Firing Order of six cylinder, four cylinder, and other kinds of engines: ----------------- The firing order for four cylinder engines where the cylinders are in-line is 1243 or 1342. Those are the only two possibilities I've ever found for inline four cylinder engines. In practice, it's almost always 1342, except for Ford engines which are 1243. For inline six cylinder engines, it's typical to have a firing order of 153624. Other combinations are possible. But if you get stuck, you can eliminate various combinations that it can't be. For example, with the basic four cylinder, the order has to be of the form inner cylinder, outer cylinder. That's why it can't be 1234. At some point cylinder 1 will fire, and the next one must be either 2 or 3, since it can't be 4. If the next one is 2, the one after that is 4, leaving 3 as the last. The only other order being 1 and then 3, meaning that it would then have to be 1,3,4,2. So, only two possibilities; 1243 and 1342. This is good logic, but remember that it only really applies to basic inline engines typical of the type where the crankshaft is only supported at the ends. With six cylinder engines it's a bit more complex, but 123456 is out, except for some V6 engines. In fact anything with 34 or 43 in it is out, as both middle cylinders would fire sequentially. See, engine firing order has to be arranged so it is as smooth as possible, spreading out the load. The business of load-spreading is not as simple as that, however, as there are resonance and other dynamic factors which have to be considered. Also, if the crankshaft as several bearings along its length, this improves the stress handling and makes the firing order less important relatively. A special note: "in-line" means the cylinders are all in a row. For other configurations of cylinders, for example a flat four, boxer, or V type engine, the rules are different! I am reliably informed that Porsche/VW flat 4 engines have a firing order of 1432. This can still make sense, because the engine is arranged as two pairs of opposing cylinders, so the criteria for engine load balancing are quite different. As with many things, this whole situation becomes much more complex when the field is expanded to include a wider variety of different engine configurations. V6, V8, flat 6, flat 12, delta, boxer, V at 180 degrees. In addition to the extra complexity of higher numbers of cylinders, there's also the fact that larger engine configurations have a variety of different cylinder numbering systems too! Right, so to sum it up so far: four cylinder inline engines are always 1342 or 1243. If it's Ford then it's assumed to be 1243 and if not then 1342. Flat four engines are different. Six cylinder engines have been found to sometimes be 153624, but there are other possibilities which are valid. Good sense prevailing, you can eliminate some of the possibilities. I hope some of this helps! More ODD firing order possibilities: Well what about the firing order for a three cylinder engine? It has to be 123 or 132. Those are the only possibilities. Two cylinder engines? There would only by one possibility, as the cylinders would have to fire alternately. Incidentally, a firing order MUST include all the cylinders exactly once. And, it's reasonable to number the engine cylinders from 1 to n, however many cylinders there may be, and as no cylinder may be missed out, it is usual to include cylinder 1 first. If you know of any specific exceptions to the "1 first" convention I'd be interested to know. So why not 1234 on a basic engine? Quite simply that would not be a good firing order. If you were designing an engine, there would be better choices you could make. How about five cylinder firing order? It would have to be something like 14253 or 13524. The more cylinders, the more possibilities. Plus, with different cylinder arrangements and cylinder numbering systems, a greater range of possibilities exist. If you're looking at this page trying to work out what order to put the spark plug leads back on to your engine or some similar technical problem, here are a few extra items which might help: * Engine cylinders are usually numbered from front to rear. That's "front of the engine" rather than "front of the vehicle". * On engines which have an electric spark plug ignition system with a distributor cap, you can sometimes see cylinder numbers mentioned inside/on the distributor cap. * Technical workshop manuals for the specific engine are the best source of information for finding the firing order. There is not one. You just have to loosen the bottom radiator hose and open the fill cap on the antifreeze reservoir when the vehicle is cool.

It is done with the radio controls. Read your owner's manual. My 97 has a yellow button under the dash to the right of the steering column. Press it immediately AFTER you have inflated your tires evenly. Don't know about radio control options.

Hi, I had a similar problem on my 1999 Venture. I found it was the Booster that went bad. I replaced it and still have the ABS light ON. I bleed the brakes (on these anti-skid systems I bleed the brakes without power) and still had the ABS light ON. Long story longer, when the booster went bad it shorted the ABS Brake Computer ($800)underneath the drivers seat. I had to return to my duty station and had to let the GM pro's figure it out. The computer plus the labor was $1100. Thanks GM for raping me!!!

I had the same problem with my 2001 Venture except mine was caused by a broken sensor wire on the front right wheel hub. It occured right after replacing front brake pads. The sensor is not sold separatly so I had to replace the complete front wheel hub. ABS now works great!

As for the first guy, sounds like a misdiagnosis to me. Never heard of a booster shorting a computer! Anyway, i agree it sounds like you may have damaged a sensor or sensor wire while doing the brakes

Try bleeding the master cylinder pump under the hood, if it has bleed points, mine is a 99 venture and I kept bleeding there first because I wasn;t getting any fluid to the back brakes. After all that my ABS and BRAKE dash light went off.

Depends on the engine. Some do not have a dip stick and you check it at the transmission. Open the plug and check with finger for fluid.

Try this: KEYLESS ENTRY PROGRAMMING Have all remotes for the vehicle on hand. Make sure all the doors and rear hatch/trunk are closed during programming. Only need to use 1 remote to get into program mode but all remotes must be programmed during the same session. Each step must be completed within 5 seconds. 1. Sit in the car with all doors/trunk tightly closed 2. Turn the key to the ON position, marked by "II" on the ignition bezel so the dash lights come on, then within 5 seconds press the "Lock" button on the remote for 1 second or so and release the button. 3. Turn the key to the OFF position, marked by "I" on the ignition bezel - dash lights go off. 4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 three more times (A total of 4 times) - each step must be done within 5 seconds of the previous step. 5. Upon the 4th turning of the key to "ON", press the lock button on one remote, the locks will make a cycling sound (clunk), locks will NOT lock or unlock at this point, they will just make a noise. The system is now in programming mode. Do not turn key off. 6. Within 5 seconds of entering programming mode and within 5 seconds of each other, press the lock button ON EACH remote you are programming, for a second or so and release. This step needs to be completed within 10 seconds. Each time a remote button is pushed, the locks should cycle. Up to 3 remotes can be programmed. 7. Turn ignition completely off and remove the key. Step out of car and close door. The remotes should be programmed and should work. If you have a trunk/hatch release, the button for this feature needs to be held for a few seconds before the trunk/hatch will "pop".

I was told by the dealer that it was about 18-20 miles. Not sure how accurate that is. My fuel light came on yesterday, mine is a 2003 Grand Am. So I am checking to see how far I get.

Use the dipstick. If the oil line is over the line that says something like MAX. you have too much. In any case, it will usually blow a lot of the excess out of the crankcase breather and oil will be all over that side of the engine and engine compartment.

There are many reasons why a car won't start. The battery may be drained, the cables may be bad, there may not be enough fuel or any fuel getting to the engine, the alternator or start may be going bad.

When you say you put too much oil in it and it ran a couple of times, I assume you have a two-stroke engine where you mix the oil with the gasoline. You need to drainthe fuel mixture and replace with the correct gasoline/oil mixture. It may be necessary to remove the carburetor and clean it off with carburetor cleaner to remove the accumulated oil, you might also want to clean out the fuel lines. If it isa four-stroke engine where you add oil at the oil sump. you need to drain some of the oil to attain the proper level, remove the spark plug and clean it well - it may take several cleanings in orderto remove enouigh oil from the cylinder for it to start.(or replace with a new spark plug - itmay be necessary to also clean upa few times). - Good luck.

some hub bearing are one complete assembly if not remove rotor from car bearing should be in rotor or hub meaning drum for back brakes the bearing is inside the middle of the rotor there should be a seal that holds it in place look for the edge of that seal and tap under the edge of that seal until... IN REPLACING THE NEW SEAL YOU MUST clean all the grease from the hub to ensure there s no old grease left at least much as possible,then pack the hub with new grease besure not to get grits in to the grease. grits and grease don t mix, then dip the bearing into the grease to ensure that it s fully greased then replace the bearing in the hub and tap on the new hub evenlly or it will not go in right after that your on your way to reassembling the hub to the car.... ENJOY

These are a complete hub assembly. They require no packing grease. Remove wheel, brake calapier, calapier bracket, brake rotor, remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle, remove the half saft from the hub( 36mm ) nut. 3 or 4 bolts hold this hub in place. All steps may not be listed, but get'er done. If you are not mechanically inclined do not attempt this.

Buy a new regulator.

Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

If the window goes down when you depress the switch, but not up, it is almost certain that the motor needs replacing. The motor is overheating and the thermal switch inside causes it to stop. The window might go up only part way or an inch or less. Let it cool down and repeat until the window is completely up - might take an hour or more. Definitely not good if it is raining. The solution is to replace the motor.

If the cause of the light has been repaired, the light should go off after the system performs its "self-test". If it is still on, disconnecting the battery for at least 15 seconds should reset the computer. Otherwise, there is probably still a problem in the system.

At idle, should run about 40PSI. Also depends on what size engine you have.

At speed, like 55-60, no lower than 60-70PSI.
