Check the belts. The most common cause of squealing is a worn or loose belt on the front of the engine.

Wait 3 minutes until the security light goes off, the try it again. It should fire right up! It's a bit inconvenient, but if it's the worst problem you get from a 17 yr old car, be thankful for it. TAke it ot the dealer as they have check out charts. If it has the MAT security system installed, there is a "valet" switch (that may or may not be installed in your particular vehicle). On my 1992 LeSabre, it was a brown and gray wire pair plugged into the last 2 pins on the wiring block. Turn the ignition switch to "Run" - and connect the two wires (or turn on the valet switch if you can find it). If you don't have a valet switch, or there are no wires attached to the pins, you may have to get creative and use a wire to connect the two pins. This disables the starter interlock feature. The red LED should turn on and stay on solid, and your car should start. At least that's how my problem was solved. Best of luck! When my 1994 LaSabre had a problem recognizing the chip in the key (due to the contacts in the lock not working), I managed to bypass the system by locating the two wires (clear tube with two smaller wires in it exiting the steerin column, unlike any other wiring), cutting the cable, and soldering a resistor across the two wires that go to the hidden module thet in turn controlls the starter and sends a signal to the engine computer. Use a resistor of the same resistamce value as in one of the keys for the car (measure resistors with a digital meter). There are a dozen or so values used. You loose the extra protection of the chip, but the fix is low cost.

It should be behind the camshaft postition Sensor in the timing box attached to the end of the CamShaft. It allows the computer to know where the cam shaft is in order to properly inject fuel to the proper valve at the proper time.

Remove the positive cable from your 1997 Buick LeSabre battery. Remove the alternator belt. Remove the alternator wiring harness. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.

Yes! My Olds did have a wet rear floor I went to have it checked out to find out where the water was coming in from and there was a large hole under the car where water was coming in when I would drive. It costed me like $150 to get it repaired

Unfortunately, for most of us the solution is a bit uglier….. It seems that GM used that same particular body style quite extensively and not only for several different models but years as well. If you were fortunate enough to have found a simple hole in your floor board then Kuddo's to you, you're very fortunate. I too have had this problem along with several of my customers who also own a GM product within the parameters.

There is another problem and here's what I've found. I have a 1996 Olds LSS that I had bought used about 4 years ago. A year after we first owned it, the carpet in the rear foot wells (especially on the passenger side) had become noticeably damp. As winter progressed, the foot wells had started to collect a very annoying amount of standing water and would freeze. The car did not have to be driven (as this is a second car) in order to collect amounts of water, it only had to rain or snow melt!

I exhausted my imagination trying to correct this problem. Failed procedures like adding additional door seals and weather stripping, extensive caulking and butyl sealant; I re-directed the cab venting (body vents) and even used urethane sealant in the body seam over the passenger compartment. No matter what I tried seemed to be in vane and the water came in bad enough during a heavy storm one night that the airbag computer (located under the driver's seat) was eventually ruined. During the worst of this, the climatron system had not only failed, it was activating itself while no one was in the car making winter even more miserable knowing that the battery will probably be dead when it's time to go. I was seriously thinking about taking it to a junkyard when I called my brother one evening and he suggested that I bring the car over and we'll take it apart as much as we can and go from there.

The electrical problem was a simple bypass of a derelict hidden relay; we are both highly efficient electricians. The real task was finding out where the water was coming from. With the interior completely dismantled and the water extracted, we still could not find a point of entry. While I was looking diligently under the hood at every inch of seal and the numerous deflection shields and devices, I remembered a similar problem that I had with an Aerostar van that I used to have. The fresh air collector box in the cowl had a molded rubber hose that carried off water to let it drain down the firewall, when the hose became brittle and fell off, I didn't realize that it drained directly onto the cap for the power steering pump and the cap was vented. Needless to say, that was an expensive oversight!

So, where are the fresh air collector box drains on this Olds? Can't tell you myself. The fresh air boxes are over the firewall (over the foot area) and there are no visible drains or hoses to be found. What I did find was with the carpet, seating, thresholds, pillar casings and everything else out of the way, when we poured water into the air boxes the water ran straight down the body seam under the door thresholds. When enough water collected at the rear of the seam located at the rear of the passenger door, the water overflowed into the rear foot wells.

This may have not been the correct solution but it's working out so far. We drilled ¼" holes along the body seam (being careful not to damage fuel lines, brake lines and wiring) about every 10 inches. We also drilled holes in the floor pan in places that shouldn't promote collecting and more water. To date, the carpet may get damp after a downpour but there has not been standing water in the rear since. For what it's worth!

The normal battery voltage is about 12.6 volts with no load. Anything much less than this indicates the battery is not fully charged or is degraded. The key to starting an engine though is what does this value drop to when you start to crank the engine. If the battery is weak and the engine does not crank, the voltage could drop below 10 volts. If your car has a voltmeter in the instrument panel, note the value without cranking and then when you do crank to see how much it changes.

Two six volt dry cells will produce 12 volts, but wont start a car.

If you have to remove the rear seats No such thing as rear seats in a Miata. I own a 90 Miata as well and locked my keys in the trunk once - NIGHTMARE! under the trunk there are two small "punch-holes. it's not easy, but if you punch the one on the passenger side out, then someone with slender hands can reach up into the trunk and pull on the release wire that runs from the lock to the latch. (Hint: I had to cut out some carpeting after punching out the hole in the bottom of the trunk - I don't know if there is a better or easier way, but that's what worked for me.)

You would have to directly hook up the generator to your battery terminals.

You must remove the lowest connection from the motor mount to motor, then you can normally remove & replace belt.

Remove the nut and you may need a female torx to remove stud if it isn't seized to nut, after removing stud there is a shim between motor mount and engine that can be popped out.

If you have the automatic climate control system, I do not think there are actual "bulbs" in the display as it is all electronic. In my 1988 LeSabre I had to replace the entire control unit which I picked up at a salvage yard. Just a thought.

As per any vehicle, there are many factors that determine MPG. Wheel alignment, proper tune-up, tire inflation etc. Speed travelled is also a factor as well as engine size.

If you have any doubt in your confidence to approach the problem on your own, you should take your vehicle to a licensed repair shop for the flush, most oil change shops offer this service 3. Please disregard the "answer" about hose water. First, unless your homes pipes are completely screwed, the water from a garden hose should always be clear. Two, the real issue the man child who originally posted neglected to mention is that "clear hose water" typically has dissolved solids that are invisible such as calcium (the white scum on your shower head nozzle, that is, if you shower) and you do not want these minerals to form deposits in your cooling system. So.... Every guide says to - - USE DISTILLED WATER ONLY!- That and most flush kits feature complete directions. - this post helpfully edited by a concerned Internet citizen who is sick to death of low double digit IQs, opinionated 12 going on 40 year olds, and mentally incapable, inexcusable wastes of oxygen found online these days, spewing out useless opinion, drivel, and crap. Check the connection at the battery terminals. If either one works slightly loose you will think your car is ready for the scrapyard. Sometimes all the dash warning lights will flash on and off and your car will stall if a connection is loose.
