actually turn off the lights while the car is driving or in any gear but park. If you would want to turn the lights off while you are parked for some reason, put the car in park, turn off the car completely, pull the emergency brake up, then restart the car. This overrides the headlights and they will stay off while the car is running-however, as soon as you release the emergency brake- the headlights turn back on.

I assume you're talking about the air conditioning?? If so, it's on the small, black tank, attached to the passenger side wheel well inside the engine compartment. It should be covered by a small, black screw-off cap.

You don't. It's built into the reservoir. If it turns your low coolant light on when your coolant is not low remove the reservoir and clean it out with dish soap and water. The float sometimes gets dirty and sticks. When it's working you can hear it click when you shake the reservoir up and down

Most often hard shifting can be fixed partially by a transmission flush and change of automatic transmission filter. Also, i have had luck with using a large magnet on the bottom of the transmission pan before the flush because parts of the clutches that are loose will not be filtered by a clogged filter. Also, on my grand am, the transmission fluid was dangerously low when i went to change it when first buying the car- this could also be a possible problem.
