Air Filters and Intake Manifolds

Air filters are devices that remove solid particles such as dust, mold, and bacteria from the air. Used in building ventilation systems and engines, they contain an intake manifold that is primarily tasked to optimize the system/engine’s performance and efficiency.

Will pouring gas into your air intake on a petrol car boost RPM's for a few seconds?

Yes it would but it's not a good idea. If done in excessive amounts it may cause the O2 sensors to send confusing signals to the ECM (Engine Control Module) and trip the check engine light to illuminate. Also, the excess fuel could do some damage to the catalytic converter(s) if done in excessive amounts.

Where is the blower resistor on a 2000 Olds Intrigue?

It is under the dashboard against the firewall. You have to remove the blower motor first by folding yourself up into a ball, but it can be done.

Why wont my upper intake manifold rest on my lower intake 98 GMC 5.7 350 k2500 It seams like the upperintake wont go down around the spider injection housing?

Be sure the O-ring gasket around the spider housing is new, on correctly and lubricated with oil. Also lubricate the opening in the upper intake where the spider is inserted. It should fit firmly.

How do you replace the air filter in a Aztek?

Have the dealer or other service tech do it for you. You have to REMOVE the band-clamped duct to access the filter housing(if it's the same as a 2002). Then you have to try and get it back on! I just attempted this yesterday and what a knuckle-buster it turned out to be. One part of the duct has an out-of-view tab that needs to be correctly re-inserted and I also had major trouble re-installing duct connection to filter housing. I will never attempt this again. Worst filter exerience I have ever had. Will have service tech check this out as I am uneasy that I have reclamped duct back to housing securely. Not worth the time spent or money saved.
Its really not that bad :) It can be a pain in the A but it can be done. I was able to undo the top clips and pull it away enough to slide the filter down in there. IT can be difficult to some and easy for others. Just be sure to get it put back together correctly. doesnt hurt to try it once, might be glad to save the 20 bucks from the repair place or make you willing to spend it. Good luck :) Answer 3 I just did this. My hands are still dirty while i am typing this. This is not too painful of a job. The air filter box cover has to swivel up, out and off at the top of the duct. The complete ducting and MAF stayed connected to the airbox cover. Be sure to keep old filter buried in its place so that it does not get in the way of swivelling up the air box cover. 1- Disconnect two electrical connectors to MAF and upper duct. Disconnect vacuum like hose at top of duct. (it pops up) 2- Loosen top duct clamp. I loosened the other two also, even though it may not be needed. 3- Compress the ducting while twisting the airbox cover up. At this point mine just popped off. 4- Swap the filter. 5- Reverse order, reconnect wires and hose. Start car to check for leaks. Ta-Daa!

How do you repair the intake manifold gasket on a Mazda Protege 1999?

You drain coolant, mark and remove all hoses.

Remove 8 bolts or so for intake.

Pry intake back one inch or so, so just over studs.

Scrape the old intake gasket off.

Slip new intake gasket on.

Tighten and torque the bolts.

Add coolant, that was drained off.

Verify the fix by checking engine vacuum at idle...15PSI, and steady.

Why must the inlet valve close just after BDC?

To get more fuel-air mixture into a four stroke engine the intake valve stays open to get some added benefit from Newtons third law of motion acting on the fuel-air mixture.

How do you fix 95 Saturn SL1 from leaking coolant?

Wow! That last answer of duct tape and bubble gum was not funny and still not a proper answer. 1st, like on any car, you need to find out where it is leaking. Leaking hoses? You need to change the hose. What ever you do don't duct tape it. The only time you should use duct tape is if you are on the road and need an emergency fix, then by all means tape away. Same thing with radiator and some other components. If the leak is towards the back of the engine compartment (towards the back of the car) or more likely in the passenger side of the car, it is your heater core. Easy diagnosis, hard replacement. You'd need to disassemble the dash to get to it. Quick fix for heater core but could cause high temps and slight possibility of overheating is to bypass the heater core. Another possibility is the leak is from the engine, this is not good, could be many problems, water pump, gaskets, head gasket. If you find the leak, describe what you see (hose, connection) and you'll get a better idea of what you need to do. Hint, clean out the engine compartment 1st.

How much will it cost to replace a deployed air bag on a 1995 Nissan sentra?

I just got a quote from a local body shop to replace both airbags in a 97 Sentra. It could go as high as $2058 if the Controller also has to be replaced, they said. Now, I found on Ebay both the dirver and passenger side airbags, used, for $50 each plus shipping, guaranteed. Further, I found MyAirbags.com who can reprogram or reset the error codes in the controller to eliminate the Airbag Warning light. It takes some mechanic skills, some special tools (low cost and available at Napa) some accurate documentation, and you must carefully follow several precautions to get the job done. But, I'll get it done for under $250, not $2000. Hope this helps

What is involved in swapping out a 1982 Camaro 350 5.7 throttle body injection for a carbureted 350 5.7?

You have to get rid of the in tank fuel pump and either sump the tank or buy an in tank style pickup. Buy a mechanical fuel pump with 6psi or less or get an electrical pump and a regulator. If its got an auto behind it with a TV cable you have to make a bracket for that on the carb. You need a different distributor, something like an HEI. Other than that it just bolts right in. Check out www.thirdgen.org its a great source of info if you need more.

Where is the diesel filter located on a rover 220 DT?

What is the horsepower of a 92 Camaro RS with a 305 V-8 cold air intake new exhaust and with a transmission that was rebuilt to Corvette specifications and what does that mean anyways?

Stock motor is 170 hp. Good shorty headers and exhaust and cold air intake would bump that up to around 200hp. If you only have cold air intake, it's probably 175-180 hp. A high flow muffler alone is good for about 10 hp. Corvette specifications for the transmission probably means that a corvette 2nd servo piston was added to the transmission. It makes the 1-2 shift a little firmer.

Where under the hood is the air filter found for a 2003 Toyota Siena?

The engine air filter is on the driver side and is easily replaced. The cover is hinged on the left, and 2-pressure clamps on the right that can be done by hand pressure alone.

Why would a kawasaki 400 kaps prairie blow oil out the air filter?

A Kawasaki KFX 400 Prairie blowing oil out of the air filter could indicate several issues, such as excessive crankcase pressure due to a clogged breather system or worn piston rings that allow oil to escape into the combustion chamber. Another possibility is a malfunctioning or improperly installed oil separator, which can lead to oil being forced into the intake system. Additionally, overfilling the engine with oil can cause it to be expelled through the air filter. Regular maintenance and checks are essential to identify and resolve these problems.
