If the rear view mirror of a 1994 Lincoln Town Car fell off the windshield how do you separate the mounting bracket from the rest of the mirror so you can re-glue it using an adhesive kit?

Where the mirror arm attaches to the mounting bracket there is a tiny Allen screw. Take an Allen wrench that fits the Allen screw and turn counter clock wise to loosen the screw and the mounting bracket will slip out. Reverse the action to mount the mirror back to the mounting bracket after it is attached to the windshield. I have just done this job to my '94 town car. Good luck!

How do you replace rear shoucks on a 2000?

Shocks on a 2000 what? Some have shocks, some struts. If shocks, jack the car up and support it. Jack up on the rear wheel assembly enough to just take the pressure off of the shock and take it loose top and bottom. Rear wheel drive, the shock hold the rear end up when it is off of the ground. Front wheel drive may also depending on the make. Assume there is pressure down on the axle and jack it up before removing the old shock.

...since the question of how to replace rear shocks was for a 2000, and was in the "Lincoln Town Car" section, I assume the person asking was asking about a 2000 Lincoln Town Car. I have a 1995 Lincoln Town Car, that originally had an airbag rear suspension. I think the 2000's had airbag suspensions too. If so, is the trouble really with shocks or the air bags? When my airbags went out, I ended up swapping to a traditional coil spring & shocks setup, much cheaper than the ~$2000 I was quoted to fix the airbag problem...which MIGHT have been leaking airbags, MIGHT have been a computer control, MIGHT have been a bad compressor, or MIGHT have been a leak in the lines from the compressor at the front of the car to the air shocks at the rear. I had little faith in the shop that diagnosed it as a defective computer control unit ($1500 + labor), as I truly did not believe that unit had failed. Buying a rear suspension kit to replace the airbags, plus paying someone to put it in, ran me around $600.

Why is there water leaking on the passenger side floorboard of your Lincoln town car?

Over the years I have had this on many of my cars as they get older...indicative of the heater core starting to leak.

If you turn on your defroster does your windshield fog over (rather than clear)? Another symptom.

I do not know what is involved in changing a town car's heater core...most vehicles have it embedded so deeply under the dash that you have to tear almost everything apart to get to it.

If this IS your problem, it's not going to get better...and it's too late for an additive like "Stop-Leak" to do any good. A temporary solution (not so good THIS time of year) is to bypass the heater completely...under the hood you should find two hoses, about 1" in diameter, that attach to fittings by the firewall. One is the heater input, one the output. Disconnect them from the firewall, and attach them to each other using a fitting, or take one off and run the other where you removed the first from.

The good news, no more leaking inside the car. The bad news, no heater function, or worse no defroster function.

Good luck!

How do you program the garage door opener in the visor of a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII?

Answer

Depends on the garage door opener you have. For the most part hold the button on the visor until it flashes fast, or slow, Just so you see the light change. Then hold the button on you garage door remote next to the visor until the light on the visor changes again. This should do it. Now if you have a rolling code garage door opener then you need to locate the learn button on the garage door opener motor. Press the learn button until it changes and then run to your car and press the visor button until you see the light on the garage motor hold steady. Good luck.

How would you fix nonworking gas gauge on 1988 Lincoln Town Car?

Answer Replace it. Just replaced mine as it was always on "Full" or above. Seems to be OK now. Aussie Bill.

Fair enough but I'd suggest seeing if the fault is elsewhere first, such as a poor electrical connection on the supply or earth side of the sender or gauge. If these are OK... establish if it is the sender on the tank, or the gauge itself, that has failed.

How do you repair the air suspension on a 1985 Lincoln Continental?

Well, if its leaking and not holding air then the only solution is replacing the entire air strut if the bag is wrapped round the shock at the top, that's an air strut, unless the bag is separate then just repair or replace air bag. u can but an air strut at Suncore Industries online for about 169. but you have to pay for shipping which brings it up to around 200. any q's you can contact me at m3idnight@netscape.net, until then chow.

Thats if its a bag leaking. On mine it was the dryer for the system all four hoses were leaking a repair shop sold dryers w/ new lines for $80 i didnt have it so i used epoxy to seal mine it cost me $5. try bagmasters.com they have a system chek you can run on it. you also have 3 ride height sensors you might need to chek 2 front 1 rear and a switch in the trunk make sure its on. You can run strait power to the compressor to chek if it works if it dose then your loosing air and there are valves on th bags them selves good luck
