The crank sensor is between the block and the radiator fan. It has a black cord that goes to a connector on the drivers side of the motor. All you need is a 10MM socket a short rachet extension and a 1/4" rachet. You should remove part of the air intake it hase on 10MM bolt and one 10MM nut. It sits on top of the radiator. When you have removed the intake you will see the sensor.

I think it could be your donut gasket or a small hole in the exhaust pipe.

You may also need to change the oil. If the oil has not been changed for an extended period of time, the dirt and debris that accumulates in your oil will block the passages to the hydrolic lifters causing them to run "dry".

Be caution with the ticking noise, I once got a good, loud ticking noise in myne and it turned out to be a stuck lifter! Not replacing a stuck lifter can blow your engine.

according to my knowledge it is situated on top of the gear box at the back side ... meaning more to the firewall side. its a little black thing with two plugs in. that what i found out because i had a problem with the darn thing also.!!!!

I have a '98 Kia with the DOHC engine. There are two plugs and two wires located under a plate on the very top on the engine. Take out 6 or 8 screws to open it up and the plugs and wires are accessible. I HAVE A 1999 KIA AND THE SPARK PLUGS ARE UNDER THE LITTLE PLASTIC COVER ON TOP OF THE ENGINE AND UNDER THERE ARE TWO "JELLO" MOLDS AND TWO RUBBER COVERS. THERE ARE SPARK PLUGS UNDER THE RUBBER COVERS AND UNDER THE "JELLO" MOLDS. AFTER FINDING THEM THEY WEREN'T HARD TO CHANGE. =Answer= Same as above, except when you go to change the plugs you will need an long extension for your socket. Make sure that the socket is a regular spark plug socket with the rubber insert or it will be difficult to extract the spark plug from the housing. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly

Unless you know where the timing marks are, and have done this a few times at least, save the aggravation, and take it to a garage. If you don't get it exactly right, and you crank the engine, you'ld just end up in doing more damage because you'll be running the pistons into the tops of the open valves, and vice versa. Save the money and let a professional do it.
