Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

My 1991 Oldsmobile cutlass red temp lite flashes and the check engine lite comes on it runs hot and rough then stalls replaced thermostat and two fan sensors?

Was the car actually running hot? Is there water in the oil? You could have a weak head gasket that starts to lek under driving conditions. Get it in the shop before you crack a head. If the car is running hot, does it over heat while driving or will it overheat at a stop? If it does it will driving, check your trans fluid. About half of nuisance overheating can be traced back to the trans fluid cooler in the radiator.

2002 GMC Envoy engine shuts off while driving?

From what I've found with my 2002 envoy, apparently there are issues with the fuse panel under the hood. If you remove the 2 covers on the fuse panel, you will see 3 bolts that hold the fuse box to the frame. These bolts also serve as a ground for that panel. Make sure they are all tight and even try loosening them and re-tightening them to make sure they are making good contact with the frame. I had one occasion where my envoy died in a driveway because I checked the fuses for issues and it caused that panel to loose ground. The other issue came about 2 weeks ago while I was on my way home on a 4 hour trip. It cut out unexpectantly while I was driving. I asked my dealership if this was a common problem and he said yes.

Why would a 1989 Ford Probe fuel inj stall out while idling and not start as if it was extremely low on gas?

A million different reasons. But, one thing you can check that won't cost money is to check the rubber tube going from the airflow sensor to the throttle body. If it is cracked, air will be leaking, causing it to bypass the airflow meter, and making the engine die. If not, then it could be any number of things and you will have to take it to a shop and get it taken care of.

Your car runs fine in park but in gear it shakes and wobbles then cuts off?

Get a can of throttle body cleaner, start the engine and when the engine is idling, spray the cleaner at all the vacuum hose connections and see if the engines starts to rev up a bit. If it does, you have a vacuum leak at that point. Keep checking you may have a few. If you have enough vacuum leaks your car can idle but as soon as you put it under load, the increased air throws the fuel mixture off and with too much air and not enough fuel the engine stumbles and dies.

Is it necessary to reset a car computer after installing a part?

No, it is not necessary. But unless your reset the check engine light you will not know you replaced the defective part.

2002 jeep liberty stalls after warm up tach goes erratic and injectors still dumping fuel until key shut off checked codes and says engine speed sensing circuit Where do you start?

I just had the exact problem you described. I replaced the Crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. This solved the problem. (The cam shaft sensor was probably the culprit but I changed both anyway.)

Car stall in reverse gear only?

There are several reasons that a car may stall only in reverse, the best way to narrow down the issue is to use a diagnostic tool. The diagnostic tool will show which sensors on the transmission may be malfunctioning enough to stall the engine.

Why do people sniff while in a stall in the bathroom?

To let others know you're in there, without giving away your identity. This prevents anyone from trying the door.

Why would a 2004 truck start run at idle then die?

Could be any of several issues including but not limited to: clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump (or perhaps a blown fuel pump fuse), or even something as simple as a vacuum leak. A bad fuel pump can sometimes supply enough pressure to provide the fuel needed to idle, but as soon as there is a load on the engine it is starved and cuts out. Same with a vacuum leak, it will idle fine until there is a load on the engine.

With the engine off (alot of moving parts you don't want to get caught up in) Look for a hose that seems to be disconnected. If you dont have or cant get a repair manual (haynes or chilton's) checkyour local library, many carry a wide selection of repair manuals in the reference section and they all include a troubleshooting section that may help as well as vacuum diagrams to help you chase down a vacuum leak.

If it is a Ford, there is an inertia switch that can be triggered by an accident or even a hard run in with a pothole. It shuts off the fuel to the engine. If that's the case, below your radio where the hump is in the middle of the floor is a black panel right along the carpet. If you remove that the switch is hidden behind there. Just push the red button down and it will reset.

Does gasoline with ethanol gum up a carburetor?

Pure ethanol will not gum up a carburetor. However in high concentrations it will disolve or corrode anything in the fuel system that is not chemically compatible, especially at higher temperatures. Disolved contaminates will go right through a fuel filter and can gum up a carburetor as the ethanol vaporizes and they come out of solution.

While driving dashboard lights will flash then car stalls?

While driving, the dashboard lights will fall and the car will stall if the vehicle goes dead. This can be caused by a lack of fuel or mechanical failure.

Why would a 2002 Nissan Altima engine stall immediately after starting?

I am having the same problem with a 1998 Nissan Altima. The engine runs fine at idle. When you press the gas the car stalls out. I'm down to replacing the gas pump in hopes of fixing this problem.
