Going through the same thing on a 89. Pull the front of the dash off above the steering column. There are 4 screws holing in the gage cluster. Undo them and pull forward, then disconnect the cable from the gage cluster. Note: the (speedo) cable is just clipped to the instrument panel a good yank is all that is needed to remove the speedo cable.

Did you get the truck this way? Have the dash lights ever worked? There are too many different ways, for them not to work. Check your fuses first, bulbs second. Then I would go after the dimmer control switch. Check the wires going into and out from this switch for power. Don't forget about the other half of the power check! The ground(s). Usually it's something simple, if they worked, and then quit.

there is a small pin you can see through the plastic on the steering column in front of the ignition. you insert the key and push the pin to release the cylinder. you may need to remove wheel to get to it though.

if it was looked after well and all oil changes were done on time you could easy get 600k out of a 4cyl and more from a 6cyl. Toyota cars and trucks even more are work animals they do not like to die. 1.5 liter engine i have seen 449k and still working like new.

No other car can u take a chance on an older one like a Toyota. i love the design of some of the North American cars but they simply do not measure up when it comes to quality. statisticly speaking your chances are so much higher with a Toyota. I would never buy another NA car unless i know i can buy another one in 3 or 4 years and i don't mind loosing a huge chunk of change.

being very low on gas will allow the inlet to the fuel pump come out of the gas when going uphill. just add more gas and try to start it for a bit to get the gas going again

When you require full power from your engine, weak spots will show themselves. Ignition must perform at maximum voltage, any carbon build up in the dist cap or rotor, Age cracked plug wires or old spark plugs and the ignition system cannot answer the call. Any of these type of issues feels like something is turning off and on very quickly not allowing the engine to increase in RPM.

Same holds true for fuel delivery. Being low on fuel just means your low on fuel. The pickup tube or what ever vehicle specific application is used is always mounted or access's the lowest point of the fuel tank. Some have filters built in to the pump and some use in-line filters. You usually are unaware of a fuel filter starting to plug up with dirt during normal driving. You might notice it on the highway if your trying to pass a slower car and yours does not have its normal punch. When pulling hills your asking for 100% performance from your fuel system and a partially plugged fuel filter cannot deliver 100%. Depending on how plugged up it is will determine the % of fuel delivered to the motor. This issue is smooth operating of the engine, no jerking or stumbling, just flat out does not make any power.

If your a sane driver, neither of these issues will affect you except when going up hills. If your an insane driver, you noticed these issues a long time before you started climbing hills.

New oil and a filter. Metric Socket and ratchet, and possibly a filter wrench if the filter was installed by an amateur who put it on too tight.

The fuel filter is on the passenger side of the engine under the intake

The 1984 Toyota 22R engine diagram can be obtained from most Toyota dealerships. The engine diagram can also be found at most auto-parts stores.

Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. The thermostat will be located behind the thermostat housing at engine end of upper radiator hose. Drain some coolant into a clean container. Remove upper radiator hose from thermostat housing. Remove the 3 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to engine. Remove thermostat housing. Remove thermostat. Be sure to install the new thermostat facing in the same direction as the old one was.

The 22r is carburated. The 22re is fuel injected. I believe that is the only difference.

You will have to remove the cover then the radio it self. I believe that the fender needs to come off to replace the base & mast on that model.(I could be mistaken) Then youll need to feed the wire back from the fender to the radio. Put it all back together, but make sure you get the fender in alignment so it doesn't catch the door. I hope i was some help, sorry if i was not.

Did you install O2 sensors?

A vehicle speed sensor (VSS), which is attached to the transmission, sends electrical pulses to a central location. From there the signal can be shared by whichever modules need it, speedometer, transmission, etc. In your case the destination is a little plastic box called a Digital Ratio Adapter Controller (DRAC).

the starter. if you know where it is you can hit it and see if this helps. you need to see if you have spark at the plugs if so check to see if you have fuel the starter only turns the engine

remove brake lines, remove bolts on the bracket that holds the cylinder to the brake booster then its free.

Some cases you will have to pry open the brake shoes.

The Toyota brake light fuse can be found in the fuse box. The exact location is dependent upon the year of the vehicle. The location of the fuse can be found on the inside cover of the fuse box.

You're best bet would be to go to Auto Zone or NAPA Auto Parts and get yourself a Haynes Manual for the vehicle. It will give you step by step instructions with very detailed photos of the entire procedure. IT will run you about $30 and it is well worth it!!
