Air Filters and Intake Manifolds

Air filters are devices that remove solid particles such as dust, mold, and bacteria from the air. Used in building ventilation systems and engines, they contain an intake manifold that is primarily tasked to optimize the system/engine’s performance and efficiency.

Where is the map sensor on a2000 accent?

The map sensor on a '00 Accent GS is on the intake manifold above the fuel injectors about midway across the engine. It's s little black box with a screw on each side and a harness coming off of it. Go to hmaservice.com and look up your car. (a 2000 is an Accent LC) then look under Fuel System, Engine Control System, Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP). Good Luck!

Can you re-torque intake manifold bolts to stop a leak?

I did just that today on my son's 2000 Saturn SL1. It had a slight miss at idle speeds. After re-torqe the miss seems to be gone. I think he had a slight vacuum leak. Understand, I am no master mechanic. To have a new intake gasket installed by a mechanic would have run around $500. I figured that I had nothing to loose by trying. It seems to have helped and maybe solved the problem. I'm also going to run some fuel cleaner through the system. I'm sure that some dirt seeped past the leak. Make sure you don't tighten the nut so tight that it brakes.

Sincerely,

Please feel free to contact me by e-mail if this helps!

Would a bad manifold gasket cause gross vacuum leak at the intake?

Yes. If an intake manifold gasket was not installed properly or has somehow become damaged the engine will pull air through the opening.

How do you repair intake manifold leaks?

Replace the manifold gaskets.

Word to the Wise: It would help to know what caused the leak. Bolts not tightened in correct pattern or torque, or just old age? Also, if manifold is aluminum, don't gouge the gasket mounting surfaces, only smooth w/ the yellow fingers tool you can get from SnapOn, or use fine sandpaper and a sanding block. Don't polish the surfaces either, or the gasket will slip or blow out.

What are the torque specs for the upper and lower intake in a Chevy Venture?

Answer

If this is the V-6, then you must have a common problem...lower intake leaks coolant.

The torque spec for the lower manifold is:

First pass: 60 inch pounds

Second pass: 110 inch pounds

Last (outer bolts only): 18 foot pounds

Upper intake is a total 88 inch pounds in at least two steps.

What is the correct procedure to replace the intake manafold and heads on a ZZ4 Chevy 350?

Same as a standard small block , just do every thing carefully and use good intake manifold gaskets or you,ll get a vacuum leak. Just follow a manual carefully, it's not hard to do ,make sure everythings clean and done correctly. Invest in A Chilton, or haynes manual which you can pic-up at any parts store) auto zone, O'rilleys, ect) Then it will be a snap. Basicly you will take off your carb & Distributor when changing your Intake mannifold. The heads well I havent done those yet but I dont think much eles has to be removed now you may want to take some other parts off but that would be just to make life easier. For example I had to jack my engine up when replacing the oil pan and I removed the fuel pump to make it easier on myself. Granted I had to replace the fuel pump gaskets but it was worth it to me.

How do you solve a fault code ff23 rich exhaust detected on a 1994 jaguar xjs conv should you replace the o2 sensor or am i on the right track?

There are several things to check most of the time you will need to replace the catalitic converter, this is common enough that the dealer still stocks the parts, also the upstream and down stream sensors must be calibrated after you replace the cat. BE VERY CAREFUL not to confuse the o2 sensors when thay are removed,

How do you get a bolt that has been broke off in the intake out?

The best way is to use a drill bit for metal and drill a small hole in the bolt. then use an extractor to back the broken bolt out.

Why does a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire engine turn but wont start unless you floor the gas pedal?

Probably a leaky FPR diaphragm or bad MAP sensor reading.

If bad FPR diaphragm replace the fuel pressure regulator. This will also fix the misfiring, excessive fuel consumption, catalytic converter burning up, and rapid engine wear.

If MAP sensor, replace sensor and/or hose to sensor. May also fix: check engine light on, hesitation on acceleration.

How do you replace the 2003 Ford Focus air filter when the screws to the airbox just spin instead of come off?

I have had the same problem with my 2003 Focus. I have heard from a couple garages that this is a common issue with the Ford Focus air filter box and cannot simply be fixed. The air box will have to be replaced. I have been quoted around $400.00 for the work, but I'm pretty sure there are better deals out there. The part is just molded plastic and I'm sure it's not that difficult to swap out. For the meantime I drilled out the bad screws and have the box secured with duct tape.

How do you replace cabin filter Ford Focus 2005?

fordThe cabin filter on the Focus is located underneath the plastic cowling on the passenger side at the base of the windshield and under the trailing edge of the hood. There are both screws and clips holding this piece of plastic in place and one must be very careful when removing them. An oil change technician broke my cowling doing the change. The piece of plastic only needs to be lifted enough to remove either the filter or the plastic grid that may be in it's place. The grid does not go back in with a filter. It is either one or the other. Most Focuses didn't come from the factory with a filter, but the spot for it is still there. It was a factory option. More detailed instructions and photos of the replacement process can be found on the Internet.
