Yes, the 1971 headers should work well on any head for a Gen 1 (pre-LT-1) Chevy small block. Header leaks are a common problem with all headers mating to all heads on any engine. The solution is to make sure that the headers that you buy are of a thick enough guage steel (usually 16 guage or thicker is best; and thicknesses are greater the smaller the number, so 14 guage is thicker than 16 guage) and that the flange is also thick enough (usually around 3/8" or thicker.) The flange thickness should help prevent warpage leaks and the tube thickness should prevent weld and stress crack leaks. Weld leaks usually occur when the tubing is thin because it is harder to weld thinner metal (turn up the heat and the weld pierces the tube, turn it down and the weld is weak, so thicker metal equals better weld) and stress cracks occur when heating and cooling a metal repeatedly, as this hardens the metal and causes it to be less pliable and easier to crack/harder to bend. The other considerations are torque pattern of the header bolts (nuts if your head has header studs) and gasket material and prep work. The head itself may have to be machined if it is an older/used head to ensure the mating surface is flat. The header and head should be thoroughly cleaned before placing the gasket or gasket sealant and you should follow header manufacturer instructions for 1) whether you need sealant, 2) what thickness and material the gasket should be (whether the engine is supercharged in any way affects this as well,) and 3) what the torque pattern and tightening spec's are for your headers (there is a specific order you MUST follow for tightening header bolts/nuts and a specific torque to tighten them to; often tightening is done in stages where you must tighten each bolt/nut in a specified order/pattern to a certain torque, then you must repeat the pattern of tightening again, and sometimes yet again, tightening slightly more each time to exact torque specifications each time to prevent warping the header flange by over-tightening one spot on the flange at a time.) If you follow all of these instructions you SHOULD not have any header leaks. There is always the question of quality though so I make no guarantees, but the horsepower and torque gains from using headers over stock exhaust manifolds is undeniable! I hope this helps you!

There are two kinds of 'white-smoke'. If it dissipates quickly into the air, its just steam (water) no big deal if it goes away in a bit.
The second is the kind that hangs in the air and leaves a cloud behind the car. That's OIL. That's expensive!!
You get a cloud of white smoke coming out your exhaust every time you speed?
Pretty sure that means it is burning your engine coolant. The anti freeze is somehow leakinging into the combustion chamber and when it burns with the gas the smoke is white.
What would cause a muffler to make noise?
Damage. Hole. Perished gasket. Incorrectly fitted. Corrosion.
How can you stop black soot from coming out of your exhaust?
engine tune just a major service then maybe a new exhaust system
White Smoke is a symptom of coolant in the combustion chamber. A blown head gasket or cracked head is the most likely cause. Stop drivng the vehicle immediately as serious engine damage will occur. Get this fixed ASAP.
There is a second possible explanation. It could be blow by. All engines have some amount of blow by.....but as piston rings wear, this can get worse. The way blow by and pressure is handled in most engines is through the PCV valve. The valve pulls these gases into the intake to be burned in the combustion cycle. If the valve is stuck closed, or missing altogether, the gases will build up and eventually start coming out through the air filter exhaust pipe as you've described.
Will you need a new transmission if your 2002 Isuzu axiom shutters in 1st and 2nd?
No. Happened to my wife's car. There's a module attached to the tranny which was replaced. Was under warranty so don't have cost.
White smoke coming out of exhaust?
if there is white smoke ur vehicle is either burning oil or it is moisture in the gas chamber
Why does the check engine light come on in your 2000 Accord?
My mom has a 2000 Honda Accord Lx and had the same problem. It ended up being a faulty gas cap.
What causes blue smoke from the tailpipe?
Probably it is burning oil.
It happens if you a using a mist system of lubrication. If not, you should probably replace your piston rings. Combustion of oil causes fouling of the spark plug.
What will cause the check engine light to come on and off on Chrysler cirrus 1999 lx1?
On my 98 Cirrus, replaced the fuel cap and then disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and the check engine light turned off. My wifes Lexus had a similar problem. Sometimes a different brand of Gas will do the trick too.
^ I tried this today and it worked! Thanks so much =)
If it's set up like my 2003 800 classic, you can't take out the baffles without removing the black end plate and cutting the pipe just inside the opening. It's not legal,so you might want to buy an aftermarket system instead.
What is exhaustec technology that is used in bajaj motorcycles?

Will a new exhaust system void your warranty?
All the info I have gotten from the dealership is that if you do tamper with the cats but do a dual exiting system then you will not void your warranty.
Why is there white smoke coming from the exhaust?
White smoke from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber. Normally this is a sign of a blown head gasket or cracked head. This is a very serious situation that must be repaired immediately. You must STOP driving this vehicle or you will cause serious engine damage.
What exhaust is best for a 1997 V6 camaro?
V6 engines dont sound as good as a V8. If you start putting exhaust on V6 engines, it will sound bad and it is not recommended by most shops. I prefer a Flowmaster Cat back system, simply because it sounds awesome. Nice rich rumble without being too loud. I've read, however, that the performance increase isn't very much over stock. I think Flowmaster feels differently, though. I've also tried the much more expensive Borla Cat back system. Its much louder, and harsher sounding. Plus, there is an unpleasant reasonance inside the car between 40-50 mph. If performance is what you want, then you should consider the Borla. Also, its stainless steel and guaranteed for life. I've also tried a "dual" exhaust cobbled together at a local muffler shop. The system looked bad, compared to the factory made Borla or Flowmaster. It also rattled and simply wasn't engineered as well as the others.
Will J B weld seal exhaust pipe leaks?
No. It is only efficient up to 500degrees Fahrenheit and most of the exhaust system will normally get hotter than that. You need proprietary exhaust repair material or a professional weld.
Will driving with a blown head gasket damage the car?
Although rare, if it overheats the block could crack. If the coolant and oil mix (keep an eye on the oil condition), it could wipe out the bottom end of the engine. If the cylinder fills with coolant enough and the piston tries to compress the liquid, it could do damage to several parts including twisting the crankshaft. It would be smart to not drive it, but I guess life is all about risks and opportunity costs.
More Information:
I was driving home this afternoon when my car made a terrible noise and was loud. It sounded like it was coming from the engine. When I got home a neighbor( and a mechanic) drove it and said it was a blown gasket. can I drive it until it gets fixed?
I wouldn't drive it until it gets fixed. I might drive it TO get fixed. I am thinking of doing that myself. But it's very serious so don't keep driving it around (if you even can).
it's a nice reason to start hitch-hiking...
What is the cause of white smoke to come from an engine after you change the radiator hose?
White smoke from the exhaust is normally an indication of coolant entering the combustion chamber. Could be a blown head gasket or cracked head.
yes
What causes the inside of a tailpipe to become black?
mixture is too rich, is this carb. or injection? Have it checked.
Some of this discoloration is normal - caused by carbon monoxide.
What causes exhaust engine smoke?
If the smoke is coming from the tail pipe then: Blue smoke is primarily from internal engine wear. If it's constant when the engine is on, then the rings etc are worn and need to be replaced. If it only is blue when the engine is cold or first started, the rings are worn but not gone completely. You get the oil seeping during the night and it burns off when the car is started in the morning. Black smoke is a fuel/air mixture suggestion problems with injection or carburation. Cause of black smoke is due to running rich in the fuel air mix. White smoke can and DOES come from coolant burn off in the oil due to a leaking or blown head gasket, cracked head etc. If you aren't sure or you don't know what you're talking about, don't advise. Wrong advice can be more damaging than the actual problem.
