How do you remove a spring off the valve without taking the head off the block?
You dont. You could technically take off the e-clip and put a socket over the top of the spring and hit it with a hammer. this will rapidly compress the spring and push out the 2 retainers and free the spring, but the valve will fall into the cylinder chamber, so youd have to take the head off anyway.
Actually, to do it without taking head off mainly depending on how much room you have you go to the auto parts store and they have a little hose you hook to your compressors air line, it screws down in place of spark plug, before you do that put a screw driver down in the spark plug hole and make sure the piston is at top dead then put your hose in an make sure there is air flow first I had to fix one where they used a hose where the center pin was still in their hose like for filling tires so no air was coming out and soon as retaining clips came off he heard tink, valve was down in engine. Anyways, with the right hose ( you can use a hose from an engine compression checker just again you have to take the little pin out of the center) the valve springs can be taken off without removing heads.
The air is drawn in through the vents in the front of your windshield. The filter keep dirt, dust and junk from entering your air-conditioner and cabin when you turn on a fan. I usually get between 50 and 60,000 miles between changes. On my 2003 4Runner and my 2008 Tundra it's located right behind the glove box. I don't know where yours is located but I'll bet it's in the same place. Instructions usually come with a new cabin filter so check the box.
Does air-filter size matter on carburetor engines?
Yes.
Airflow through the filter is determined by area and resistance. The bigger the filter area, the smaller the amount of air that has to pass through each part becomes. With a big filter area, and each part only having to let through a little air the air flow through the filter can be bigger. And allowing more air into the engine can make it run better.
What is the upper and lower intake manifold bolt torque setting on GM 3800 series 2?
Ignore the specs. Work inside to out, tightening a little at a time. Should take you 6 or 7 runs through. Make them tight, but dont force them. I tightened to specs and had horrible leaks. With this method, perfect.

How do you replace an intake gasket on a 98 GMC jimmy?
A service manual is needed especially for tightening the intake manifold bolts back into place in the correct pattern. There are many steps, starting with releasing the pressure in the fuel system and disconnecting the battery. Then you need to remove the throttle body, fuel lines, electrical connections, etcetera to get to the intake manifold. Once the manifold is removed you will be looking into the lifter valley of the motor, make sure to vacuum out any residue and stuff with rags to scrape any old gasket surface off, but do not scratch anything up. The manual will help you determine where to run your sillicone, and when you put the manifold back into place you'll want to hit it dead on to avoid having to move it around. You'll then tighten the bolts on in the pattern indicated to the torque needed. You will need an inch lb. torque wrench. When you get it all back together it's good to leave the key in the on position to get some fuel back in there before you fire er up.

Does the 2008 Mercury Sable have a cabin air filter?
Today (6/20/12) after my CARMAX 52,000 Maintenance was completed I had a note on the invoice that my cabin air filter was dirty and needed replacement. I asked why they did not replace it and was told they did not carry the part. I checked on line for the filter and received information that the part number was PC5082 for the 'Cabin Air Filter - 1996 - 2008 Mercury Sable' $6.99. I called my local Ford Dealter 'Liberty Ford 410-655-2000' to see what the cost of the part and installation was and was told that the 2008 Mercury Sable does not have a Cabin Air Filter. So your guess is as good as mine.

What happens to engine if intake manifold is not torqued properly?
because it is
The prior answer is incomplete at best.
An Intake manifold for an engine is torqued to specifications that guarantee there are no leaks of vacuum, oil, or water from being ingested into the engine.
The seal on the intake manifold is critical to the eventual operation of the engine and it's correct mixture.
That being said, the torque or just the tightness needs to be sufficient for a seal and may function well if it is sealed even if it is not torqued, but it is not recommended.
As a side note, many torque values on cars are given because they had to specify something, not necessarily because it is 'critical'.

Why is there air in the Eheim pro 3 filter?
Sometimes the filter has trapped air because there is some air bubbles inside near the top - you may be able to clear this by gently jiggling your Eheim.
Also check to make sure that no bubble wands, stones, or discs are near the intake as this will force air into the system as well.
If you have a manual prime lever on your Eheim, give it a few pushes to see if this helps clear the trapped air
