How do you program a key fob for a 2005 Chevy Venture?

If you have an original key you can do it very easily with that. Buy a new key with the chip in it and get it cut (usually only about 2-3 bucks) Place the existing key in the ignition and turn it to full power up, without starting it for 2 or 3 seconds. Turn it off and then place the new key in and do the same thing but let it sit that way for 3-4 minutes. This should program the new chip without having to pay the 30-100 for the dealer to do. The new key with a chip will run about 30 at the dealer, but if you look on eBay for blank "chip" keys, you can find them for 10-15 dollars. Good luck! I actually got this info from a service tech at Chevy who was a friend of mine. I tried it, and it worked.

How do you replace the water pump on a Mercury Topaz?

I have recently had to change out the water pump on my 93 Topaz and it was an experience. Ford did not make this model like all other water pump applications. Here is the step by step for removal. First let the engine cool down if it has been running. Then drain the fluid from the system. Then disconnect the hose at the top and bottom of the pump. There are three bolts (10 mm) to remove the entire pump located on the back side toward the firewall. The hardest one to spot is the one directly being the pulley. Once you have completed these steps you should be able to remove the pump through the bottom of the engine compartment. After you remove the pump there are 7 smaller bolts that hold the pump together(8 or 9 mm). Once you change your water pump and reseal it, install it just as you had removed it. If you have problems with the bolts tightening down work with them and make sure you have the pump mounted correctly.

Where is is the transmission drain plug for 2001 pt cruiser?

I've never worked on a PT but this is a fairly easy question to solve. The engine will be on one side (passenger or driver) of the car and the transmission on the other because it is a front wheel drive car. Under the car there will be two pans with drain plugs, one will be the engine, the other transmission. To figure out which is which look at the top of the motor; there will be the valve cover which looks like an oil pan (because it essentially is an upside down one) with spark plugs and spark plug wires wires. That tells you where the engine is. If the engine is on the driver's side pull the plug on the passenger side and vice versa.

How do you replace the rear speed sensor on a 2002 dodge Dakota?

On my 1999 Durango 4X4 with rear antilock brakes, the sensor for the antilock brakes, the speedometer, and the automatic door locks, is located on the rear differential. It's a magnetic sensor that has a retaining device, and slides into the top of the differential case. Getting the old one loose was challenging. The replacement went in pretty easily. Unplug the wire, remove the retaining hardware, pull or pry the old sensor out, put the new one in, replace the retaining hardware, and plug it back in. This instantly restored operation of the speedometer, and cleared the antilock brake fault. I didn't have to disconnect the battery to accomplish this, though for best safety to the computer, this would probably be a good idea. Also, supporting the truck with jack stands on the frame, so the differential is hanging off the the springs, greatly improves access to the area of the differential you're trying to get to. Even better is to get it up high enough to sit/stand under the truck.

What is the cause of an obdii code p0340 even after the camshaft position sensor was replaced and the wiring is good to the pcm for a 2000 ford contour 2.0 liter 4 cylinder?

You really didn't give enough engine info, because there were three different 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engines in a 2000 Contour. But I am going to take a wild guess and say that you probably have an VCT engine. You will know because it will have a big "VCT" stamped across the valve cover, and a two-wire elecrical connector sticking straight out of the middle of the front end of the valve cover, close to the number 1 spark plug. That "VCT" means everything, because it stands for Varible Cam Timing, and is probably the at root of your problem. In the VCT system, the PCM actually advances and retards the exaust camshaft. I mean it actually clocks the cam itself either forward or backward by using a special cam gear that can literally be turned to a different position on the end of the camshaft. The PCM can actually turn it, by using a pressurized oil feed passage that applies oil pressure to a special mechanism inside the cam gear to reposition it on the camshaft, thus advancing and retarding the cam timing. Then it uses the cam sensor to moniter the camshaft position. If the PCM makes an adjustment to the camshaft, and then sees that the camshaft is in the wrong position by means of the cam sensor, it will set a P0340. I will tell you this. Those sensors are almost bullet proof. I have never had to replace a cam sensor on a Contour. I work in a shop with about 20 guys and there has only maybe been 2 of those sensors replaced in the last couple of years in my shop. They just dont go bad hardly. What does go bad is that special gear I just described and the VCT valve that the PCM uses to control it. A big contributing factor to causing these things to go bad in the first place is usually not changing the oil often enough or switching up brands of oil. The passages in those things are the size of a pinprick, and even the slightest tiny bit of sludge at all kills them. The exaust cam has to be removed to replace the VCT valve. INSTALLER BEWARE! It requires a set of special cam alignment tools to put it back together. There are no alignment marks and there are no keyways on the gears, so the cam gear will spin freely on the end of the camshaft once the bolt is loose. There is one more simpler possibility. That you have a problem in the VCT control wiring back to the PCM. It's that connector that is sticking out of the top of the valve cover. Inspect that wiring, and especially where it goes directly into that connector. Sometimes you get a break in that wiring, and the PCM loses control of the VCT. That will also set a P0340.
