The EGR valve is mounted to the intake manifold usually on the passanger side of the engine back near the distributor. You will have to pull the air cleaner off to see it or reach it easily.

get the seals checked out around the transfer case and tranny

Take the drain plug out let the oil drain replace the oil filter, put drain plug back in and fill with the recommended ammount and type of oil.

i removed the air injection pump on my 91 305 tbi firebird, and i felt a difference in power and acceleration, as for how much performance that i do not know. the only hard part about removing it is trying to find the right size belt or in my case i had to reroute the belt and actually get a larger belt, but all the work was worth it.

If what you have is a stock 350 with a stock intake manifold and no other modifications other than the cam, you are probably around 300 horses. To make some changes that will enhance the cams potential, you will need to do some additional things. First, if you can't recurve the distributor yourself, have a shop do it. with that cam I would aim for limiting total mechanical advance to about 20 degrees and I would use springs and weights that will make the distributor hit maximum advance at about 2400-2500 RPM. Then I would set the initial timing at 15-16 degrees. Small block chevies seem to do best with a total of 36 degrees total advance. I would also set the vacuum to the distributor so it is manifold vacuum, not ported vacuum,..That way, there is always vacuum advance and that will greatly enhance low and mid RPM performance at part throttle. The next thing that I would do is add an exhaust system that increases flow. A lot of people don't like headers, but I strongly believe their advance far and away outweighs the hassles that they can cause you. The next thing that I would do is to get a dual plane performance intake manifold, and run a500CFM Edelbrock or Qjet carb on it. With these cahanges, you are probably in the 375-400 horsepower range. I would check the keyswitch first. You might use a test light or volt meter to make sure voltage is still getting to the coil when the keyswitch is in the "on" position. Many vehicles of that vintage had 2 circuits in the keyswitch that would run the coil. One was wired to give direct 12 volts for startup operation, the other circuit would provide lower voltage for normal operation. It could be that the startup circuit is still good in the keyswitch and the run time circuit has failed.

Part/casting number on the back of the block..... If the engine has not been tampered with, you can look at the harmonic balancer size, type of exhaust manifolds used. If the heads are off the motor, the evidense will be obvious due to bore size

Fuel Guage accuracy seems to be an issue with GM trucks. Rattles and squeaks in the interior. Intake gaskets also can fail. Those are the most common things. Of course any used vehicle is kind of like playing Russian roulette, any new vehichle I've had is that way too though.

I haven't had any major problems with my 97' gmc. Everything problem was pretty small except for replacing the heater core. Like any old vehicle replacing the breaks and roters is common. Radiator leak, tires, oil cleaner, new break cylinders, bleed brakes, flushing out the radiator, and keeping up with the oil change. Pretty much all the things mechanics or auto part stores tell you to do after so many miles are the things you need to do.

since its on a 86 that means its not factory so you have to figure out what brand it is then just go to there website and ask them or contact one of there dealers.

You could allways add a better ignition. or even change to a higher ratio rocker arms. Hedders are a big help if you add a high flow exhaust. With out knowing how far you want to go with this you could even change heads, cam, compression. Just about any thing that will work on a 350 will work on a 305 but use modderation in picking your parts.

There are two knock sensors located in the block. They are just under the intake manifold.

You will need a puller to remove the steering wheel, after you remove the nut and snap ring in the center of steering wheel. Ther are two holes in the wheel that are threaded. Install puller on center shaft, and screew 2 long bolts through the puller and into the holes on wheel.
