The only answer i can come up with is to replace with a non American car.

It will usually come on. The speed sensor on my transmission died and it displayed the check engine light.

You could, but your engine will enter 'limp mode'. Simply unplugging it would do the trick.

The O2 sensor is vital for a fuel injected car to determine proper mixture. Without it, the car defaults to a 'best guess' that is usually richer than needed. This will reduce your gas mileage considerably, may make it lurch and stall, and could do other bad things like burn valves. Spring for the O2 sensor. Including buying the socket to fit it, it'll run you between $60 and $150 guessing. $80 is probably about right for the Honda. I think it's a three wire on the accord.

Side note.. you can test an O2 sensor yourself pretty easily.

If it's a heated type sensor, the one wire that's a diff color is usually the signal wire. The sensor actually produces a small voltage while in operation. Keep in mind it needs to warm up to be accurate.. about 600 degrees. Drive the car for 5 min before testing.

With a DIGITAL dvm, test the voltage produced on the signal wire with respect to ground. In circuit it should bounce right around .45 volts. If your getting around 12 volts or 0 volts, you got the wrong wire. When the mixture is rich it will read higher, lean lower. When I say bounce, I mean that it will not stay at .45 volts, but swing wildly up and down around it, but stay close to .45 as the center. The engine is dynamically updating the mixture, causing it to lean out, then go rich alternately and the signal from the O2 sensor will reflect this balancing act. The voltage produce should always stay in the range of .1 volts to .9 volts.

This applys to 1 wire, or 3 wire O2 sensors. The 3 wire versions have a heated coil of wire to get the sensor up to operating temp faster. 4 wire versions I assume have a separate ground for the signal. It may be possible to figure out what goes where by process of elimination. (find the 12 volt, find the 0 volt, the other two are likely the signal wires.)

A Digital voltmeter is required to keep from blowing things up as their input impedence is high enough to not affect the signal.

You can bypass it by simply unplugging it. However, your check engine light will always be on and you won't be able to pass an emmissions test.

Also, if you unplug your oxygen sensor, the car will probably shift harder (if it has an automatic transmission) and it won't shift correctly when you try to accelerate at speeds over 30 MPH (it will downshift too many gears).

You can buy OEM replacement oxygen sensors on the internet for around $80.00. I would recommend NKG or DENSO brands.

Pin 1 is +5V, pin 2 is Ground and pin 3 is the signal. Use analog voltimeter in pin 2 and 3. Crank the engine: the pointer of the voltimeter shoud oscilate in range 0V to 5V.

There are two. To trace these looks for the yellow fire resistant wrapped wires at the firewall at back of engine compartment. The front O2 sensor runns from there to the a point below on the exhaust manifold and seat in just at the "throat" of the Cat converter. The "rear " O2 sensor continues down and is seated "after" the Cat Converter. Gat the O2 sensor removal wrench and open end wrench much like a plummers faucet wrench that will access the O2 sensors. Makes the job that must easeier to remove the O2 sensors.

Both forward O2 sensors need to be replaced at the same time anyway, just replace both forward sensors and don't worry about which is which. You don't replace just the sparkplug that's misfiring, do you? Well, maybe you do, but it's the kind of thing that leaves you constantly working on your car. If one's gone bad the other is close behind.

The car may not be approved at the "car approval station". Maybe you can clean it from soot, it depends on what car you own. EGR= Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is good for the environment.

That is the sensor after the catalytic converter.

general answer is that there is usually one sensor on the exhaust manifold(s) and one sensor behind the catalytic converter.

every car's sensor is 50 ft lbs for trucks and such it varies from 80-110 ft lbs. i would torque it to 55 to be on the safe size but no more because you dont want to strip the threads on your cat

the upstream is located on the exhaust manifold you will see it when you open the hood......the downstream is located on the exhaust pipe under the car just past the engine

actuall, it may depend on the engine you have. on the 3.3 there are 4! one on each side, fairly easy to get to, in the collecter area of the exhast manifold. another on each side after the small catalytic convertor, and before the two pipes come together.these are up behind a frame type crosspiece, and very hard to get to.

Which one? These vans have 4 different O2 Sensors. You should go to the parts store to get a printout of the diagram.

most of the time you will smell a rotten egg smell if its bad, or if you hear a rattling noise coming from your exhaust

the o2 sensor is located at the left side of the engine towards radiator and is the upper o2.

It's on the exhaust manifold right under your hood, at least it is in my 2000 Galant 2.4 L.

Can you show me a diagram of the upstream oxygen sensor on a 3.5l liter Oldsmobile Intrigue engine?

look at where the headers come off the engine. follow this and there should be a rod like projection sticking out with wires running down from it. that is your O2 sensor.

Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine in a Ford Explorer

Sensor 1 would be somewhere in the exhaust before the catalytic converter ( upstream )

Its located behind the intake manifold between pipes 1 & 2 (from the alternator side). do you have a picture of it
