sounds like cv joints

Usually that noise is caused by a slipping serpentine belt. When you first start, the alternator is creating a lot of extra electrical power to recharge the battery. During that time the alternator is more difficult to turn and if the belt is even slightly loose or the tensioner is marginal, it will make that terrible noise.

I have an 03 Impala LS with the 3.8 liter engine and it has made that sound for years. My mechanic says it is water running into the heater core in the dash. He says not to worry about it. SO far it has not caused me any problems.

It may be your CV joints

if it is in fact the starter, it is probably engaging the flywheel. starter may be faulty.

You did not give the year / info on this unit. If this is a rear wheel drive unit I would take a look at the universal joints... If it is a front wheel car, look at the CV joints (front axle u joints)

Answer From my experience the clunk sound is comming form the lower a arm and the bolt that goes straigt thru the biscuit, needs to be tightned I am not a expert but I did spend alot of time figuring it out on my car. some one else writes, did you replace the ball joints? that's the main reason why cars make a single noise while turning.

i believe it to be nothing more then the injectors plusing,but to be sure have it checked out..dodge says they have had a lot of complaints about this

No the engine fluhsing does not ruin the engine.

Cleanliness of diesel & Mobil oil is of the utmost importance. Damage to engine can occur if diesel & Mobil are not properly and completely cleaned. The contamination in the engine can occur from various sources, such as bio degradation of fuel, formation of microbial contents, water presence, More sulphur presence, gum, wax, and sump tank etc.

The flushing need is arises due to black smoke coming out from silencer, increase in fuel consumption, drop in pick up, due to increase in wear & tear of the the engine component etc................

The flushing needs to be done with a proper procedure, whether your vehicle engine is under warranty period or not but this procedure should be carried out in authorized workshop. If the precautions are not taken then the engine failure will take place.

The other way out is to to take the diesel from fuel pump & changing the mobile on time interval recommended by the car manufacturer. In case if the over heating takes place check the viscosity of the mobil and then only use it. In case if there is any hose leakage that will drop the oil level which you can see in the oil indicater then use top up oil or if it has reached changing interval period then change it with new oil.

Worn bearings, loose rotor, warped brake rotor, sticking brakes.

Could have a bearing going out in any of the belt driven components. ie: powersteering, alternator, water pump, air conditioning compressor ,or idler pulleys . Could also be low fluid level in power steering or transmission.

I decided to answer my own question because it miught help someone out there with a similar problem. The Squealing or grinding sound wasn't that at all. I believe the sound was coming from the Catalytic Converter. The sound traveled up the Exhaust pipe to the Digital EGR valve where the sound was heard. If a Catalytic converter problem is suspected it can cause a Digital EGR valve to go bad by blowing a Gasket. Much like I did when trying to fix this problem. The part digital EGR valve is about 168.00 dollars to replace. You can get it in a Car Boneyard for much much cheaper. When replacing the gaskets on a Digital EGR valve you might have to go to a Store where they will have special Gaskets and parts because the Gasket in between the EGR Solenoid and the Valve body is a Aluminum Gasket with a cork or carboard type of surface to it.

If you suspect a Bad cat and want a quick way to test your car, Go to the tailpipe and place your hand down near the exhaust. If you do not feel any exhaust fumes whatsoever, there is a good possibility of a restricted exhaust system. The Catalytic Converter for a 1989 Pontiac Bonney LE is about 140.00 dollars for the cheapest one. Try and get your parts on E-bay if you can. I bought a Cat for 55.57. i hope this helps someone else with there problems.

Oh and by the way, The problems I was experiencing made it seem like I had a Torque converter problem or a tranny problem. If the Digital EGR valve is bad will cause Poor Idle. Poor Performance. Poor Driveability.

A misfire caused by the ignition system exhausts unburned fuel into the exhaust system that enters the catalytic converter and causes its temperature to rise dramatically. An exhaust issue could cause for cylinder 4 to misfire. The camshaft lobes, which are responsible for opening and closing the intake and exhaust vales, are another source for a misfire and rough running engine. The cam lobes for the No. 4 cylinder should be inspected to see if they have been worn down due to lack of oil or other mechanical problem. A damaged camshaft lobe will not allow a valve to open properly if at all.

Fuel is not good!

You got a front driveshaft about ready to break apart. The boot that holds all the grease in there has probably torn open, letting all the grease out and letting sand in. This wears down the joint too quick and soon that joint is going to break, and then you cannot go anywhere!

no this is not a computer problem.it is either a starter motor problem or the ring gear on flywheel is worn

It depends on what you are calling a "whining noise". If it's very loud sounding like screeching tires it could be a slipping belt. Otherwise it could be an alternator that is working too hard or perhaps failing. Have it checked at an auto parts store that has in-car diagnostic equipment.
