How to replace the tensioner assembly depends on which engine your car has.

If it is the 2.5L 4cylinder engine:

1. The tensioner assembly covers a coolant opening in the block, so you need to drain the coolant to point lower than the bottom of the tensioner assembly.

2. Release the tension on the serpentine belt and move the belt out of the way.

3. The tensioner assembly also is the mounting point for the power steering pump. So to change the tensioner assembly first remove the power steering pump. Be careful to avoid power steering fluid leakage.

4. With the power steering pump off, the tensioner assembly is held onto the block with three screws, remove them.

5. At this point the tensioner assembly should simply pull off. It may be stuck to the block with rtv sealant.

Install the new tensioner:

1. Clean the old sealant off of the block. Be sure to have an adequate bead of rtv on the block or the tensioner to seal against coolant leaks. The last time I replaced one of these there was no mounting gasket, it was all done with just rtv sealant.

2. Mount the new tensioner and tighten the bolts.

3. Reattach the power steering pump. Check the fluid level, refill if necessary.

4. Reinstall the serpentine belt.

5. Top off coolant as necessary, check for leaks.

If your car has the 2.8L V6:

1. Release the tension and remove the serpentine belt.

2. The tensioner assembly is held on by one bolt in the middle of the fixed end. Remove the bolt.

3. Install the new tensioner assembly. be sure it is in the correct rotation. Tighten the bolt.

4. Put the serpentine belt back on.

You are done.

A simple single pulley enables the applied force to change direction. A pulley at the top of a well is the common example.

In many applications, such as the fan belt on a car, it is used to transfer energy from one shaft to another.

To use the OEM 27031 pulley puller, first, ensure the area is clear and safe. Position the puller over the pulley, aligning its arms with the pulley grooves. Tighten the center screw to engage the puller on the pulley, then turn the screw clockwise to apply pressure and gradually pull the pulley off its shaft. Always check the manufacturer's guidelines for specific instructions and safety precautions.

I just paid $111.00 to the local Chevy dealer for a diagnostic, the reason I went to them was because I would get a check engine light for a few days then it would go away. I also am having the hardest time starting it in the morning if it sits off for a day or so.. I would open and close the ignition about 5 times before attempting to crank it, and that would normally start it. They estimated almost $1200.00 to replace the spider injectors and the appropriate seals to put it all back together..

If a power steering pulley is slipping, it is usually the problem with the belt being worn. A person can try a small drop or two of dish soap on the belt so see if that makes it stop slipping or the belt might need to be replaced.

with the correct type of socket and bar for easy access

I had to use a crow bar as a socket wouldn't fit.

I just did this job & visited the dealer. It's not the crank pulley. The mechanic was very helpful & printed out the info. w/pictures. Chilton & Hayes books have lousy pictures of this job. The water pump is on the pulley which appears to be an idler pulley. Most of the work have to be done from underneath the car. The mechanics have a name for it, TJMF.(the Japanese mother f..) The pictures shown are looking up from below, but they don't tell you this.

You just follow the instructions in the book, once you located the pump. Actually this is on my local free library auto service site. Access is with library card No. The same info. is in the books.

The pump has on the discharge side a pipe w/a round seal or oring on it. You need to replace this & put silicone sealer on it. The Japanese have this weird part, called intake manifold stayput which keeps the pipe in place at the other end. In my case there were 3 bolts instead of the 2 the book mentioned. I've removed them & this plate. I've removed the 3 hold down bolts from the pump. Now I could wiggle the pump, so the pipe would separate. Replaced the oring w/sealer. The suction side of the pump was metal to metal flat w/a groove on the pump side. I saw no oring, because this is less pressure. I scraped it clean & put silicone sealer on it & replaced the pump. Made sure the discharge pipe fits in & had to play with it. It worked & put everything back.

Remove the center nut, often you'll need to use an impact wrench so plan on getting other stuff out of the way. Borrow, rent or buy a wheel puller. There should be a couple threaded holes in the dampener pulley for you to connect the puller. The puller should easily remove the dampener pulley for you.

It depends on what you are working on. Some just slide off and some have to be pulled off with a puller.

it's an alone pulley mostly found bulted to engine block. the belt can run under or over it

take serpentine belt off with 15 mm socket-counterclockwise. clockwise to remove bolt, take pulley off and replace with new one. make sure it spins! if it's grinding youre gonna need a new assembly. also, your new pulley may not be factory specs, if so you'll have to get creative by using some washers to tighten it down. put your belt back on according to diagram, and youre good to go.

Best way is use an impact wrench. The cheap way is: 1. remove the MPI relay in the engine bay. 2. Place your socket wrench, preferably breaker bar, attached to the crank pulley bolt, against something sturdy. 3. Tap the ignition for a fraction of a second. This uses the starter to turn the crank against the wrench and the bolt will break free. Reverse is a pain without a impact wrench. 1. Get some clean nylon rope. 2. Remove #1 spark plug. 3. Turn crank in CORRECT direction BDC. 4. Fill the chamber with nylon rope as much as possible (Leave something left to pull it back out when you're done). Make sure the crank is basically immovable. 5. Tighten your crank bolt to the correct spec with torque wrench. I used this method before. Hope it works for you.

Jazz music originated solely in the United States. It is a distinctly and uniquely different style of music. Jazz music can be considered a musical collision of American and African cultures. It evolved out of three centuries of cultural and racial conflicts, meaning a clash of the more subdued dominant culture and the more powerful subculture. Jazz is composed primarily of four musical elements: melody, harmony, rhythm and tone color. However, harmony does not play such a powerful role in the evolving of the music itself. The melody, rhythm and tone color make up the primary elements of jazz.

The varying styles of jazz include the "Work Song." This is mainly a rhythmic song which could be referred to as making hard work easier and to go by faster. These are usually unaccompanied upbeat rhythm songs that are usually repeated over and over, a sort of chanting, to make the time go by faster on the job.

Another style is the "New Orleans." This style began in the 1890's as brass band performances of gospel songs and marches. With this came along the formation of the big bands, such as the great jazz pianist and bandleader William Basie. Mr. Basie's band, known as the Count Basie Orchestra, was famous for the driving beat considered to be the epitome of the swing feel. This style of jazz still exists today and is normally referred to as the original style of jazz. This style is also considered to be ensemble jazz and is known for its polyphonic texture.

The "Chicago Style" of jazz music evolved after 1917. Chicago then became the home of jazz music because of the prohibition in the south. Unemployed musicians moved to the Chicago area playing new sounds and searching for places to play the new, exciting style of jazz. With this style the musicians play popular songs with a more homophobic sound. This is the era when the piano is introduced into the background accompaniments.

"Bebop" came about through and after World War II. Due to an opposition of white establishment, jazz took a turn. It became a fast, but upbeat use of tempos, using elaborate melody and rhythmic patterns. With Bebop, the beat of jazz became lighter. During the later 1940's, Bebop combined dissonance and abstract chording with traditional jazz. This style showed more emphasis on the solo performer.

Later came the style known as "Fusion." This style of jazz reflects back closer to the jazz tradition. Only now the use of electrical and acoustic instruments gives a more modern sound. Jazz popularity grows at this time to a time high due to the use of electrical instruments and the formation of jazz clubs and festivals, directed toward the youth of America.

Jazz music has and will always reflect the artist of the time through the different styles this form of music has taken. Through the years jazz music has changed to meet the needs of changing times and the people's changing taste of music, and for the people's listening enjoyment. Jazz has introduced new sounds and styles to stay afloat in the ever-changing modern world.

The core of jazz music has not changed that much since it began all those many years ago. The framework is still there and always will be. However, the surface will change, as in the different styles that have evolved over the years. The deep down earthy tones, melody and rhythm have made jazz music what it is today and has enlisted memories in all of what it once was.
