Where is the egr valve on a 92 Pontiac Lemans 1.6 ltr?
The EGR valve is hidden under the air filter box. It lies on top of the intake manifold, just in front of the throttle body. It will have a vacuum line leading to the T.B. as well. Test it by sucking on it's hose and feeling under the round dome. The valve should move, and not return until you let air back in.

How do you turn off the check engine light on a Mazda Protege?
As with most computers you may reset it by disconnecting the battery for a time and for good measure ground the positive termnial wire against the chassi. Of course if you still have a problem the light will come one again as soon as the computer detects a fault.

Engine turns over but the car won't start what should i do?
1) Floor the accelerator while you try to start it. (make sure the car is in park if it's an auto or neutral if it's a stick)
2) Check to see if you have spark. If you do, proceed to #5.
3) Pull off your distributor cap and make sure the rotor is secure.
4) "Tap" your starter.
5) Check to see if you have fuel pressure. (taking off the top line of your fuel filter and having someone turn the key to "on". this should cause fuel to flow so make sure you have an empty can or cup to catch the fuel in)
How do you reset the computer on a Mazda MVP?
disconnect negative battery terminal depress brake petal fully for 30-45 seconds reconnect negative battery terminal
Mine had the same problem. Mine ended up overheating. Could be 1. Water pump gone bad. 2. slow leak from the valve cover gasket leaking oil onto your Alternator belt. That leak is caused by the bolts on top vibrating until they get loose. I am checking my thermostat just incase, but the screeching stopped when it overheated, so I am pretty sure it is the bearings in the water pump, failed at 50,000 miles. Get it replaced before the motor gets damaged/warped/cracked and you have to junk it.
Where is fuel filter on 2002 Mazda Protege?
The only fuel filter in a 2002 Protege is in the fuel pump, which is in the gas tank. The filter is designed to last the life of the pump.

No owners manual how do you set the clock in a 2004 cavalier?

Why is a 1994 Mazda Protege noisy at idle speed?
"Noisy" because the engine is vibrating more than normal? Low idle will cause the engine to shake. Low idle can be caused by - Dirty/clogged/sticking EGR valve - Vacuum leak or air intake leak - Dirty MAF sensor
Is th 1995 Mazda Protege an OBD-II?
Look for the OBD II connector under the driver's side dash. It was required 1996 and up but some models had the connector before it was necessary.
Answer96 and upAccording to the Chilton's manual, the 1995 Protege and Millenia are OBD-II, also 1994-1995 Mazda 626 with ATX transmissions are OBD-II, and then all models 96 and up...
I have a 95 buick with OBD II, however it requires a different plug to work with a scanner. If you take the car to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts to have them scan it and it won't scan it could be the same reason mine won't. In 95 they were transitioning to the (then new) OBD II system, and some of the first OBD II harnesses only had 5 pins rather than the full (I believe 10 pins) found on the 96 and later OBD II harnesses.
If the timing belt broke in a 2000 Mazda Protege 1.8 will the car be damaged?
A 2000 Mazda Protege with 1.8 DOHC engine appears to be a "free-running" engine, meaning there is no valve/piston interference in case the timing belt broke. There is enough clearance between the valve and piston, even if the cam stops (i.e. the timing belt breaks) with the valve fully open. Therefore, the car will not be damaged if the timing belt broke.
Why is your alternator belt continuing to break and snap on your 97 Mazda Protege?
I am having the same problem with a 99 Protege. I have changed the alternator and aligned/cleaned the pulleys and the problem persists.
I replaced the alternator, on my 1997 Mazda Protege, seven times before someone figured out why the serpentine belt kept breaking. It was the belt tensioner! It had to be removed and rebuilt. Now it is working like a charm!! And I havn't had to replace the alternator in over 3 months!!!!How do you replace the power steering belt on a 2003 Mazda Protege?
On 1.6L, it is easiest to do it from under neath. all you need is 14mm socket and a ratchet to turn it. If you are underneath car looking up towards the power steering pump you should be ably to see the tensioner bolt on it. Loosen the nut that clamps the tensioner slider and the power steering pump pivot bolt that is to the left of it. No need to remove these, just loosen them off. Turn the power steering bolt counter-clockwise until there is about a 15mm gap between the bolt head and the tensioner bracket that it normally pushes on. You will need to pull down on the power steering pump until the tensioner belt contacts the tensioner again. There should be enough slack to remove the belt. if not turn the tensioner bolt out further and pull down more. Do not remove the tensioner bolt! It will be difficult to reinstall and there is just no reason to. Install the new belt, and tighten the tensioner by turning it clockwise. Tighten until there is approx. 5-10mm of deflection on the longest span. Do not over tension. Now tighten the tensioner clamp nut and pivot bolt. Start the car. Holding the accelerator at part throttle, turn on the a/c (if you have it,) and turn the steering briskly from lock to lock. If no squeaking is heard and the steering is smooth then you are done. If it's squeaking and/or shuddering, then you need more tension. Follow the same procedure as for installation except the belt removal part. Good luck
Among other reasons, a pulley or a belt might be broken/damaged.
Where are Mazda Proteges manufactured?
"All US/Canada Protegé's and some Mazda3's to date are built at the Hiroshima plant at Ujina, Hiroshima, Japan.
Protegé 5's and some Mazda3s are built at the Hofu 1 plant near Yamaguchi, Japan.
If people tell you the Protegé is built in the US, they are wrong.
Only the old Ford Escorts and Mercury Tracers (which were BG based) were built in Michigan and Mexico."

How do you replace brake pads on a 1999 Mazda Protege?
Front Disc: 1) Jack up car and take off the wheel. 2) Remove the 2 slider bolts that mount the caliper to the bracket. 3) Carefully slide that caliper back, the brake pads should come with it. Ensure any shims that are insatlled are replaced. 4) Have someone hold the caliper or hang it on the strut using a wire (coat hanger), this is to ensure it is not dropped and the brake line is not damaged. 5) Back up the caliper cylinder(slave cylinder) using a 4 or 6" c-clamp. Just gently push it into the caliper. A good way to do this is to use the old brake pad for the clamp to push on. 6). Once the cylinder is pushed into the caliper there is now enough room to install the new pads (and shims if needed) and slide the caliper back on. 7) reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and torque to 29-36 ft-lbs. 8) reperform on the other side. Rear drums: Can be much more difficult and i would recommend buying a manual. You will also need a rebuild kit that has springs and grease. Also the front brake discs are easily replaceable if you remove the caliper mounting bracket and there are usually inexpensive ~$20-30 each. Or a parts store will usually refinish (turn) them for $5-10. If the brakes never were shaking at a minimum take 120 grit sandpaper and make circular marks on the discs to remove any brake glaze. You should also buy a can of brake cleaner to spray the pads and discs when you are all done.

Change the coils they should be two black blocks on top of the engine..the coils could have gone bad.
