Why does your Jaguar engine stall?
I was told by my Jaguar dealership that it can be either "a clogged breather tube can cause that to happen, but it can also be an issue with the throttle body."
try replacing the throttle positioning sensor AND the low idle air sensor
Why would a car stall when braking if the fuel pump filter and gas tank are OK?
i asume that when you say "fuel pump filter" you mean the filter for the pump and the filter after the pump are fine. ther is a few possiable answers to this question. 1 if your car is carby you might need to get a carby gasket kit and change all the gaskets. 2 if it is EFI your injectors may be dirty and clogged up. 3 how does it idle smooth or rough? idle may be set to low. 4 or if it is a with abig brake booster putting your foot on the brake could cause it to suck to much away from the intake in effect suffercating the engine.
Has the fuel filter been replaced?
What could the problem be if your car will start up then cuts off?
how long does it run before it cuts out? If it runs for about 5 or 10 minutes and won't start again until it is cold it could be the crankshaft position sensor. If it runs for a few minutes, sounds more like a ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor.
possibly bad fuel pump
AnswerOur 03 is in for this sort of problem, died on my wife while three hours from our house, ouch. Anyhow, tech says the crankshaft positioning sensor is bad ~$130.00 parts/labor.My 2002 had the same issue. A Body control module(computer) had to be replaced that controlled the crankshaft postioning sensor. $300! or so they said :( I don't trust mechanics!
2 weeks ago my 2002 Saturn vue was idling up by it self took it in mechanic said that my front axel crank shaft was crack Thursday just past he said you could come an pick up your car all finished. Picked it up on Thursday my daughter and myself were almost killed in the car because it excellerated on its own into rush hour traffic. I pulled over called them they say to bring back on Tuesday after the holiday went to drop off so that it is already there car did the same thing and completely died engine was shaking and everything now. Now it has now power nothing.
AnswerI second the vote for crank position sensor. If it won't start until it cools off, that means the problem is a sensor. When the engine is cold, the computer is not using sensors. When it warms up, the computer starts using sensors.
Where is the pcv valve on 91' s-10 blazer located?
I have a 91 s-10 blazer. It is located on the left side valve cover. It will have a single hose from PVC to the front of your carb. Ed
What would make a 1989 Volvo 760 turbo stalls whenever it stops?
I'm having a very similar problem with my 1988 Volvo 760 with the B230F/T engine.
We troubleshot the problem down to the ignition system.
We have tested the car as best we can with this intermittent problem and feel it is either the impulse sender in the distributor cap (Volvo repair shop says is most replaced part involved in this problem), the power stage or the ignition ECU.
If it would just fail consistently we could figure out which is the actual problem.
Now in case your problem is different than mine (It seems it is, somewhat, as mine stalled "SOMETIMES" when it stopped and also would have two other symptoms - it would have a momentary loss of power that would be revealed as a brief dip in RPM and a slight lurch or a more lingering similar loss that would see the RPM drop to zero and would be similar to downshifting in a manual to save your brakes, but it would recover.) you need to go back to basic troubleshooting:
Air
Fuel
Spark
Check your idle speed. Make sure your air filter is good and your air/fuel mixing is not having problems like with a stuck butterfly valve. See if you've got any loose vacuum lines. Could your fuel filter be clogging? Is your fuel pump weak? Dirty injectors? Have you done a tune up (plugs, wires and maybe distributor cap & rotor) lately? Check your timing.
I decided to do a tune-up starting with plugs and wires. When I went to take the #1 wire off it came apart in my hands! (I bought this car 2nd hand and haven't had it that long. The wires LOOKED good, but clearly they were not.)
Does it run rough in idle?
Anyway, that should get you started. If you have any manuals they have other suggestions (Chiltons, Haynes)
I had a similar problem with my 88 760 Turbo Wagon...it turned out to be the fuel pump which was beginning to fail and overheat at low flows which were caused by a failing pressure regulator (not bypassing enough fuel). This combination of failing parts worked well under load, but as soon as I got off the gas, it would stall - cool down - restart and run fine - so long as I was not idling.
Hey tom its a 1990 pontiact transport van and it starts out fine and as soon as the vehicle warms up it will stall it will start back up but when you put it in gear from park it stall again until cool?
How do you tell if the throw out bearing is going out or gone out on a 1997 Honda civic?
There will be a disticnt noise when you push in the clutch! litsen carefully as it is easy to mistake the noise for something else! Anyways push it in and out and listen for any changes in sound!if no changes in sound i would be lead to assume that your bearings are fine!
Why would your 1997 Pontiac grand am die while driving?
Please give more info. IE: Can the car be started immediately after it dies or does it take a few min? How often does this happen? Is it affected by hot or cold weather conditions? Have you checked the gas cap (loosened it) for vapor locks?
Why is the Alternator light on in your VW Beetle?
One of the functions of the alternator regulator is to compare the alternator output with the battery voltage. If there is a problem it puts the light on. Either the battery is overcharging or undercharging or there is an broken earth(ground) cable/strap connection between the bodywork and the engine. Start with the easy and end with the difficult. Take it slow and follow the safety rules in your manual. After every stage, make safe then see if the fault has cleared.
If you have access to one, connect a DC voltmeter or battery tester across the battery. With the engine running there should be a reading of about 13-14.5 volts. It won't be, but should be later. Switch the engine off.
A physical inspection (prod/poke/pull) is always a good place to start. If nothing else you will get to know what the engine bay looks like with everything in place and with the covers off. Whilst looking around check for wiring that comes close to the engine and make sure the insulation hasn't been rubbed/melted away. If all the connections are good and the alternator drive belt is tight, go for the next easiest bit.
Check the connections on the battery and (if not sealed for life) check the battery acid level in each cell, top-up as necessary with distilled/denatured water. If you need to clean the battery connections remove the negative one first. Remove, clean and replace the positive connection then clean and replace the negative connection. A battery has a nominal life of 3 years. Much depends on whether it does a lot of starting/short runs, the climate and range of temperatures it has to endure. In fact, while the battery is disconnected you should take it to your local shop or battery place and get them to test it; normally for free. Also, while the battery is disconnected, check out the cleanliness and security of the cables on the back of the alternator. If the battery is good, the drive belt is tight and the earths are good the only things left are the alternator and loom wiring.
The alternator is a tricky beast and not that easy to diagnose if you don't have the right tackle. Remove it (follow the book) and take it to an auto electric shop/repair facility for testing. If it needs repair they will either sell you the bits, repair it for you or give you an exchange deal on a new or refurbished unit. You could take a chance on one from a breakers but there are no guarantees. On any repair the biggest cost is always labor. Doing it yourself saves money, skins your knuckles and satisfies your soul. You probably won't be able to get the parts at trade cost but you will still get discounts to put a smile on your face. The good news is these faults are rarely loom wiring, they are either connections or big swap out bits.
OpinionWarning LightsWhen warning lights turn on [except during starting when the key is in the "start" position] indicates that there is something wrong in that system.
It cannot tell you what is wrong, only that something is not right, and...
You need to have a qualified automotive technician to troubleshoot the electrical system, identify the defect, and properly correct it.
Why does a car stop running while driving but starts right back up?
Partially clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump is failing.
Why your car stalls when put in gear?
The engine is not turning enough RPMs to move the wheels through the transmission, so rather than the engine determining what the wheels are doing, the wheels are determining what the engine is doing. To quote sir isaac newton, "an object at rest will remain at rest"
TRY CHANGING FLYWHEEL ELECTRONIC SENSOR CABLE>
This is also known as the crank position sensor on these cars. I had the EXACT same symptoms from my 1986 190e 2.3, and the solution was to replace the Fuel Pump Relay.
I always thought if a relay went, the fuel pump simply would not pump fuel - However on this car is caused intermittent shut downs, 5 - 15 minutes apart and then seemed to restart after cooling down. Odd, but a cheap junk-yard part - just make sure the number on the relay itself are identical. This part is located directly behind the battery, and may be labeled with some numbers, "4cyl" or "w/kickdown" depending on model.
It could also be bad cap, rotor, and plugs I have a 91 190E did same thing runs fine now after replacing these
What if your car cuts off when cold?
if the temp outside is cold then let the engine warm up a few minutes before attempting to drive the car..... older cars like 98 and older tend to need warming up..
Why does my car starts but cuts off several times before it does?
It can be several things, 1. started going out 2. needs tune up badly, 3. fuel filter is clogged.
What is the Learjet 45 stall speed?
Learjets do not have stall speeds, per se. There are stall warning devices that trigger various combinations of warning lights and stick shakers, and in some models, a stick pusher to force the nose down. Certain models, the 45 being one, have airfoils attached to the tail that force the nose down from excessive angles of attack. They are called "Delta fin strakes". All of this being said one can force a Learjet to enter a stall condition somewhere in the vicinity of 103 knots, depending on the model. The test pilots do this to make sure that the actual stall characteristics meet the safety standard. Ordinary Lear pilots fly the aircraft with strict adherence to the required speeds for the various phases of flight, take-off, cruise, approach, etc. This assures that the aircraft will never be closer to the stall speed than 30% above it.
What is happening when vehicle stalls when foot is let off gas?
I had the same problem with my 1994 Saturn SC2 (1.9L DOHC) after hours of poking around, I found that my PCV valve was cracked (The tube that goes from your air intake to the top of your valve covers). Although it could be a problem with the vacum at any point. Check your air intake for cracks / leaks / gaps, and all the hoses leading to your engine.
2005 ford focus serpentine belt diagram?
It SHOULD be under the hood, either on the radiator housing or above your head, on the underside of the hood.
My guess would be that the catalytic converter is plugged, or maybe some other exhaust blockage. The exhaust cannot go through the system and the car stalls. As it "cools off" the pressure is actually equalizing, or coming back to atmospheric and the exhaust can flow freely again, for a while. I would check this scenario out, could be something to it.
What causes a engine to shut off while driving and will not start back up in a 1994 Acura Integra?
ignition control module also called the ignitor No it is not the ignitor. An ignitor helps start the car however it does not keep the car running.
