How do you time a 1994 350 Chevy?

get number one cylinder t.d.c. TOP DEAD CENTER .look at you rotor button which ever way its pointing will be your number 1 plug wire. then counter clock wise from 'one' place the plug wires on the cap.put the wires on the correct plug according to your firing order"should be on the intake" then line your marks up on the harmonic balancer and the timing tab on the block by rotating the motor by hand. you want your mark to line up with the lowest gap on the tab. this is the zero mark. now go to your fire wall and find the wiring harness. there is a timing advance wire with a male/female plug -in on it. un plug this and hook up your timing light. crank the motor and check to see if your timing marks line up on the balancer. if not get someone to rotate the distributor cap until your mark is on zero. rotating the cap c.c.w advances your timing, and c.w retards it. now that you are on the zero mark turn the truck off. plug the timing advace wire back in and lock your distributor down. you are ready to go!

When do you change timing belt on a Saturn sl2?

You don't. In its time, one of the competitive advantages of the Saturn S-Series was that it doesn't have a timing belt. It has a timing chain. It can last several hundred thousand miles, provided:

* you CHANGE the oil every 3000 miles (you can go up to 4000 miles if you use a QUALITY synthetic oil

* you CHECK the oil EVERY time you buy gas. These engines burn oil, so you should keep it topped up * you use a good quality oil, and don't use any of those funky oil additives.

The good thing is, unlike a timing belt, that just snaps when its time has come, the timing chain will give you plenty of audible warning as it's reaching the end of its service life. You'll hear a lot of noise, not unlike "rod knock" noise, around the area of the timing chain.
