Why won't the heater ac and defrost work for a 1992 caprice classic?
Probably a bad fan motor. Luckily, that is one of the easiest and cheapest things to fix on these cars. Open the hood and look by the windshield on the passenger side and there it is. Remove the screws, disconnect the wire and vent hose, and lift it out. The fan is attached so you have to transfer it to the new motor. Last one I bought was only $30 or so. VBdenny
Why would your 5.2 have power loss?
You should look at the air filter, if it is filled with debris you wont let the engine breath properly. The fuel filter, after 30,000 or so miles (or even less if you picked up some bad gas) sediment can clog the fuel filter. Spark plugs, if your plugs are overly fouled you might not be getting a good spark. Timing, improper timing will be a power rebber as well. The oxygen sensor could be another possibility also. It also could be more serious like carberator problems, or valves or pistons. If you are unsure your best bet may be to take it to a repair shop so they can hook it up to a diagnostic computer. Russ

How do you change the multi function switch on a 1996 Chevy half ton?
remove lower trim panel under steering column. locate the rectangular connector, loosen the 7mm bolt in center of connector, pull apart, now you can release the connectors from each side of main connector. you will also have to unhook the park lock connector, just trace the wire up and over the column and you should find it. now you will have to remove the trim covers from the column to access the two screws that hold the switch to the column. these are #25 star screws, the lower screw is a little tricky, but if you have a short bit that you can use a wrench on, you will get it out. all is left is cutting plastic ties that are holding the harness in. also, when removing steering column trim, you will have to remove key switch to completely remove top panel. however if you are careful you can lift the trim enough to remove the top screw from multifunction switch without completely removing the trim.
