Castrol Syntec. I recommend when switching to synthetics from conventional, that you run a synthetic blend for 6,000 miles (two oil changes) then change to full synthetics. If you have no experience with changing oils (especially changing from conventional to synthetics) I do not recommend you attempt this.

I had that problem on the freeway outside of Boise in my '85 4000s. Turned out it was the distributor, which had shattered on the inside. Other than that, I'd check the EFG valve.

First, remove your left front wheel. Then remove the left front fender liner by taking out the torx screws. Now you will see the funky shaped reservoir. It has three mount bolts: 2 behind fender liner, one under hood by the fill point. You will need to pull the two fluid pumps and the fluid level detector out of the reservoir. If it wasn't empty, it is now :). Installation is same in reverse.

Seriously, the Audi people have announced that full synthetic oil is the best thing to avoid sludge buildup in the 1.8 engine, and have rethought the 10,000 mile interval, in favor of 5,000. There is supposedly a series of technical service bulletins covering approved oils, change intervals, and the mysterious eight year unlimited sludge warranty. If you have sludge problems, get together all of your oil change receipts, as Audi will not consider honoring a warranty on sludge repairs without proof of oil changes at the recommended intervals.

Also, be sure that an Audi filter is used, or at least a large capacity filter. I had an oil change at Midas, and the filter they used ($2.95) was undersized, and resulted in the awakening of a sleeping sludge problem.

SLIDE A NAIL (APPROX.3 IN. LONG) IN EACH HOLE UNTIL IT STOP. USE BOTH HANDS TO GRAB NAILS, SQUEEZE TWO NAILS ON THE LEFT TOGETHER SLIGHTLY AND DO THE SAME ON THE RIGHT SIMOTANIOUSLY AND PULL RADIO FROM THE DASH. THE NAILS ARE USED FOR RELEASE PINS AND HANDLES. I HOPE THIS WORK FOR YOU, IT DOES ON OLDER MODELS. GOOD LUCK.

You need a tool mostly used on ford cars that turns the piston while pressing it.

If you checked the pressure with the sending unit in the car, it is possible the sending unit itself may be bad!
