What is the risk in not replacing a leaking lower intake gasket on a 98 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with the 3100 engine?

A vacuum leak can cause the engine to idle high, but worse than that it can cause one or more cylinders to run lean. That can result in exhaust valves and pistons running at a higher than acceptable temperature and cause premature engine failure.

How do you change a headlight on a 2000 Chevy Astro van?

The headlights I know are on a 2001 Chevy Astro (Mine) there is a 10mm bolt holding the corner reflector on the body that gives you access to the lower bolt on either the left or right sides to remove the headlight assembly there are two 10mm bolts on the top of the assembly also to remove ;;the assembly then slides to the outside and tilt forward for replacement of the bulbs.

Where is the coolant sensor on Chevy 2001 venture?

If you are referring to the coolant level sensor, it is mounted on the radiator tank, on the passenger side, near the battery.

If you are referring to the coolant temperature sensor, it is located near the thermostat housing, just in front of the throttle body.

In either case, you should see a connector and wires going to the sensor.

Good Luck, Greg

How do you change the rear bank spark plugs in a 2001 Chevy Venture?

Go get a medium duty ratchet strap. Hook it to the big metal loop on the front of the engine on the right top side of the block. Take the other end of the strap and run it down under the bumper to either the frame or the metal part of the bumper make sure it is secure. take up all the slack in the strap. on the front of the engine there are 2 "bog bones" that hold th engine to the core support take one bolt out of each and flip them up. Once this is done ratchet the engine as far forward as you can. Next remove the alternator and you can now get to all the spark plugs. Just reverse this process to put it all back together. I deleted the original answer. the person who posted it said his way would take about 3 hour(and left you all brusied up after words). this way will take less than 45 min. with minimal knuckle damage.

If you remove the coil pack is a lot better to you can see what you are doing. Mine has not been done at all. over 100th miles.

How do you replace the thermostat on a 2001 Chevy Venture?

everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the reference section for FREE to make copies of...read up and fix like a pro!! ) Dave

Dave, if we had a manual at home, we wouldn't be asking for help...now would we?

The thermostat is beneath the throttle body & behind the exhaust crossover pipe.

It's a ridiculously big job considering it's only a thermostat you're trying to replace:

1) Remove the air cleaner & duct assembly.

2) Drain coolant (rad drain plug on bottom corner, driver's side) below thermostat level.

3) Remove the thermostat bypass pipe. This pipe starts on top of water pump (front- passenger corner of engine) and goes along front cylinder bank, turning towards back across the driver's side of engine. there are about three bolts & three pipe clamps to remove.

4) Remove the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts. There are two bolts in front & two in back. Remove exhaust crossover pipe heat shield. (These bolts may be frozen & decomposed because of heavy oxidation due to high heat, good luck)

5) Remove the exhaust crossover pipe; 3 bolts at each end.

6) Remove radiator hose from thermostat housing, remove thermostat housing & get that sucker.

7) Clean everything & reassemble.

NOTE: when filling cooling system, don't forget to let the air out using the (2) bleeders; near water pump & thermostat housing.

Edit Note for #3 #4 and #5 number 3, top of water pump pipe is held on by one bolt. take that off, on the throttle body, their is a nut holding it on, you must take the throttle body off, so this comes off anyways, this allows Evan leway to move it out of the way. as for 4 and 5, you don't need to remove the cross over pipe or anything else if ur using a wrench. worked for me keeping it in

Where is the PVC valve in a 2001 Chevy Venture?

Hi,

The PCV valve is located on the driver side of the engine, in what might be considered the "left-front" corner of the engine.

There should be a link with this question that shows several views of the engine compartment on this van. You can see the valve in a few of those pictures.

Good Luck

How do you remove a key switch from a 2002 Chevy Impala?

What is the easiest way to replace the spark plugs on a Chevy Astro van?

I found that you can reach the drivers side front plug #1 through the wheel well. Plugs #3 and #5 I was able to reach from under the van, these are the middle and back plug on the drivers side.

I was able to reach the passanger side plugs #2 ,#4 and #6 through the passenger wheel well. Plug #6 was a bit tricky, I used in order a 5/8' spark plug socket with swivel attached, a 3" extension, another swivel, two 8" extensions.

You will still have to remove the engine cover if changing plug wires which I suggest you do along with the cap and rotor.

What would cause the lights on your 99 Chevy Venture to flash?

If you're referring to the exterior lights on your van, it's probably the turn signal switch. When I press the brakes, or turn on a turn signal, my rear lights look like a Christmas tree. The brake light wiring has to go through the turn signal switch because of the cruise control, which is why the brake lights are affected by the switch. Mine started with a problem on the right turn signal, and since has completely broken down. Front lights still work fine - it's the back ones that have the problem. When I press the brakes, both my dash indicators for the turn signals light up. I suggest getting a new turn signal combination switch on eBay, as they are around 350 at retail stores.

It would help if you asked a detailed question or described symptoms instead of

being so vague that changing the tire might be the correct answer.
