Also, the water pump could easily cause an engine to start running hot. Water pumps don't necessarily go completely bad all at once. It could be just starting to go bad, the worse it gets, the hotter the engine will run. Also, if the radiator did indeed need flushing, then understand that the inside condition of the radiator and the water pump will naturaly be the same. So the chances of the water pump going bad would be pretty good. One other possibility could be a crack in a head. If the overheating happens in low city driving only and at highway speeds the egine runs ok, look into the hydraulic radiator( 2000-2002 only) fan. It is possible that the fan is not running at all. Run the engine with the hood open. When the temp gage starts climbing, look at the fan blade to see if it running.
How do you drain the radiator?
Go to Walmart and for about $3 you can buy a cooling system flush kit...it will be in the auto parts section near the antifreeze. There are instructions on the package that will tell you how to do it. It is incredibly easy and takes about 15 minutes.
It is a tool used to straighten the fins of an automotive radiator. Normally used after something has damaged part of the radiator without causing a leak.
How do you bleed the cooling system on a 2001 Lincoln?
Here is the procedure from the factory service manual:
1. Remove the engine fill cap.
On 3.0L engines
2. Open the engine air bleed.
On all engines
3. Open the heater air bleed.
4. Add coolant to the degas bottle allowing the system to equalize until no more coolant can be added.
On 3.0L engines
5. Close the engine air bleed when coolantbegins to escape.
On all engines
6. Replace the degas bottle cap.
On 3.9L engines
CAUTION: Care must be taken to ensure the accessory drive belt does not become
contaminated with engine coolant.
7. Add as much coolant as possible to the engine fill. The heater air bleed will remain open.
8. Replace the engine fill cap.
On all engines
9. NOTE: The heater air bleed remains open.
Start the engine and turn the heater to MAX position.
10. Close the heater air bleed when a steady stream of coolant comes from it, during engine idle.
11. Allow the engine to idle for five minutes, add coolant to the degas bottle as needed to maintain the
cold fill MAX mark.
12. Reopen the heater air bleed to release any entrapped air and close again.
On 3.9L engines
13. Maintain engine speed of 2,000 rpm for 3-5 minutes or until hot air comes from the heater.
14. Return to idle and verify hot air is still coming from the heater.
On 3.0L engines
15. Maintain engine speed of 1,500 rpm for 3-5 minutes or until hot air comes from the heater.
16. Return to idle and verify hot air is still coming from the heater.
On all engines
17. Set the heater temperature setting to 24°C (75°F ) and allow the vehicle to idle for two minutes.
18. Shut the engine off and allow to cool.
19. After the engine has cooled, add coolant to the degas bottle to bring the level to the cold fill MAX
mark.
How much should it cost to repair a radiator leak in a 95 Toyota corolla?
Usually in toyotas, the leak can not be repaired because it is cracked in the plastic.
If you are handy, it is very easy to buy and replace the radiator yourself.*should you do this don't forget the hoses and the thermostat.
The radiator should cost about 100-200 at the most. The average is 120. If you have a mechanic do it, it will usually run you 60-80/ hr. The job doesn't take you an hour.
So some where in the range of 250-350 if you have someone do it?
You have either a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Serious engine dame will occur if this is not repaired. Do not drive the vehicle in until it is repaired. Probably head gasket, intake gasket, cracked head, cracked block, If there is no compression getting into the radiator, you may be able to put one of several stop leak products in the cooling system that may fix it. All of these types have a clear liquid with a copper colored part in the bottom of the bottle. May fix it, may not, but it's only about $8. I have had good luck on head gaskets leaking into the exaust.
most likely a lower manifold gasket -- gm and aftermarket both have change up gaskets, believe it or not but gm is cheaper \
Is there a radiator drain on a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer?
its there....i think its a screw on the very bottom of the radiator..faces the ground if you dont see one disconnect the lower radiator hose
How can you tell when the water pump is bad?
An Automotive Water Pump That Is Bad Will Leak Out The Shaft Where The Pulley Goes. Or The Shaft Will Break Off. Otherwise You Have A Different Problem. Your car will overheat or not even start. You will smell antifreeze and or notice you have to put in alot of fluids. You will see leakage under the pump or around inside of engine compartment. Buy a new one that has a lifetime guarantee and you will rest easier.

How does a cars radiator work?
Hi
The water pump (Just like a heart)pushes the water/antifreeze through the engine block, and through the radiator where the fins in the radiator absorb some of the heat, and the air passing through the radiator cools the fluid down to be pumped back into the engine block, keeping the engine cool enough to drive.
B.H.
Add to radiator - but be careful some of these products will seal the heater core
What is the cheapest way to fix a leaking radiator?
I would say the most inexpensive way to repair this is to get a good used radiator at a salvage yard near you. If you're handy with wrenches you should be able to save yourself some BUCKS $$ going this route.
__
I would buy a new one if I were you. Salvage yard ones have been sitting around with no coolant, rotting. You want to take the chance of destroying your motor? A used one will go bad soon too. Might as well start fresh.
--
Stop-Leak is the cheapest way to fix a small leak, but it is only a temporary measure. If coolant is really gushing out of the radiator, it's best to replace it or have a radiator shop repair it. Trying to cut corners here is like jumping over dollar bills to pick up pennies. BUY A BRAND-NEW VIRGIN, FRESH-FROM-THE-FACTORY RADIATOR!! Most come with a warranty. It is risking severe overheating and possibly blowing a head gasket or destroying your motor. $100.00 for a new radiator is much cheaper than $1000.00 or more to replace a head gasket or a motor.

For a small leak idle engine, top radiator with water crack open a fresh egg and drain into radiator.
this might sound funny but if you cant afford to buy a new one at this time you need it try black pepper in it,works like stop leek and is cheaper, and you can get it anywhere.
Why is there not any pressure in the cooling system?
== == No pressure means a leak (Internal or External) or a bad radiator cap. Try the radiator cap first as it is the easiest to replace. If pressure still fails to build, inspect your system carefully. Look for ANY evidence of moisture on engine components and try to find the leaking gasket. Also be aware that some gaskets can give way inside your engine releasing pressure/ antifreeze into your Combustion chambers and/ or oil reservoirs causing irreparable damage.
Where is the coolant reservoir for a 2002 dodge Dakota?
For the 98 it is right behind the front bumper between the driver side headlight and the radiator. Sorry if this doesn't help.
It would also depend on how cold is cold, 35 degrees F below freezing or 35 degrees F above freezing.
How do you retrieve a freeze plug if it falls into the engine block?
You might be able to fish it out using a section of coat hanger wire or one of those magnets with a flexible handle. Failing this, leave it in the block, as it falls to the bottom of the water jacket where it will pose minimal flow or cooling loss.
Please Note: Most freeze plugs are lead coated brass and are non-magnetic & the freeze plug can block waterflow in the cylinder jacket (water flow will move it around more-so when driving) so I would not suggest leaving it in the block.
Where is the drain plug for the radiator in a 2000 Chevy Malibu?

How do you remove the radiator from a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
As answered to a similarly stated question, this info provides removal and reinstall of new one ...
This one is actually not that tricky. It is ideal to consider replacing the hoses while you are doing this replacement, in addition to using a steel brush to clean up the pullies of the serpentine belt system too. Certainly, you will spend a little more time with that - but it seemed worth the effort.
RE: radiator replacement - first drain the current radiator - the plug in on the lower left side of the radiator. Once you have completed that and the hood has been lifted, there are four (or six) screws that hold the radiator on the top plate above the radiator itself. Unscrew these and set aside for reinstalling the top plate later. Once unscrewed, lift the plate off and then you are looking at the top of the radiator.
Next, there are two hoses that connect to the radiator - one on the top left (as you are facing the engine) and the other is on the bottom right. Disconnect the clamps and hoses from the connections to the radiator. Check the condition of your clamps - if they are in poor condition, invest the few dollars in new ones to prevent a headache later.
When both the top plate and the hoses have been removed from the radiator, it can then be lifted up and taken out of the engine area. This is the time when the serpentine belt becomes visible and the pulleys available to clean while in an unobstructed state.
Now, you are able to reverse the process and place the new radiator in, reattaching the hoses and then the top plate and screws secure it the rest of the way. Of course, lastly - refill with coolant/water mixture. That's it!

Where is the cooling fan relay on a 1996 to 2000 Plymouth Voyager?
The SSFR (Solid State Fan Relay)Cooling fan relay is located on the left front inner frame just behind the radiator.
The radiator coolant fan relay is located on the inside front of the engine compartment near the left headlight assembly. You have to remove the air filter assembly, then look for a simple square relay with 4 wires running into it. It is mounted with 2 screws. It is the only relay at that location. If it has burned, you will need to replace the pigtail wiring harness.
Remove the air box beside the battery a 10 mm bolt and the relay is a four prong square box bolted on the frame with two 8mm bolts
