Odometers

As per info under Driver Information Center (DIC) (Option) on page 2-77 of your "Owner's Manual": To change display to a Metric or English reading, press and hold the RESET & MODE buttons for 3 (three) seconds...

The button on the steering wheel marked "step" changes the odometer to trip 1 and trip 2. You can also reset these 2 different trips to zero as needed. When you press the trip button multiple times, you will also get the outdoor temperature.

It can measure either.

Cars with mechanical gauges are built according to what's used in the country where they're originally sold, and cars with electronic gauges can usually be changed from one to the other.

Most Dodge/Chrysler vehicles with digital odometers store the milage in the engine control computer.

If the odo hasn't been tampered with it'll show the total distance the car has travelled.

Anyone can sell a car with a broken odometer legally by disclosing in the bill of sale that the "true mileage is unknown". Contact your local DMV - some states (I believe California is one of them) which forbids any car to be sold, or operated without a functioning odometer.

Next to your battery you will see a triangle shaped cover with 3 screws in it, remove that to access wiring, fuses, etc.

you must first ck the engine battery system also you must ck the battery cables to be sure they or not dirty at the battery !!! if at all else fails take small hammer too the starter by tape on the starter and have some else turn the key to start at the same time if the engine starts the starter is bad !!!! the battery may need to be taken out to have it ck if so take the battery to a parts house like auto zone they ck the battery for free in most cases.

If the engine cranks, but doesn't turn over, check your fuel pump. Your engine needs three things for combustion (assuming it is a gas engine), and they are spark, air, and fuel.

An odometer measures in kilometers, or miles if the car is relatively old. Millimetres are too small for any registered figures to be meaningful (figures would be a million times what they are presently).

It changes the ratio between the drive differential and the wheels. Your odometer will read high for the distance traveled.

I've recently put my car in for a service with the same problem and they actually hve to remove the whole dashboard to replace the light globe for the odometer reading. so it probably needs 2 go 2 the shop sorry m8

Sounds like the speed sensor on the transmision, or the conector on same. It could also be an under dash fuse. I am not familar with the accord but my civic speed sensor fuse is shared with about four other sensors and the voltage regulator. Hope that helps.

Hi Have you checked to see if the cable has popped out of the back of the speedo? If it appears secure then check under the vehicle to see if it is broken or come loose from the the gearbox. If both ends appear OK then unscrew one end and see if you can turn the spindle inside the cable freely. Sometimes a few squirts of penetrating oil will free it if stuck. If the speedo end spins and gearbox end does not then you may have a broken cable ...time to buy a new one. Take the old one in and get the best match. Good luck!!

First, I would say to take it to the place where you had the car fixed, if that is not an option , you could check if the cable for the speedometer is loose. This is located behind the guage cluster, you should be able to see it if you get underneath the stering wheel, it will be a black thick (about 1/4 of an inch) and it will run through the firewall and into the transmission. Make sure that it is tight at both ends. If that is not it then you might want to replace that cable, you can usually get it at any auto part stores. Hope this helps. Good luck

The odometer stays on for a while so that service personnel have time to record the mileage when, say, getting your oil changed. It uses very little power.

PROBABLY one of the little tiny itty bitty gears has stripped

in a car the odometer tell you how far you have driven. so it's measures how far you've travelled

shift module on side of trans. Mine does same thing and shifts super hard when light not on. Cut off vehicle and crank again until light comes on. Taken mine to shop at least twice and the problem is really sporadic so they couldn't get it to do it and refused to fix it if they couldn't witness the problem which is trustworthy in a shop

Some posts seem to point to the battery as the cause of the problem. Get it checked as this is a low cost fix. Others seem to blame the speed sensor.

General Motors has part #10443718 available from any GM dealer parts department Your local government Department of Motor Vehicles may also be able to provide them. Possibly your auto insurance broker as well.

The problem is in the instrument cluster. It needs to be checked out.

This is a very common problem with these cars as they age. I have seen a number of them where the odometer was blank and/or working intermittently together with the tachometer. The only reliable solution is to get a new one from a dealer.

not trying to make anybody mad but i have the same problem if you take out the cluster then pull off the cardboard from the back there is a small blue resistor it will have a burnt spot where they are you or some one you know could clean it and re solder the contacts i did it and it worked great now hardly any cost to you i hope this works for you Robert
