Circuits

Overachieving and under-appreciated, circuits are the foundation that our technological society is built on. Now's your chance to find out not only how they work, but why. Questions regarding the physics behind voltage, resistance, capacitance, inductance, transistors, LEDs, switches, and power supplies; and how they're used to create analog and digital circuits, should be directed here.

Does interchanging the galvanometer ad battery in a wheatstone bridge affect the balance?

No.

Answer

Work it out, yourself, from first principles. Start with the assumption that, for the bridge to be 'balanced' (i.e. with no current flowing through the galvanometer), the potential-difference across the galvanometer is zero. It is quite simple.

Why low pass RC circuit can not alter the shape of the sinusoidal signal?

because it is an alternating wave and it has no dc value on it.In RC circuit the capacitor blocks only dc values and it allows all ac values so the wave shape is preserved

Does a light fixture spark if you don't have a light bulb in it and turn the power on?

There is no spark between the terminals inside the socket. For a spark to occur, it would have to meet or exceed the "sparkover voltage", however the gap is too large and the voltage is too low (see: Paschen's Law, and breakdown voltage).

Where is the 02 sensor heater circuit bank 1 located on a 1999 Toyota solara I have an code P0135.?

This code is most often caused by a failure in the heater element of the oxygen sensor itself. Bank 1 is the engine side that has the #1 cylinder in it...typically the rear bank on a V6 and the only bank on a four cylinder. You also need to know if it's sensor 1 or 2...if memory serves, P0135 is the sensor 1 or sensor on the engine manifold ahead of the catalytic converter. Careful when removing, they like to seize in the manifold, and if you damage the threads you'll have to replace it as well.

How much energy does a 12-V battery use to move 2.5C through a circuit?

1 volt = 1 joule per coulomb

12 joule/coulomb x 2.5 coulomb = 30 joules

That's the energy removed from the battery and dissipated

by the circuit, either as heat or radiation.

How do water pressure switches work?

Water pressure switches work as monitors in a well system. These operate electrical controls and circuits that turn on and off depending on changes in water pressure.

How to adjust a dynamo voltage regulator?

Avoid the problem and fit a solid state regulator. For example view www.manortec.co.uk/dvr.htm

How and where do you get threw the firewall to connect the amplifier wire to the battery on a 93 mark 8?

* i dont have a 93 mark 8 but i have a 94. i didnt go through the fire wall but the floor board. under the carpet there is a black plug. if you pull that out there is a hole to run a wire through. hope this helps.

* There are two holes inside the driver's side doorjam that open into the passenger compartment. They are covered by plastic plugs, which can be pulled off. You can run your power wire from the battery, through the inside of the driver's side fender (above the splash guard) to one of these holes. Remove the driver's kick panel by the emergency brake pedal, and pull the wire down into the passenger compartment. You can then route the wire the rest of the way to the trunk. -JMiles_T

Where is the fan speed resistor on a Nissan Quest van and how do you replace it?

It is location on the passager side under the glove compartment. You can get to it bu removing the blower cover locating directly under the glove compartment. After removing the cover, you will find couple of screws securing it to the blowing housing. Good luck. It should take 10-15 min to do this.

How do you replace the heater resistor pack on a 1996 GMC Safari?

Open the hood. On the passenger side of the engine compartment, you will see the radiator overflow/combination windshield washer bottle. Using a pair of dikes, carefully remove the presstabs holding this container in. It will be necessary to use a pair of pliers to remove the clamp holding the radiator overflow hose from the tank. Also, you will need to unplug the windshield washer pump plug. Take care not to break the pump off of the tank. Remove the pump hoses with gently pulling. Remove the tank. Mounted to the lower portion of the black, plastic evaporator case you will see a square, electronic unit with a plug on it. Remove the plug using a small, flatblade screwdriver to release the latch. Using a 1/4 inch ratchet with a 5.5mm socket, remove the two gold screws holding the resistor board to the case. The new resistor may be slightly different than the old one and may even require a slight modification (cutting of part of the unused portion of the board to fit. You will see what I am talking about, if necessary) Install the new board using the original screws and reinstall the plug. Do not be surprised if the new board fails shortly after installation as GM has been having serious problems with this unit (which is probably why the new board is slightly different than the original). Generally what is happening is that the high blower relay portion of the boards (original and new)are failing. If this occurs, write me back and I will tell you how to install your own external high blower relay. After the ground fails, write me back again and I will tell you how to supply a 'false' ground to correct this problem as well. Whew! Good luck! SDIgroup

Different types of inductors?

There are a variety of types of inductors. These include coupled inductors, multi-layer inductors, ceramic core inductors, as well as molded inductors.

Where is the voltage regulator on a 1990 Dodge Dakota?

On fuel injected models, the voltage regulator is not in the alternator, it is, unfortunately, part of the computer. The field winding in the alternator receives it excitation voltage from the computer. The computer monitors the system voltage and provides what it thinks is the appropriate field drive to keep the battery charged. The bad part about this is that you have to replace the whole engine computer if the regulator portion of it fails (at least $200.00 or more) I know this from personal experience. It might be possible to install an external regulator or install an alternator with built in regulator but you will have to modify the wiring.

On carbureted models the voltage regulator should be mounted on the firewall near the ignition coil. It should look like a small metal box about the size of a pack of cigarettes and be held on by two small bolts and have a small wiring harness (two or maybe three wires).

Where is the voltage regulator on a 1986 Ford Bronco?

Inside the alternator. On my 85 it's the silver box on the passenger side fender.

Where is the voltage regulator for the instrument panel in a 1990 thunderbird?

Do you mean rheostat for brightness control of dash lights? Usually in the dimmer control switch Voltage regulator for engine operation--inside the alternator

Where is the AC fan speed resistor in a 1998 Buick Regal?

The resistor is mounted to the heater case on the passenger side of the vehicle. There is a hush panel that you will have to remove first. The resistor is mounted with three very small hex headed screws. My advise is to remove the one closest to you when you are under the dash, and only loosen the other two which are very hard to get at. Sometimes, you can't get to them at all, so you will need to bend the resistor down and pull towards you while rocking the resistor. It should pop out with some effort. While the resistor is out, loosen the two hard to reach screws just enough to make it easy to reinstall the new resistor, then install the resistor and the third screw. You shouldn't have to tighten the other two screws. Connect all related wiring that goes to the resistor and the blower motor. There is one other thing to worry about on these cars. There is a water deflector under the wiper cowl panel outside the car that can sometimes fall off. When this deflector/ weatherstrip falls off, it will allow water to hit the blower resistor and will cause it to fail prematurely. Make sure this is installed correctly to avoid a repeat failure. Where is the Blower Resistor located on a 1999 Chevy Prizm?

Way up under the dashboard, on the right-hand (passenger) side--almost against the firewall. Pretty tight squeeze. You're looking for a little (1 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.?) black or grey box that plugs in (or out).

Where is the voltage regulator on dodge b150 van other than fire wall?

It may be an internal regulator in the alternator. The engine computer is also the voltage regulator.

Where is the resistor block on a '97 Chevy Cavalier?

What do you mean resistor block, what does is do. There is not such thing called that. Controls fan speed... somewhere in dash Blower motor resistor? It's way up under the passenger side of the dash. You have to take the blower motor out. Right up next to the firewall. You should take out the passenger seat to get up in there.
