You can take it down to a shop and get it tested, but if you can not afford that, you can take the negative battery cable off of the battery while the vehicle is running. If the vehicle dies, you may have a bad alternator.

2003 onwards with duratec engine .what a pain to fit.

remove inner wheel arch

remove offside headlight ,might have to remove bumper a bit to assist

remove power steering pump

disconnect OS engine mount and raise engine

unbolt alt and wireing

remove alt through vacant headlight hole

The way to test an alternator is to take it out and take it to a parts store, most will test it for free. If you want to test your alternator yourself you will need a volt meter. Start the car and have someone rev the motor to 2000 rpms and put your volt meter across the battery terminals ( pos to pos, neg to neg ). You should read 13.5 to 14 volts. If the reading is higher the voltage regulator is bad. If the reading is lower your alternator is not charging the battery sufficiently.

In the home induction motors are used the most, because they are reliable and last a long time. They are the favoured type for refrigerators and washing machines.

The exception is portable appliances like vacuum cleaners and hand tools, which use commutator motors, basically the same as DC motors. These are preferred for their better power to weight ratio, even though they are noisy and require more maintenance such as replacement brushes and regular commutator cleaning.

Some types of electric clock use small synchronous motors that have permanent magnets built into the rotor. These motors produce only a couple of watts of mechanical power at the most.

If you have a voltmeter, measure the voltage across the battery, with the engine running.

It should measure around 13 -15 volt (alternator is ok) now turn the engine off it should measure 12volt. If you do not have a voltmeter ,let a friend watch your headlights at night with engine running,than turn engine off, your headlights should go dimmer with engine off.

It doesn't actually drain the battery, but without a working alternator to recharge the battery it will only discharge as the car is operated.

About the only thing I could think of that might cause this from changing the oil is this...an I'm not saying this is the answer, but merely a possibility. There are wires that dangle near the oil filter. I never really looked to see where these wires even go, but look near the filter and see if any of these wires were pinched by the oil filter. Maybe one is for the AC and/or maybe a pinch caused a short to the alternator. If you find wires pinched...don't move anything yet. Try to get pictures first.

This would depend on the size of the septic tank, your land layout and the distance from your property to the tank. Needless to say, installing a septic tank of any kind is quite costly.

The PCM (engine computer) is the regulator.

The alternator is mounted on an adjustment bracket. You can loosen the lower bolt a couple turns then loosen the upper bolt a couple turns and slide the alternator forward to get the old belt off and the new belt on.

Hold the alternator back with a big screwdriver or breaker bar to re-tension the new belt while you tighten the top bolt, then tighten the bottom bolt.

The voltage regulator for a 300e Mercedes is mounted on the rear of the alternator. The regulator is a replaceable item, independent from the alternator.

Make sure the retaining bolts are removed. Take a rubber mallet and tap on the alternator to free it from its position.

For a smaller vehicle or a half-dead battery, 200 amps might be sufficient. You should check your vehicle's manual and see what the 'cold start' amperage requirement is. Larger vehicles might require 300 or even 400 cold start amps.

If you are looking for a portable recharger, make sure it provides enough amps for your vehicles. Also, try not to expose the recharger to below-freezing or above 100-degree temperatures, keeping in mind that the inside of your vehicle may get much hotter in the summer time than the outside air temperature!

Absolutely. If a vehicle shares fluid between the transfer case and rear diff, the flow will be interrupted if the transfer case goes bad. A fluid pump failure would cause the flow of oil to be cut to both components thus causing a failure. Also, if there is not adequate vacum pressure for the pump system to work, oil cannot be pumped to the rear of the car causing a diff failure.
