What would cause shuddering and loss of power from a dead stop with 93 Skylark 6cyl?

Not running on all cylinders Could be: Bad plugs Bad Wires Burned Valve Bad Piston Plugged catalytic converter Do compression test Possibly none of the above. No power under a load could be the torque converter. TCC solenoid wire is on a connector that is at the rear of the engine in the bell housing easily seen once the air filter is removed. With a voltmeter check the voltage on the white wire should be 12vdc. It is similar to trying to pull off from a light in 3rd gear with a standard tranny. It could be stuck in lock up mode (overdrive). Take it to a transmission man.

How hot is normal for a new alternator to get when idling for an hour after replacing it and the battery on a 1993 Buick Skylark?

They will run somewhat hot while charging; if you put your battery in discharged however, that makes the alternator work much harder. A alternators job is to maintain the charge in a battery not to charge a discharged battery.Keep a eye on it, it will probably be OK once the the battery is topped off.

How do you bleed the coolant system on a 1997 buick skylark?

you dont

The cooling system has lots of nooks and crannies that trap air, making it difficult to fill the system with coolant. The fill cap and neck are supposed to be at the high point of the system to help air bleed out, but often they aren't. And even if they are, you need all the natural help you can get. So jack up the front of the car, which gets the coolant fill neck as high as possible.

Check for air bleeds on the engine. Sometimes you'll see an obvious air bleed, such as a bolt-like item threaded into a hose. If there's an air bleed, open it. If there are several, open them all. If you have access to a factory service manual for your car, check it for a coolant fill procedure. Your owner's manual should list location of bleeder valves.

Pour in the required amount of coolant slowly until you see coolant oozing out of the open air bleeds. Then close the bleeds and top off the system with the remaining coolant.

If the system has a heater coolant valve, close it by moving the temperature control lever or knob to cold. With the engine running at fast idle and warmed up, have a helper move the lever or knob to hot while you listen at the coolant valve. If after the first rush of coolant you hear a continuous gurgling noise, there's still air in the coolant, and you need to open the bleed valves again. Be prepared to watch the coolant level in the reservoir over the next few weeks.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 1995 Buick Skylark?

It's a royal pain... The back plugs are the hardest to get at if you have a 6-cylinder engine. It's not impossible but you might have to rely on sense of feel. (Who designs these things anyway?)

Does the 1993 Buick Skylark come factory installed with R-12 or R-134A and if R-12 how hard is the conversion?

1992 was the first year for 134a. To be sure on your car there should be a sticker underneath the hood on the top/front of the engine compartment stating the freon type. Another easy way, check the A/C pressure connectors is in the engine compartment. R12 connectors are screw on connectors. R134a connectores have screw on caps, but the actual hose connectors under the caps are snap on (the cap screws into the center of the connectors, not the outside). Your local autoparts store will have R134a refill kits, look at the connector on the can. Autozone employees will go outside and look under your hood and tell you. If you are changing the compressor and dryer, then refilling the compressor with R134a oil and using R134a is easy, for a trained professional, and the seals will be fine. NOTE : It is illegal for anyone to purposefully vent R12 into the atmosphere. If the compressor hasn't failed and you are needing to simply add a small amount of R12 to get the system working again you should consider searching online for Freeze12 or other R12 substitutes and top it off with an organic replacement for R12, as you can not drain the R12 system without a refrigerant recovery system, which start at $500. You can not mix R12 and R134a. A complete system failure is guaranteed if you try.

What does the ets off light on dash mean?

Read your owner's manual. The ets is the traction control, and the light means it is turned off.

Enhanced traction control used the ABS system improve your vehicles traction by slowing an individual wheel down ( slipping wheel will spin ) thus applying more power to the one with better grip and the speed sensors monitor all four wheels to make sure that one is not spinning much faster than the rest.

Where is the fuel filter located and how do you replace it on a 1993 Buick Skylark?

Answering fuel filter question I have a 1990 and mine is in front of the gas tank, SHOULD BE SEEN NEAR BACK PASSENGER TIRE A ROUND CANISTER HOOKED TO FUEL LINES BUT WARNING!!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO FIND THE BLEEDER IF IT'S A FUEL INJECTED THERE WILL BE ALOT OF PRESSURE, ASK FOR HELP, SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, IT HELPS TO DO THIS SO WHEN YOU NEED TO DO IT AGAIN YOU CAN, AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.. GOOD LUCK. When replacing your fuel filter, releive fuel pressure by removing the ignition fuse, then cranking the motor (turning the key) for about 3 seconds, or until the car wont dies out.(if it starts up) GM uses a quick release fitting on most fuel filters. One end will be metal, the other black plastic. The black plastic fitting requires a special GM tool to remove, but be careful as the plastic will weaken over time. If it's an old filter, the plastic may crack, making removing the filter a pain.
