Also make sure you are using the correct weight oil as outlined in your owner's manual. Use a good name brand filter such as Purolator, AC/Delco, Wix, etc. If the vehicle is a GM then use AC/Delco.

I took a strong magnet and placed it over the fuel gauge needle and rotated it counter clockwise and it went back into the correct position. Do this with the car key out with the engine off. Worked great for me.
