Changing power steering fluid lines in your vehicle should not affect alignment.

Basically.................price!!! It's safe to use Trans Fluid for Power Steering Fluid, they are both hydraulic oil/fluids.........but make sure to check your owners manual.

Where is the power steering resevoir on a 2005 pontiac grand prix?

In the power steering pump located on the front right side of the engine. It will have a pulley on it

As you are faceing the engine from the front of the car it is on the right hand side just in front of the alternator, and to th right of the windshield washer resivor.

The pump is on the back of the engine, hard to see and to get too. Stand by the passenger side of the car and look at the back of the engine and you will see it, just follow the path of the belt.

Make sure the reservoir is full of P/S fluid. Start the engine and using the line wrench, break the high-pressure line loose at the steering gear. If you are not sure which line is the high side, look at the power steering pump. The highest line that is held in by a flare nut is the high-pressure line. The lowest line is held in with a hose clamp and is the return line or low-pressure line. Run the engine and slowly open the high pressure fitting on the steering gear just until the fluid starts running out. Stop there and hold it open until nothing but fluid is coming out. Tighten the fitting. Now start the engine and turn the steering wheel as far to the right as you can and then turn it as far to the left as you can. Do this about 5 times. This should remove any air left in the system.

atpump one line should be a threaded male ferrule connection ( pressure outlet ) your pump should have a matching female threaded hole in it the other line is just aslip on type hose with clamp their should be a nipple on the pump this slips onto with clamp to secure it ( this is lo pressire or retun, suction for pump the other end connect to the rack and pinion steering unit ( usually on firewall behind engine connection points are usually on drivers side of rack (look through opening in fender well behind drivers side front wheel should be able to see them there access to them is a real bear but canbe reached (18 mm wrench) on my sons 94 top line on rack was return line bottom was pressure outlet . hope this helps

-It leaks, but replacing the shaft seal hasn't helped.

-It fails to produce sufficient pressure.

-The shaft is bent.

-It makes excessive noise as from a bad bearing.

-It has been used with contaminated power steering fluid.

It will cost you about $100 to replace a steering box in 2006 Impala.

I have a 1990 3.0 I don't know if it is the same engine and if it has the same layout as mine but I hope that it helps you. First take belt off a/c. Then take the serpentine belt off. Pull off alternator, a/c compressor and bracket. Take lines off power steering pump. Catch fluid in pan and discard at a place that takes it for disposal. Then take the " L " shape bracket off the back of the power steering pump. Take the two bolts off the front of it. Let it set for right now. Take the belt tensioners for the serpentine belt and the a/c off. Next support the engine with a jack. Now take all the bolts out for the motor mount going into the engine. Then take the two bolts out on the frame rail. Pull on the motor mount towards the frame rail. Move to the side. If you can pull the pulley off the power steering pump where it is setting. You can pull the pump up through the top. If not (like I couldn't) take the pump and turn it so the dipstick hole is pointing down and kind of like behind the crankshaft pulley and the pulley for the pump is in front of it. Push it down to wedge it in place. Then grab the motor and pull it to the front of the car. Pull hard. the pump should fall out. Take pulley off and anything that as to go on the new pump. But leave the pulley off. Put the pump in from the top side. Then put the pulley on the pump. Then reinstall everything. That is how I remove and install my pump.

Its on the firewall side of the engine, passenger side. Should be under the tower strut brace about 6-8 inches.

Could be your steering fluid is low? My 1982 GMC pickup truck makes a noise when my steering wheel fluid gets low.

Driver side engine compartment. Should say power steering on the cap. just read the level on the stick and add accordingly.

ATF is for an automatic transmission. Automatic Transmission Fluid. If you're talking about putting power steering fluid in the transmission, I'd say no you can't. If for some reason this automobile requires ATF in the power steering equipment, I'd also say you can't use power steering fluid. They're quite different in terms of the additives. For the 99 Legacy the manual refers to using Dextron II, III or other. That's GM stuff. You can't use Ford ATF. I would check your manual which will tell you what you can use. Power Steering Fluid and ATF are generally one in the same. The additive issue probably is more important for the Tranny than the Pwr Steering pump. Some people mix the ATF up with brake fluid which will cause MAJOR problems.

This job is best done by a professional, but if you are up for the challenge it really isn't that bad of a job. Start by removing the serpentine belt, use a serpentine belt tensioner tool to release the pressure on the belt and remove from the vehicle. under the vehicle remove the large hose to the pump from the fluid reservoir to drain the fluid. next a line wrench crows foot tool on a three foot 3/8 drive extension works well for removing the pressure line from the pump (this takes some time). next remove the 3 pump mounting bolts with the same 3ft. 3/8 extension and a 10mm swivel head socket. The best access to the bolts is with left front tire removed and look above and below the frame rail for best access to the bolts. Sometimes moving the plastic intermediate shaft knuckle shield at the steering gear up the intermediate shaft helps. there will be one bolt on top and two on the bottom of the pump. Sometimes there is a 4th mounting bolt (top front of pump) and cannot be removed until the pressure hose is removed. pump should now be able to be removed from vehicle. Now with pump lightly clamped in a shop vise the pulley is removed with a power steering pulley remover tool kit. The pulley is tightly pressed on and the use of an appropriate tool kit is necessary (kits are available from most major tool dealers) universal kits provide the tools for installing the pulley back on to the new pump. Once the pulley is pressed back on to the new pump exact reverse of the removal process is used to reinstall the pump. refill the fluid reservoir with mercon 5 automatic transmission fluid. if fluid is aerated after fluid level is adjusted to proper level the air can be removed with a vacuum applied to the reservoir at the fill cap. apply 15 in. hg of vacuum and turn steering wheel from lock to lock ten times without holding steering wheel at either lock position for more than a second to avoid damage to new pump. repeat process until air is drawn from system. (Usually 1-2 times)

You can if you want to, but I don't think it is the best choice to do.

You can tell that the rack in opinion steering is bad when there is excessive play in the steering will. You might also feel a shimmy in the steering wheel.

Begin by removing the power steering pump belt. Remove the power steering pump hoses. Remove the power steering pump retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new power steering pump.

open the power-steering reservoir cap. generally it says "power-steering fluid" ... first open up the hood... and make sure you have the right type of fluid.

ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid.
