Brake Fluid and Lubrication

if your brake fluid is low, you probably need to replace your brake pads. If your pads are good and you fluid is low, you have a leak somewhere. By replacing your pads, the brake fluid level will rise to the proper level. If you add fluid now, then replace your pads, brake fluid will leak out the top of your fluid reservoir and most likely eat the paint off what ever it spills on. Brake fluid and car paint DO NOT MIX.

The master cylinder contains the reservoir for the brake fluid. This is where you would add it on an 1990 Cutlass Supreme.

probably a rust brake line i am having the same trouble and one of the steel lines is busted

none is used to prepare it, it is antifreeze!

1)Look for a wet spot where the master cylinder connects to the brake booster. In most cars, this is where the the brake fluid usually leaks. The brake fluid will eat away the paint on the brake booster. If it is wet here, the master cylinder needs replacing. When the master cylinder is removed, you'll see that it is wet (should be dry) where it was connected to the booster. 2)Check all 4 brakes and look for wet spots on the calipers & wheel cylinders. Same things apply here. Replacement might be needed. 3)Check where the brake hoses/lines connect to the brakes.

At the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir located driver's side next to the firewall on top of the master cylinder. Use DOT 3 fluid.

If the fluid is full then you have an electrical, or switch problem. You will need to have a service manual if you are going to diagnose yourself.

It would depend on how long the Power Steering fluid has been in there. If this happen just recently you may be able to suction the fluid from the Master Cylinder . I think it would be best to remove the master and replace it, it appears that the steering fluid may have reacted with the rubber on the plunger in the master cylinder.

If this is a dual system , after you replace the master you will have to bleed the entire system to be absolute that there are no other failures of rubber parts in the system. There is always a quick fix but they usually are quick to get you in trouble. When dealing with brakes take no chances, everything is riding on them!!
Hey Buddy, you screwed up BigTime. Don't just bleed the Damm brakes. Flush the Entire System with Fresh Brake Fluid since what you put in there is like mixing Steak Sauce with Cinnamon and Nutmeg to make French Toast!! and expecting it to work! Please watch what you are Doing or else Pay The Price for carelessness. The chemical mixtures are Very different and Brake Fluid should be changed at least every 2 years since it absorbs water from the air. Power Steering Fluid is an entirely different mixture that performs entirely different designed for tasks. Good Luck!!

Because your tires are vital to your safety.Apart from regular air leaks,a number of things can go wrong with tires and you should look at them frequently for bulges or warps.

Remove as much fluid from the Civic brake fluid reservoir as possible, using a syringe, turkey baster, etc.. Open the wheel bleeder valves and let the lines drain. Refill the system with new fluid and bleed the lines to finish the fluid change.

In the brake fluid reservoir, if you can't find it, look in your book, or follow the fluid lines from underneath your car to the reservoir. A further clue is that the brake pedal arm and brake pedal, the one that you put your foot on to operate the brakes, is connected directly to the brake fluid reseviour, so look at the firewall amd see where the pedal arm comes into the engine compartment, thru the firewall.

try checking if the brake pads are worn down. this may be the reason or you may just have a faulty sensor. either way take it to meineke or some kind of professional mechanic

Do you mean the clutch master cylinder or transmission fluid? They both will be under the hood, the clutch master cylinder will more than likely be on the drivers side near the dash and will say what type of fluid to put in (dot 3) and will say clutch master cylinder. Just open the plastic cap when the fluid is cool and fill to the fill line. I believe as long as the brake fluid says dot 3 or whatever type you need it's okay to use. As for transmission fluid, do NOT use brake fluid for that, buy regular transmission fluid

get on driver seat & look for two things.

1st: Check button (located on indicator stick)

2nd: reset button (small black stick button located on left side of the speedometer)

Move the key to the ON position where all the lights turns ON but the car doesn't start. Push & hold the reset button until you see the service icon appears. Now press the check button couple of times until you see the brake fluid icon. Once the brake fluid icon appears press & hold the reset button again until the RESET icon appears. As soon RESET icon appears press & hold the reset button again until you see the new milage.

Brake fluid for the Caravan is labeled as a "DOT 3" fluid.

More than likely DOT3. The correct fluid is listed in your owner's manual and on the top of the master cylinder cap.

It is the pan on the bottom of the trans and should have a tube going down to it from the engine compartment on the rear of the engine. The transmission dipstick has a bright yellow handle on it. Find it on the drivers side of the car near the back of the engine compartment. You can add transmission fluid down the tube. Only use ATF +3 automatic transmission fluid. Never Mercon, Dexron or "Universal Fluids". Or else!
