How many times have Muslims ruled the world?

Answer 1

At least once. During their ruling they spread peace, tolerance, civilization, and science development and maintained human rights with no racism or discrimination.

Answer 2

No religion has ever been strong enough to rule over the entire world. (Especially when you consider that "Old Worlders" and "New Worlders" did not even know about each other before 1492 in any meaningful way.) Islam never had control over the entire planet even if it had very strong control over certain regions of the world.

Also the claim that Islam maintained a society with "human rights" is laughable when this is put to the Dhimmi to discuss. While Islamic Society was better for Dhimmi than minorities in other contemporaneous societies, there was systemic inequality, lack of justice, and secondary status. This continues across the Islamic World.

Should nuclear weapons be totally banned?

Answer 1

This is an extremely difficult question to answer, from any number of positions (practical, political, moral, military, and even philosophical).

To determine a plausible framework for discussing this question, we first must look at what has come before: that is, when looking at whether to ban nukes, we should see what other weapons are banned, and why, then try to see if nuclear weapons have some analogous reasoning applicable to them.

The Hague Conventions, several of the Geneva Conventions, Ottawa Treaty (Landmines), and Convention on Cluster Bombs have generally banned several types of weapons right now (specifically, we're talking about weapons whose USE has been banned): explosive bullets, chemical weapons, biological weapons, toxin weapons, weapons causing fragments no detectable by X-Rays, blinding lasers, certain incendiary weapons, "stupid" anti-personnel landmines, and small-scale cluster weapons.

Looking at what we have banned so far, there seems to be several characteristics which lead to a weapon's banning. All of the weapons above have at least one of the following characteristics (and, many have more than one):

  • Infliction of excessively painful wounds, beyond that necessary for incapacitation.
  • The military utility is significantly less than the threat to nearby civilians
  • Their effect is to cause permanent, rather than temporary, injury.
  • Use causes indiscriminate damage, death, or injury not reasonably controllable or targetable by the weapon's user
  • Injury to civilian populations is likely to occur long after their military use

In addition, and unstated, but nonetheless very important aspect of banning a weapon is that other more "humane" weapons are available to perform a similar (though not identical) function. For example: regular solid bullets instead of explosive ones, mass bombing or artillery instead of chemical or biological weapons, and "smart" (e.g. time deactivated, or command-detonated only) landmines rather than "stupid" ones. That is, humanity seems to be OK with banning weapons which are generally not unique in their utility.

Looking at the above criteria, we can see that nuclear weapons certainly have the following characteristics which are similar to certain banned weapons:

  • Indiscriminate effects (inability of the user to reasonably restrict effects to military targets when civilian ones are in the vicinity) - compare to chemical or toxin weapons
  • After effects of the nuke's use linger for a substantial time and are difficult to neutralize - compare to biological weapons or landmines
  • Injuries are commonly permanent in nature, and many are disfiguring or severely painful - compare to incendiary or chemical weapons

However, the first case above also applies to very-large-scale conventional weapons, and is more a matter of size than anything else (which, nonetheless, is important to consider). The second case is also signficantly less important than originally thought - residual radiation left by nuclear weapons is very short-term, and what does remain as long-term radiation has been shown to be much less harmful than expected (indeed, many experts now discount any real long-term impact of radiation in the immediate vicinity). However, fallout is still a huge problem, so while long-term effects nearby the nuclear explosion are unlikely to be noticeable around the detonation zone, fallout contamination can very likely impact a huge area outside the target zone.

Overall, there does seem to be a real good argument for the banning of nuclear weapons, based on historical precedents. However, there is a major, practical reason they aren't right now: they are currently the weapon of last resort, one which no other weapon can take the place of.

That is, nuclear weapons provide a failsafe, and a check on those acting in bad faith with respect to abiding by weapons ban. Should nuclear weapons themselves be banned, there will be very significant pressure on nations to secretly "cheat" and eventually to use banned weapons, particularly other weapons of mass destruction. To put it more clearly, if nuclear weapons are banned, then there is a very big advantage to be had by one nation into secretly creating chemical, biological, toxin, or even nuclear weapons, and then use them, as the military advantage of being the ONLY user of such a weapon far outweighs any sanction other nations may impose.

Until some mechanism can be developed to remove the cheating incentive, the utility of nuclear weapons as a weapon of last resort will remain, and indeed, be sorely needed.

Sadly, for now, I'd say that nuclear weapons cannot be banned.

Answer 2

All weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, chemical, biological, ... etc) should be banned and eliminated completely. All faiths and religions ban mass destruction weapons. How do you allow a military force to use a weapon of mass destruction that kills children, women, old people, and animals that have no choice and never participated in a war? How do you allow use of weapons of mass destruction that destroys in moments hundreds and thousands of homes, plants, factories, and institutions? There is no logic; in our civilized world; in using weapons of mass destruction in any war.

Per human rights and peace arguments, all weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons should be banned and eliminated.

Will there be 4 years of peace before the end of time in the Bible?

Assuming this is in regard to Bible prophecies regarding the "time of the end" of God's plan of Salvation for mankind and the restoration of the Kingdom of God to earth... and not the literal "cessation of the end of the measurment of time" in the universe; which would be answered along a whole other mind set -- let's pursue the "time of the end" prophecies.

The "time of the end" refers to the conclusion of the "temporary period of time" that God has allotted to mankind for His plan to allow man to experience his first taste of life under the heavy hand and oppression of Satan the Devil and his demons, to learn the terrifying depths of sin, while calling some men out of its depths to overcome and train to fill the Government offices that these rebellious angels abandoned on earth in the beginning before man was made.

These "rebellious angels" were cast down and restrained on the earth, following their rebellion, before man was made [see Rev.12:7-9]; imprisoned here until the Last Great Day, Judgment Day [Jude 1:6 & II Peter 2:4] - the "Time of the End" of God's plan, to stand trial for their sins.

God is calling His "elect" out of the world during this allotted time, to rule with Christ for a thousand years to teach the rest of the nations on earth God's way of Love and Concern for others. The "time of the end" of this plan will culminate with "Judgment Day" -- called in God's plan: the "Last Great Day."

"The Great Day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the Day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That Day is a Day of Wrath, a Day of trouble and distress, a Day of wasteness and desolation, a Day of darkness and gloominess, a Day of clouds and thick darkness, a Day of the trumpet [the signal to assemble for war] and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers." (Zeph.1:14-16 KJV)

According to the prophetic passage above... it's seriously doubtful that PEACE will preside over the earth for ANY amount of time prior to Jesus' return in the Day of His Wrath. It makes sense that IF PEACE RULED the earth, then He wouldn't have to return in wrath, doesn't it?

Peace has NEVER truly been a worldwide phenomenon since man first sinned and the world's firstborn brother killed his younger brother.

Men like to use the word "peace" to appease the masses with messages of imagined calm. But even in the midst of war, men like to, paradoxically, send armed military forces into war zones, calling them "peacekeepers." This, too, is an illusion among deceived men [by Satan] who don't seem to realize that you can't KEEP peace until you first MAKE peace.

No... Bible prophecy doesn't foretell of any Peace on the earth before the "time of the end" of God's plan -- at least by the hands of man. It tells us that men will TALK of peace... and DECLARE peace -- but this, too, will be the lies and deception of the god whom man has always obeyed and worshiped.

"They offer superficial treatments for My people's mortal wound. They give ASSURANCES OF PEACE when ALL IS WAR. " (Jer.6:14 NLT New Living Translation)

[KJV]: "...saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace."

The only "peace" that will come at the hands of men at the "time of the end" will be the same old result as that throughout the history of this deceived, twisted world -- it will be AN ILLUSION!

"For you know quite well that the Day of the LORD will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, 'All is well; everything is PEACEFUL and SECURE,' then DISASTER WILL FALL UPON THEM as suddenly as a woman's birth pains begin when her child is about to be born. And there will be no escape. But you aren't in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won't be surprised when the Day of the LORD comes like a thief." (I Thess.5:2-4 NLT)

The main difference in the false declaration of peace NOW at the "time of the end" and all the other declarations of peace throughout the history of the world, is the reality that mankind now has the means by which to eliminate all life on planet earth -- and that there are many factions at work today who are perfectly willing to use them all to achieve their Satan-guided, twisted goals.

And Jesus assures us that if He doesn't cut the "time of the end" short and return to save the world -- that's exactly what will happen.

"For that will be a time of greater horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again. In fact, unless that time of CALAMITY [not PEACE] is shortened, THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE WILL BE DESTROYED. But it will be shortened for the sake of God's chosen ones." (Matt.24:21-22 NLT)

So, Bible prophecy speaks of man TALKING ABOUT PEACE... but that it will never occur at the hands of Satan-deceived man:

"They spend their time and energy spinning evil plans that end up in deadly actions. They cheat and shortchange everyone. Nothing they do is productive; all their activity is filled with sin.. Violence is their trademark. Their feet run to do evil, and they rush to commit murder. They think only about sinning [see Gen.6:5]. Wherever they go, misery and destruction follow them. THEY DO NO KNOW WHAT TRUE PEACE IS or what it means to be Just and Good. They continually do wrong, and those who follow them CANNOT EXPERIENCE A MOMENT's PEACE." (Isa.59:5-8 NLT)

Before Jesus Christ returns... there will be NO PEACE on earth! Only TALK of it.

Jesus Christ is coming back to prevent man from KILLING HIMSELF and all life on earth. He's coming back MAKING WAR... to BRING PEACE TO THE EARTH for a thousand years.

Jesus is coming back to bring Peace to the world. And He's going to do it by MAKING WAR!

"...For He Judges Fairly and THEN HE GOES TO WAR." (Rev.19:11 NLT)

"The ARMIES of heaven, dressed in pure white linen, followed Him on white horses. From His mouth came a Sharp Sword, and with it HE STRUCK DOWN THE NATIONS. He ruled them with a rod of iron, and He trod the winepress of the fierce wrath of Almighty God." (verses 14-15)

"In THAT DAY OF PEACE, battle gear will no longer be issued. Never again will uniforms be bloodstained by war. All such equipment will be burned... the Government will rest on His shoulders. These will be His titles: ...PRINCE OF PEACE. His ever expanding, PEACEFUL GOVERNMENTwill never end. He will rule forever with Fairness and Justice from the throne of His ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will guarantee this!" (Isa.9:5-7 NLT)

There are only two kinds of Peace prophesied at the "time of the end." The illusive, deceptive, unending hopes and dreams of peace expressed by deceived men, living under the evil god of this world; and the actual ETERNAL PEACE that Jesus Christ is bringing with Him.

What did the peace of augsburg determine?

It was a political settlement between Catholics and Lutherans on the division of Christianity between the two faiths. An unhappy compromise it stated that the religion of a particular State would be dependent on the faith of the civil prince that was in control. Other faiths were not included and the possibility of conversion was not introduced.

Historians cite this as a great victory for Protestantism. As with all such agreements or treaties, compromise was involved.
