It has to be done by the dealership, who has the instruments to access the cars computer, unless you can fix the problem that made the light come on in the first place (usually an O2 sensor) in which case the light will reset itself after a few starts.

The Check Engine light means the on board computer has detected a problem. Find someone with a code reader to find out what's wrong. It might seem like nothing is wrong, but the quicker you get on it the more $$$$ you will save.

WHat is happening is the ECM thinks the sensor is hooked up but is not getting a reading from the sensor.

Flashing check engine light meens you have a problem with the engine or needs to be resset the computer board .You can solve this problem in different ways,what I did i bring the car to the mechanical shop and for $ 60 they reset the computer board find nothing ,or you can buy from walmart store one this instrument and check by your self and after you find what error code the instrument tell you you may fix easy or bring the car to the shop. You may have a different code, the computer may not have been reset, the converter may not have been installed correctly, problem may not have been the converter in the first place.

Sounds like you have at least two problems. The VSC is a warning that something is not right with your anti-skid control. This could have something to do with either the brake system itself or the sensors that detect the wheel movement. The check engine light is a sign that the on-board diagnostic (OBD) computer senses some problem having to do with the engine. You will have to have the trouble codes read by a mechanic to determine what the problem(s) may be.

I guess Autozone's free check engine light check wasn't free. But it sure make a great guessing tool for them to sell parts! PO301 is the code your refering to. I would try a professional fuel injector cleaning. even if it doesn't solve you proiblem your at least getting somthing you need. You may have leaking injector orings or plugged injectors that are beyond cleaning. Bad Wires can also set this code.

Actually, SAE code P-0301 is a cylinder #1 misfire. Multiple cylinder misfire is P-0300. Only the lowend scanners make this mistake.

However, leaking fuel injectors may be causing this as well as worn plugs or wires. Also consider fuel age and quality. You can go to the same gas station several times in a row and get different qualitity gas each time.

A DTC 301 set at high (over 4,000) RPM with no other obvious faults (i.e., good: plugs, wires, coils, ignition control module, fuel pressure, etc) may suggest a faulty PCM (powertrain control module). It appears that GM had a problem with PCM's for Bonnevilles that year. Incidentally, GM warrants PCM's for 8 years/80K miles. Does anyone have any insight into DTC 304 alternating with DTC 401 for a 1998 Bonneville VIN K - not supercharged)? All of the usual suspects (coils, module, plugs, wires, etc) check-out fine. The problem is intermittent, occurring without a predicatble pattern. Runs fine for awhile, then check engine light and occasionally flashing check engine light. No obvious harness problems visible. Dealership is totally useless with this one: car has 60K and terrific maintenance history. Help?

This can be a challenging code to troubleshoot. My experience has lead to different conclusions. Like above, I have seen worn plugs, bad wires bad coil packs, bad ignition modules, bad ECMs, bad fuel injectors. Rarley a bad headgasket. The most common ones seem to be on the 3.1 engines. Take it to an independent repair shop and try a fuel injection cleaning. the fuel additives won't resolve it as they remove the waxes, but don't really clean the injectors. A professional cleaning involves disconnecting the fule pump and running the motor on this cleaner. I have seen it resolve PO300 codes, make cars run incredibly better or also do nothing.

I have a 1995 Intrepid that has been doing the same thing. My brother, who is a mechanic, told me that it is most likely a faulty oxygen sensor. He said that there's no urgency to get it fixed because it doesn't affect how the car runs. My check engine light has been popping off and on for several months and I haven't noticed any change in the performance of my car. For me it was two oxygen sensors (out of four). I was told that some cars do not start when the sensors go; therefore, I did not want to take a chance, so I ended up replacing them (I did get a deal:the sensors were $75 each; and a friend mechanic put them in for free). Oxygen sensors do affect the performane of the car. The o2 sensors get to better gas mileage by allowing the correct fuel/air ratio I have a 99 Intrepid and the repair guy at the dealership said that the check engine light will come on, but after the car is turned off and on a few times the computer resets itself and it will go out. The check engine light comes on for a lot of different reasons, mine was idle was low (due to a leak in the lower intake gasket). Hope this was helpful

After performing checking procedures on any OBD-II components, clear the PCM of all trouble codes by disconnecting the negative cable from the remote battery terminal for at least ten seconds.

start with the basics. cap rotor plugs fuelfilter airfilter. always check carbon tracking on plug wires. sounds like a faulty EGR valve

make sure gas cap is on all the way or missing cap ,this car must have a gas cap or computer will read [large] emissions leak or emission gas cap, hope this works!

If the ignition module/igniter gets hot it will intermittenly work. When the vehicle is cold it will run, until the dizzy gets hot and then it won't fire the coil. The pick-up coil is also responsible for firing the coil. An open circuit or excessive resistance here will also cause a no-spark condition but is less likely to be an intermittent problem.

The serv light means that there is a problem with the ecu,u will have to take it to a garage to get looked at

This is an anti-slip regulator control cutting in telling you have wheel slippage, and its in the process of stopping the wheel from spinning, or you have the manual override on, allowing you to peel out haha :)

Take it to you local Auto Zone, they can tell what codes are present and clear them, and usually its free. Read your manual.

There is no reset button or procedure for the Check Engine light. The CE light is reset with an OBD2 scan tool. If the gas cap was just loose, then just tighten it, (3 clicks), and after you drive for a few driving cycles the CE light should go off. If it does not then the loose gas cap may not be the problem. This will require the ECU to be scanned with an OBD2 scan tool.
