Where is the heater core located in a 1994 Mazda Protege?
The core is behind the radio and it is tough to remove. You will need to take off the dash, instrument panel and glove box. The steering wheel needs to drop, and the heater controls need to come off (they are unbelievably hard to get back on.)
Unless you have all the tools, a manual, and a circuit diagram, and record every bolt, screw and plug meticulously, don't do it yourself. Take it to the guys who do it for a living and can do it safely, properly and quickly. If you do it yourself and miss even one plug, you'll need to take the dash apart again. It took me 1.5 hours to get the dash off and six hours to replace the core and reassemble. This was the first time I had done a core replacement and I don't recommend doing it yourself unless you know what you are doing.

You can try a temporary fix by applying an epoxy to cover the crack. (I assume that is problem - it is cracked. Common problem for the Protege) However, that is not a good fix, as far as I know. It might be an improvment for awhile, but that's all. Ask a good auto parts store for high temp epoxy. Another method is to braise with silver or some other type rod. You can look up "how to braise cast iron" on Harris website or something. There are charts saying the type rod to use. To weld it this way takes skill and tools and REMOVING THE OFFENDING PART. Once you have the manifold off the car, you light as well replace it with a new one. Repacement is probably cheaper than the cost of theBTU's required to braise it properly.

It would help to know the engine that is in this particular car. If nothing else, the trim level might help. There is not enough information with this question for it to be answered correctly. Also, the timing belt has nothing to do with interference, the clearance between a fully open valve and a fully compressed piston determine interference. The belt only turns the camshafts.
Checking the Gates Timing belt guidelines - this car does not have an interference engine no matter what engine size it is whether it's the 1.5, 1.6, or the 1.8L. The 01-03 2.0l do have an interference engine- Dale in Southern Idaho - mobile mechanic.

find the fan belt, make sure the car is OFF, then take a regular bar of soap and rub it on the underside of fan belt. That will stop it from squealing. Worked for me!

What is the hold button for on your shift lever of your automatic 1992 Mazda protege lx?
Its a old button for a certain gear. Say you are in overdrive but going up a hill and you need to down shift, hit that button and the car will automatically downshift until you release that button. The same thing applys as when going down a hill, you will want to keep the car at a lower gear so not as to use the brakes as much. It will slow you down automatically.
sounds like a small block chevy...the best fix is to replace the seals. they make tools that allow you to pump air into a cylinder so you can repalce the valve seal without removing the head.

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that we towed 5000 miles across the country (4 wheels down, tow-bar, etc) last summer behind our motorhome and another thousand or more so far this year. Ours is 5-speed, and I doubt you could tow the automatic this way.

1.Make sure the engine is off and the dome light switch on the light globe is set to off and all lights are off.
2.Remove the lighting globe.
3.Press the two clamps toward the roof of the car until the defected dome light comes out.
4. Once it comes out, place the new dome light in the in then pull the two clips together with your fingers like this; [_____]
5. Place the lighting globe back on and make sure it's securely locked in.
6. Switch the dome light switch to door and your good to go.

Romove the upper water heater (coolant) hose. Pull two bolts out. Becarefull not to lose the nuts they tend to fall. You can use high heat sealant to replace gasket (gold tube). Let sealant sit for 10 minutes or until it gets a skin on it, and reassemble. Replace thermostat. DO NOT remove the upper radiator hose. Follow the bottom radiator hose ( if you are standing in front of the car facing the windshield it's on the bottom left of radiator ), there are two bolts you need to remove. The thermostat sits in there. It should take about 10 minutes total to remove the old and replace with a new one. I followed the above information and ended up removing way too many pieces to name to get the housing at the end of that hose open.

Also these engines DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshaft) is INTERFERENCE motor, which means when that belt skips few teeth or breaks, kiss your valves goodbye. You'll need a new cylinder head, big $$$.
Might as well do your water pump at the same time and serpentine belt.
