How do you replace the starter on 2002 olds alero?
First disconnect your battery since you're working on an electrical component. Then locate your starter. The easiest way to do this is to buy a new one and look for something under your car that looks just like it. Most of the time the starter is on the passenger side of the engine and most likely on the rear half of the engine close to the transmission housing bell. Make a diagram, if it helps, or just remember what wires go where on the terminals of the starter solenoid. Then, there are probably three or four bolts that connect the starter to the car. Unscrew these and pull out the old starter and put the new one in and bolt it back on. Connect your wires how they were on the other one and reconnect your battery and you're ready to go! Make sure the wires are connected properly or it could fry the new starter!
If you crank the Chevy engine it wont start until you release the ignition?
i had this problem on my 84 Chevy truck. the wire harness burnt up. so i went and got one from the junkyard. but from and older truck. the wire from the starter to the fuse box has resistance and when you activate the starter the voltage will drop to 8 volts which is to low for a HEI distributor. i installed a relay form the battery to the distributor and used the 8 volt line to activate the relay.
Why will my 1997 V8 ford thunderbird special edition wont start till the cooling fan turns off?

Why wont the key turn in the ignition?
Make sure that the shift lever is fully in park. Make sure it is the right key... Key or ignition barrel may be worn out. Try pushing the shift lever up and turn the key. For a floor shifter try pressing the brake pedal, push the shifter handel forward while trying to turn the key. You may not believe this now, but I've used this trick on a minivan as well as a standard key-driven padlock...take a large firm object, such as a 2x4 or a large rock, and smack the end of the key directly into (towards) the steering column as you would a nail that you were driving into a board. This will often align the tumblers in the ingnition switch and allow the teeth in the key to find their home and allow the key to turn. Otherwise, the tumblers are misaligned and no not recognize the key you are using. This will impress even the most skeptical of auto-philes.

Check for good fuel pressure on the Wrangler. Seven months of sitting could cause fuel to gel in the filter or pump.
You need to charge your battery/boost your car. Turn off the car lights and then do one of the following: 1) Call a service truck to give you a boost. 2) Find a friend with some booster cables and give it a boost. 3) Hook the battery up to a charger and let it charge for a while, and then start it up. Directions for #2 should be in the car's instruction manual.

Change your fuel filter. Also make sure you didn't trip the fuel cut-off switch. Happened to me.
What happens when the tumbler in the ignition switch is bad?
To be clear, this is the cylinder ignition lock we are talking about, not the ignition starter switch. If the tumblers are damaged or 'bad', the key may be able to be removed fromt the ignition lock while the car is running. Also, the key may simply not go into the ignition lock anymore. On most cars the cylinder ignition lock is a separate item and can be replaced for a moderate price. However, this is not something for a novice to work on since this is just one of many interconnected parts. Messing with a ignition system may make your vehicle unable to simply start again.
How do you reconnect the wires to the starter of a 1994 ford f 150XL?
Starter
Removal & Installation1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Remove the starter terminal cover.
4. Remove the terminal nut and separate the battery starter cable from the starter motor.
5. Disconnect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
Ø To disconnect the hard-shell connector from the solenoid (S) terminal, grasp the plastic shell and pull off; do not pull on the wire. Pull straight off to prevent damage to the connector and (S) terminal.
6. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.
7. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.
To Install:
8. Place the starter motor in position and install the starter motor retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm).
9. Install the battery starter cable and a terminal nut to the starter motor. Tighten the terminal nuts to 79 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
10. Connect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
11. Install the starter solenoid safety cap. If equipped.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Start the engine several times to check starter motor operation.
Check to see if there is a fusible link in line with power to your starter solenoid. If you aren't sure disconnect your battery ( both cables, neg first ) and use an ohm meter to check for continuity in your main positive battery cable. Did you check to see if you battery will hold a charge? The easiest way to do this is take it to a parts store for a free test. If the battery fails the test it could have been damaged by a faulty voltage regulator. If you take your battery to the shop for a free test might as well take your alternator along at the same time.

Check the neutral safety switch on the shifter. If you place the shifter into neutral or push the shifter harder into the park position, this may change the switch position to allow it to start. There is a recall on the grand Cherokees for this switch.

Is the driver side facing the car the right side?
If the car is designed to be driven on the right side of the road, when you stand in front of the car and look at the driver, the driver will be on your right. Left and right sides of the car are determined by sitting in the driver seat. I usually just refer to the car sides as driver side or passenger side so as not to confuse anyone.
