The instrument cluster can cause that problem. It shorts out the communication system between the computers.
What if your car will not start the security light stays on .what do you do?
is your security light flashing?
turn the key on, leave on for 10 mins, turn key off let it sit for 2 mins, start car
Just because the jumpstart did not start the car does not eliminate the battery as suspect. Have the battery tested. If the battery tests good and the car still does not start (assuming the starter is spinning fast enough). the next step is to ensure that fuel is reaching the engine. Following that, the next step is to check the wiring from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid/relay and look for a loose or disconnected wire.
Why would a car start then shuts off right after it starts?
Could be the immobiliser, try disconnecting the battery for 30minutes a then connect it back up and try starting it again!!
1995 Lincoln town car will turn over but not start?
i am not an auto tech, how ever I do know that Lincolns have always had problems with their electrical and "computer chip" components. I owned an 85 town car that had similar problems. I would say it is that rather than mechanical. Here is a question for you about your car...when it WAS running, did your engine ever just die when you cut your steering wheel to far one way or the other? that happened to me a lot as well as the other. matter of fact it was that problem that tipped me off on the electrical issue. a mechanic confirmed my suspicions. it could be something else for you though, but I would suggest starting there.
What do I check my car wont start?

Hey here are a few similar things, cause my firebird is doing the same thing to me... I found this Q: 96 s10 that was running fine but recently had trouble with ignition When the key was turned to on position no lights turn on but if you turn it farther than the starter turns but the car doesn't start? Question popularity: 1 [recommend question] Answer Check to see if it has a rod coming out of the bottom area of steering column--controlled by ignition switch that may have become mal-adjusted or bent Answer I'd start with the ignition switch.... Q: 1994 Camaro ignition Security light My 1994 Camaro is in San Jose with this problem and they are hoping to figure this out.....they say that the most common problem with this is that there is a wiring problem that has either shorted out/disconnected or the ignition system is just not reading the "chip" in the key itself and it may be in need of repair......I'll find out more today as they, at this moment are "looking at it now"........We'll see! I'll hopefully find out the true answer today and I'll post it here..........also let you you know what it cost me for this answer!!!!!!!! ==Headline== A: The problem with the camaro was that the connector to the ignition switch literally came apart-broke off-whatever....anyway the fix was to solder the wire back to the switch and its now as good as new! with my '96 Grand Prix, I had this happen 3 or 4 times, after a new alternator and battery... i read on here to spray brake cleaner into the ignition itself ie: where the key goes. Make sure it's a cleaner that won't leave a residue. Spray until it runs clear. Make sure to protect the carpet... like use a big rag under the steering column. I took about 5 minutes to run clear with mine. It hasn't not started since. that was in June/July of '08 Now Nov and no problems.
If you have EFI, electronic Fuel Injection, pumping the pedal will do little good because there in no "pump" to pump fuel into the intake, as with a carburetor.
Punctuation sometime helps. Using 'texting' style communicates information poorly.
Replaced steering column in a 1997 ford expedition and now the car won't start?
is it a new column or used. if all the wires are connected check the ignition switch. not the ignition key part but the module
How do you check starter to flywheel gear clearance-?
Generally when you purchase a starter - depending on the application- it will come with a small thin metal rod that is used to "guage" the proper distance between the bendix and the flywheel. More often than not the starters purchased these days are not necessary to shim or even worry about clearance issues. If the vehicle starts and the starter does not stay engaged too long or does not make a lound whining sound then there is no clearance problems.

How do you know if the starter is bad on a 1993 Toyota Corolla?
Typically, the first indication is the starter solenoid clicks but the starter does not spin. This indicates a dead or weak spot on the armature where the brushes must make good contact. Usually, trying to start the engine a couple more times will result in success. This could go on for a very long time before you actually need to replace the starter (I know). But, it is better to replace as soon as this happens a couple times, because you just don't know when it won't resuscitate itself someday. The other indication that a starter is going bad (or is bad) is if it pulls the battery way down when you try to start. This indicates a shorting of the armature to ground during rotation. Replace immediately.

What are the signs that your auto alternator is failing?
chances are if you don' t need headlights or air conditioning or other high current using accessories , you would never know that the alternator was in the process of failing! The time you will find out is when it is 10 below zero and you wear down the battery by cranking the starter , then put the fan on high for heat , and then drive in the dark u will face various problms u will face problm starting engine u will have dim headlights ac n blower will not be that efficient..
Check for fuel pressure and spark on the no start days.
I have a 1994 B3000 that started doing that several years back. It was a relay that was located within a black box on the drivers side of the engine (I believe there are 3 relays in the box). I found that one of the relays was sticking. When lightly 'tapped' on it would release and the engine would start. After replacing it, the problem went away. Note Did they have the "Fuel Cutoff Switch" in those years of pickups? Typically, it's designed to remove power from the fuel system in the case of an imact or jarring. Check to see if it was somehow popped, and just push the button back in if you have one. Should be under the dash, right above or at the top of the carpet/floor mat passenger side. Little box with a single plug and a red button at the top typically. It may also be the ignition module. I had the same problem with my '94 B-3000. If it sometimes dies on you while driving it probably is the same thing. After replacing it the problem went away. The module is easy to replace. It is located on tn the front of the vehicle , drivers' side next to the radiator. Also tapping it several times may get you by until it can be replaced.
good Luck.
Why would a 1989 Ford Escort make a clicking sound and not start up when attempting to jump it?
Check the starter solenoid Well, i'd start by making sure it's getting enough power from the jump. That being said, perhaps the starter is malfunctioning. 2 answer It is easy. Just check whether there is corrosion on terminals on your battery. Brush termials and clamps and you are done.
