On a 2003 Toyota Echo, the crankshaft position sensor is located on the engine block, near the bottom, typically on the driver's side. How do you get better fuel economy from your 2001 Toyota Echo which gets 38 mpg now?
really there is not much to do except upkeep on the car in its best condition, but in theory people have added a water vapor system to their cars and increased by 15-30% but on the down side you are looking at about $1,000 or better to have one installed. I changed to synthetic oil, Shell Rotella T Synthetic 10W40. My mileage increased from the mid 30s to around 40-41. You can find it at Wal-Mart. I change it once a year or 6000 miles. Just use a really good oil filter. Also keep your tires inflated to the 32psi, check them at least once a month.
A few inexpensive and easy things that you can also do to improve fuel economy are:
# Change the air filter every 12000 miles (or more frequently if you live in a very dusty / smoggy environment).
# Check the air pressure in your tires, and keep them inflated as recommended by the previous author. # Keep up the preventive maintenance (change spark plugs, adjust the valve clearance, rotate tires, replace the O2 sensor (if bad)), and you'll keep up the fuel economy. # Make sure that you're using the correct viscosity of oil. The recommended weight of oil you should be using is 5W-30 SAE. Using the incorrect viscosity that is not recommended (i.e. oil that is a heavier weight) will reduce fuel economy by 2 - 3%.
# Don't drive like a bat out of hell or go hauling ten bags of concrete mix at every opportunity you get. Folks tend to forget that this is after all a subcompact car, not a Lamborghini or a dump truck.

How do you tighten the Hood latch cable in a 2001 Toyota Echo it barely pops the hood?
Actually it should only pop the hood a little bit, the interior latch release is an anti theft device designed to keep people out of your engine compartment. The second latch release inside the grille is meant to completely open the hood, the double latch system also saves you from having the hood hit the windshield if the latch fails while driving, or you forget to latch it completely.
Wire , lots and lots of wiring , but you need to be more specific , a Echo uses 4 coils , 1 for each cylinder , and being a mechanic myself at a Toyota dealership , this is rare.
Make sure your not having condensation problems , ex water around the coils , as this will cause arcing and it will look like the coil is not delivering its spark.

Why would the engine be turning over but the car Toyota Echo not start It's a 2000?
Possibilities include bad spark plugs (doubtful), bad spark plug wires, clogged fuel filter or fuel line or fuel injector, bad fuel pump, bad fuel injector, bad gas, clogged exhaust, clogged air filter (doubtful). I think clogged fuel injectors or dead fuel pump may be most likely but who knows, you have to either take it to a pro for diagnosis, or do the diagnosis yourself. One very simple thing you can try is starting the car with the accelerator pedal pushed firmly ALL THE WAY DOWN to the floor. This can clear a clogged fuel line or injector, you have nothing to lose so give it a try.
Where is the downstream O2 sensor located for Toyota Echo 2000?
Right after the catalytic converter, only about a foot away from the upstream O2 sensor. If you must replace either O2 sensor, I strongly recommend using only genuine Denso sensors, you can get a compatible (solder in) on for as little as $35 (see Amazon for example). Other brands do not meet Toyota's extra sensitive requirements. For the downsteam O2 sensor, you can also install a spark non-fouler ahead of the O2 sensor to avoid "catalytic convert efficiency below threshold" error code that is quite common on this car when it has high miles.
Very likely it's the accellerator pump. It's inside the carburater and you'll probably need to rebuild the carburater to solve the problem. It COULD be something else, but not likely.
How do you replace the fuel injectors on 2003 Toyota Echo?
requires the removal of the top engine cover, the spark plug coil "all 4" may need the removal of the air filter housing to have better view and access ALL WAYS COVER THE THROTTLE PENNING use a rag if not have a plastic cap on hand ; **the wire harnes can be muve a side after disconectin the battery first and all the conectors around the injectors AVOID STRETCHING BAY FORCE**
It will need to remove the valve cover (it's better to replace the gasket) if no oil licks are present Previously; It is possible to reused de same seal while this does not present any fracture, any hardness particularly at the exhaust/fire wall side are where the seal's settles in the V.C.G. You will need some rags and brake cleaner to wipe out any oil in the gasket and in the cover IT IS preferable to have the seal & the surface of the head where the seal's settle to be clean and dry.. to reinstall you can use Silicone by applying just a thin coat in both side of the seal and a small amount in the junction areas----- for reinstallation just reverse the process----- Ones valve cover out cover the opening with a clean towel and procced in removing a bolt at the rear right of the engine(where the engine connect to the transmission) fallow the fuel line where connect to a metal pipe begins to bent and usually the connection is cover with plastic bracket you can slide it out (spraying WD-40 first) in Down worth direction ones out just push the sides (usually Square in Gray color)and pull to disconnect place a rag for the fuel that will spill (remove the gas cap & reinstall before restarting engine) using a 12mm socket remove the 2bolts that hold dawn the fuel rail *do not miss the two spacers sitting between rail & head* before removing move the injector side by side to loosen up the injectors then carfuly star pulling the rail ones out cover the hole's to be safe noting fell IN now replace the injector if possible all the seals in the rest if only raplace one injector; to reinstall use caution do not force the injector in the rail (use WD-40 just little be) and to place them in the head place first the spacers fallow by the injection rail all injectors must fit in smooth and with the connector pointing up-worth all in the same high NOW A BAD TIP try not to STAR the engine just turn the ignition on Position II;; secure the injectors (the 2bolts 12mm) ;; connect the fuel line at the other end (connect it and pull it just little to be sure is secure place a rag just in case);; done this connect the battery terminal for 10sec. and disconnect do this three times if no fuel leak-out you are good to go REINSTALL everything in revers-order BUT IF IS any leak appears during the connection of the battery IMMEDIATE disconnect the battery(no need to remove the key) clean the spill of gas and fix the lick reinstall and try the test again if all good NO leak is seen any more you are done with this problem and with-out removing everything to repair the leak of fuel WELL AS I SET reinstall all the components in the back order in witch they were remove and at the very end connect the battery and tight it this time ( if acid is present cleaned with bakingSoda and water use extra water to rains-off all of it) I will post some pic. latter and some diagrams of the repair because just by coincidence I'm going to do a similar job tomorrow.. hope this my help you thank you... ...
Where are the spark plugs on a Toyota Echo 2002?
The spark plugs are underneath that cover on top of the engine (on mine the cover says VVTi). Just take that cover off, and then you will see the four ignition coils. Take off the four ignition coils (with igniters), and you will see the four relatively long holes underneath, and the spark plugs are at the bottom of those holes. You will need a good spark plug socket (preferably a thin wall socket) and a 6" or 12" extension.
