How do you change the rear shocks struts on a 1997 geo prisim?

You have suspension or steering parts that are loose, broken, or worn out. May also be a loose wheel. This can be a very dangerous situation. I suggest you get this truck on a lift and inspect all the front suspension and steering components before you have an accident. ASAP.

How do you change rear struts on 2001 Hyundai xg300?
First off you'll need a strut compressing tool because I don't think the struts are sold with the spring. It's quite a job. Easier with air tools, but can be done with hand tools. Jack up the rear of your car, remove tire, remove bolts from the trunk area (there should be 2 or 3). There's a bolt on the bottom of the strut that needs to be removed. Then the whole assembly should come out. You may need an extra jack to support the rotor(put a piece of wood on jack so you won't accidentally damage the rotor) when you remove the strut assembly. Then use compression tool to squeeze the big spring. If you go to auto parts store, they can also print instructions that will be more in depth from what I'm typing here. That may be more helpful for you. Good luck. I'd have a buddy helping too. lol.
What causes your mtorhome to begin shaking violently when you hit a bump in the road?
You're very close to wrecking your motorhome. Although you did not say what chassis you have? You have a symptom that means repair is a must. 1. One of your suspension control arms is near failure due to wear. This is a fatigue crack. Near one of the bushings. Replacement is only choice. Welding and reinforcment could be done. But, may still break again. 2. One of the steering control tie rods or other steering component is going out. Replacement needed 3. If, you've strut bars off the lower A-frames to the front of farme? The end bushing could easily be punched right thru frame hole. Stress causes this. That can be repaired with welding and new bushings. It'll hold after that. I've only seen this a few times. One was an old farm truck that would barely stay straight. (steering). One other was a cadillac that was losing it's lower A frame due to a crack. The truck needed no help, like a bump, to shake and squirel all over. The others? Any unsteady road would provoke severe shaking and near loss of control. Letting off gas and a single tap of brakes usually brings things back from the edge of disaster. Any of these you find? Get fixed at once. The safety of yourself and others are VERY much at risk.

A loud thumping noise coming from near the tire after hitting a pot hole could mean there is damage to the rotor. A mechanic may need to look at the vehicle to diagnose the exact issue.

Its actually very simple to replace the truck struts on a Mazda all you need is a Phillips head screw driver and a good pair of vice grips. first you will need to remove the retaining clips on the top and bottom of the gas shock. Then simply use the screw driver to pry off the gas shock insert the clips from the old gas shocks then using a plastic hammer pop the new gas shocks onto the mounts on the deck lid and body of the car.

How do you remove and replace rear shocks?
Jack up the rear end and support it. With the weight on the axle you take the nuts loose on each and and replace the shocks. The shocks keep the rear axle from dropping down and letting the springs come out. As long as the axle is off the ground and supported you shouldn't have any problem.
How do you change the rear struts on a 1989 Olds Regency 98?
Oh, not THAT hard.
1. Go into trunk and remove rear speaker covers. Held by two black snap caps. They just twist off. Why? To get at the two bolts at top of sturt tower. Then lay on your back and just LOOSEN the two 13mm nuts on each tower. Don't pull off yet.
2. With a floor jack (NOT your car jack) raise car a bit and lossen tire lug nuts. Have at least one jack stand ready. Raise car and remove tire.
3. Raise car and place jack stand under lower A frame. Just past ball joint is a good spot. Lower car to just rest on stand.
4. IF equiped, remove air line to strut. Squeeze loop at top of clip to remove. Then air line just pulls off. While you still have clip and air line in hand? Reset clip and slip it back into the slots at air line end. Set air line aside.
5. Your brake drum may come off. Just put it aside.
6. I don't know the exact metric size. But, I found a 15/16in box end wrench and 1/2in drive socket work dandy. But FIRST off, brush off the area where the two large bolts attach the strut and chassis. Spray with bright paint and let dry. This is important. Because you'll wish to place the new strut in same position. Then place the box end wrench on the bolt head and socket with breaker bar on nut. Loosen nut and remove each first. Use any plastic hammer and tap out bolts. Notice that the chassis wiggles once loosened. That's because the lower bolt hole is an oval.
7. After bolts are out. Raise car just enough to tap back the old strut off the mount. Then go back in trunk and pull those two 13mm nuts. Raise car and remove strut.
8. BUT, you're not done yet. I hope you've a vise. Take old strut to vise and place in. You need the 15/16 box wrench and one of 3 other tools. A 3/8in drive torx bit. Or, an Allen wrench, Or, a very good crecent adustable wrench. Remove largee nut at end of strut and remove the two bolt upper mount plate. Note how it's positioned.
9. You can now junk old strut and place new one into vise. Install mount plate.
10. Now installation is reverse of removal. Hold new strut in position and just lightly thread the 13mm upper nuts back on. Slip lower mount into position and place bolts in. Lower car a tad to assist if you have to. JUST snug down nuts and position new strut to match up your marking paint. Then and ONLY then tighten bolts up. As tight as possible. I've no torque spec. But, I just used 80 ft. lb. as ballpark. Tighten upper nuts. And the rest is easy easy.
Good luck. Just finished all 4 struts this past weekend 3/28/09 on my own 89 Olds 98. These are well done cars.

Why does car squeak over bumps?
Replace all 4 ball joints for less than $20 a piece. you'll probally be charged less than $125 to put them on. total $205
I assume you asked about it doing it turning also. Ball joints can't be the problem in both cases. Turning may just be the tires on the pavement. Squeaking on bumps could be a dozen different things in the front end depending on the type of squeak and how loud. Type of car, front or rear wheel drive makes a difference also.

How do you replace the rear struts on a 1991 Toyota Camry?
Need a coil spring compressor or access to one and some basic hand tools. Go to the library and get a repair manual if possible, that will at least get u a basic knowledge of what u are looking at. then, u will need to find out if u have the rebuildable strut or sealed strut. if strut is part of the spindle, u will need the rebuildable unit. if strut comes off of the spindle, u have the sealed type. when u are ready to perform the changeover, make sure u have proper tools, jack stands, floor jack, and use the buddy system, be safe. My recommendation is to take to a shop and have performed for u. Good luck

Why is my 2003 Chevrolet avalanche putting up a code reading check brake system?
There may be a problem with your braking system. Electronically, you are most likely getting a code from the ABS system. Have the brakes inspected by a professional. It might be as simple as a bad ABS sensor or a lose wire, but it might be something more. You won't know for certain until it is checked over.
If the brakes have been checked and everything checks out fine, reset the computer by disconnecting the battery at the negative terminal, wait five minutes, reconnect. If the code appears again, then there is probably a fault somewhere still in the braking system.
Good luck.
