Car Starting Problems

Sounds like a alternator problem,or fuel pump,or starter,maybe battery needs to be recharged.Also check your fuses near engine on the right and below the steering wheel.

The coil provides the extra power needed for a good spark, without it, a weak spark may or may not ignite the fuel/air mixture. It's a good idea to replace the coil every 50,000 miles, or every time you replace the distributor cap and rotor.

I am no mechanic, however this is a 2 part fix. First the battery is shot, so replacing this is one part. The next is a little more complicated. You should take your vehicle to autozone or somwhere similar and get the alternator checked out. It sounds like this may need replacing as well. Like I said start with the battery, as this is the cheapest, but get the alternator checked out as well, or you would just waste the money on blowing another battery if the alternator is the problem. Been working on cars for about 18 years. From your symptoms, sounds like you spun a bearing. Need to know more or actually see the vehicle. So many problems arise from over heating an engine, from bearings to valves.

Check the fuel pressure. There should be a test port near the throttle body.

If that checks out OK, test the spark to make sure the coil packs are working.

If everything checks out, try a little starting fluid to see if you can run the engine briefly that way. If it will start with starting fluid and not without, you have a fuel delivery problem and you need to go back through and test everything along the way. If you have good pressure to the test port, that's not the problem.

Without fuel and the lack of spark, you can crank the engine continuously for the next 5 years and it will never start. One needs to find out why there is no spark or fuel. Start with the fuel pump and check the fuse(s), and then check the operation of the fuel pump. Check the electrical system of the car - check fuses, check wiring.

if your you or some else has been Jared hard enough for airbags. In the truck or hatch under 1 of the sidepanles should be a fuel reset botton or switch most of the tome their square with a red button. you need to push or flick the button or switch. And all should return to normal.

There are several problems that can cause a Corolla not to start and the radio or clock not to work. These problems can include a dead battery, faulty ignition switch, or a short in the electrical system. You can use a digital volt meter to test for these problems.

The reason a Lincoln Town Car might not start after the intake manifold was replaced could be that the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor was not installed properly after the manifold was replaced. The computer might also need to be reset.

Look at it. If the wire is corroded and/or the insulation is bulging, replace the cable.

I'd go to AutoZone and have them check for trouble codes with a scan tool first. Have a pen and paper ready, since there could be several codes set. I'd be interested in any codes that started with the letter B.

Everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and a professional shop manual should be available at your local library for diagnostic procedures etc, just make copies of the right pages, as they are usually REFERENCE only...read up and good luck :) You can find the starter on the passenger side of most tacomas through the fender which you would have to remove the rubber or plastic cover going across the fender. Its not hard to remove that it only has locks that pop out. Now to replace the starter is a whole different story. It should be easier on a 2wd than a 4wd. Now I replaced one on a 4wd v6 3.4L tacoma. There is only two bolts holding the starter in place which are pretty difficult to get to on this model. I had take off the top off the transmission fluid dipstick and loosen (take the nut and washer off) the 10 inch bolt that runs across the top of the coil spring and drive the end with the nut almost all the way to where you can't see it. Now if you do this you MUST tighten it to the required foot pounds with a torque wrench and I STRONGLY recommend you use the blue lock tight compound as well as as putting it to the right ft. pounds. Now I THINK (not too sure but I would check a manual in the specifications section for reassurance) it was like 88 ft. pounds. Now If you do have to change it in this fashion ALWAYS keep an eye on that nut and washer because it is a fine threaded metric nut with a special designed washer that will cost $10 from the dealer (cheaper IF you can find one at a junk yard to snatch up. If you ever hear a pop that you can feel a little vibration in the steering wheel or just a loud pop that aounds like you left a socket under the hood and it fellout. Its not a socket its that nut working loose but if you tighten it up right with lock tight as well you shouldn't have any problem but I still check cause when that nut was missing that was real scary. Oh and don't get the idea of taking part of the exhaust off because then you might have to rethread nuts and possibly cause an exhaust leak. If I was you though I would have a manual handy because its a big job that wouldn't be fun to do with out some reference. Though a book won't say to loosen that piece that was something I figured out on my own. Though you shouldn't have to do that an a 2wd model. I hope this helps a bit more than that first explaination. If not post a question on it and Maybe i will see it and respond. Oh if your wondering what the difference id in blue and red lock tight. Red needs heat to loosen again and blue just needs a good wrench.

i am currently having a over heating problem with my vw golf mk1 - my new thermo switch is not getting the fan to come on ( works when i short it at the switch connector) - probly a radiator block usually when a thermo switch is not functioning - i will not allow the fan to kick in it either works or it dosent

It's possible if it's the battery from an electric car with high output, but most vehicles have a 12 volt battery and that won't shock you. HOWEVER, a car battery WILL melt jewelry if you touch both sides of the battery to a ring, necklace or other metallic piece of jewelry. Many people have been seriously burned that way.

Blue smoke, the valve seals may be leaking; white smoke may be condensation build-up in exhaust pipe; black smoke may be too much gas delivery at start-up.

feb 28 2008. had a gmc envoy xuv since march of 2004.with the maintence done when due,the SUV is solid.had service engin soon lite come on,this was gas cap related.IT MUST BE ON IF THE ENGIN IS ON OR IF THE IGNITIOIN IS ENGAGED. expect to ware out a set of tires in two years or 30,000 miles.

You probably have an alternator going bad. Have it checked on or off the vehicle at a local Auto Zone. Good Luck!!!

YES always disconnect the negative cable from the battery first then just be careful to hook up the negative cable to the battery as the last step

The timing marks are for referance on where the cam and crank are to be positioned. The Lanos has marks on each of the timing gears. There is a notch to line up on the bottom (crank/ little cut out in the pan) and up top, the intake at 9 and exhaust at 3 O clock (lined up with the valvue cover). Not a great explaination but hopefully this helps. Actualy I told you wrong on the cam marks, they should line up with each other (pointing to each other along the lines of the cam bolts)
