Why would a 1993 Ford Probe 4 cylinder cut off and stall when car is driven for 10 minutes?
hi! i had the same problem on my '94 SE and it was caused by the distributor.
Look for a broken or missing rubber vacuum cap on a vacuum port on the front side of the intake. If it is broken or missing, the vacuum leak will cause certain sensors to misread and it may overfuel the engine. ANY substantial vacuum leak will do that also. The classic symptom is that it runs fine for up to 15 minutes froma cold start. If it cools down and runs good again until it warms up, that is the clue. It has to do with the point where the fuel system goes from open loop into a closed loop operation.
What would make a 1997 Neon stall out and not restart?
check sensors, cam right side top, crank near oil filter, check cam pully for broken orientation pin.
Where is the fuel filter on a 1986 Volkswagen GTI located?
underneath the back of the car next to the tank, just follow the fuelline and you come to a cylinder type looking canister with a line going in and going out, make sure you clean it well and spray with lots of Penatrating oil to make sure that the fittings don't brake off...good luck
1985 Dodge van engine dies when dropped in gear?
You might have a problem with the torque converter or the lock-up relay.if it misses that could cause it to die. if it has a carburetor the idleing speed could be set to low
prob a vacume leak
change your gas filter
Where is the throttle position sensor on a 1990 dodge Dakota?
Look for a black plastic sensor attached to the throttle body. Expect it to be black in color and directly opposite the throttle cam (where the throttle cable attaches.)
What causes a car to shake and vibrate when accelerating up to 70 or better?
Normally a bent wheel or tire out of balance.
Why would your automatic car start fine idle fine but when you put it into gear it stalls?
IF IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR, THEN IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR CLUTCH IS BAD/WORN OUT.
Hesitation means a pause or delay in performing an action, or while engaged in an action. It may indicate fear, reluctance, uncertainty, or faltering, as in a speech.
In automotive terms, it means an engine that is slow to react when trying to accelerate, as if it is being impeded somehow (normally by lack of fuel or air).
Why does a Chevy 350 cut out while accelerating but rev up and idle just fine?
Check your fuel pump/fuel filter. On the newer fuel injected cars/trucks a restricted fuel filter will allow the engine to perform properly until a fuel demand limitation is reached. Operation may be normal at 60mph and then feel like it has hit a wall at 65mph when the fuel delivery is not sufficient for engine operation at the increased load. Acceleration is the same condicition low fuel flow due to the blocked filter not allowing full fuel flow to the engine.
Can you drive your car if it stalls when idle?
I had that issue with my 02 cougar xr. It started and drove fine but at stop signs or stop lights it would die. There are a couple of ways to fix this. I replaced my IAC valve or idle air control valve and it idled better but after a while it would still stall in the long run, so there's a possibility. Before replacing it take it off and check for cracks and gunk build up. The next step is i checked for any leaks in vacuum hoses. The problem i was having was that my TPS (throttle positioning sensor) had fallen out of my intake system. I hope this helps.
It's Pontiac that's your problem.
Car starts in rain then chugs and stalls?
If it only happens in rain and damp weather it is likely related to the ignition system. Moisture could be getting into something and shorting out the ignition system.
Simple culprits can include a cracked distributor cap, badly worn rotor (unlikely), worn or cracked plug wires. There are other items, but they get more complicated from there.
The cracks or problems with these parts can be hard to spot, the cracks can be invisible to the naked eye.
If it is still damp out, try taking the distributor cap off and spraying the inside of it with WD-40 (the WD stands for Water Displacer, and will remove the water), also try spraying the plug wires.
If it is dry out and the car is running normally, get a spray bottle filled with water, and spray the distributor cap, then spray the plug wires. If you spray something and the car starts chugging and stalling, that is likely the bad part and should be replaced.
If it has been a long time since the car's last tuneup, the simplest route may be to put new cap, rotor, and plug wires on it and see if that solves the issue.
Vauxhall astra cutting out while driving?
This is happening to mine too - nightmare! There are no reports on the fault log on the computer (after having this checked at the garage) so its difficult to pinpoint the cause. Some days its fine and I can drive 300miles other days I get 5miles down the road and it just cuts-out. I find that if I wait 5-10 seconds before trying to restart its normally ok. Very dangerous though - as its more common when I am slowing down or speeding up - e.g. at junctions. The RAC guy recons it is a corroded contact on a lead somewhere causing a poor connection as the engine moves on accelerating. Plausable but I have filed-down the contacts but no change. I have replaced the elderly battery - but this hasn't fixed it. I notice that in other post on this site someone reports that the distributor was to balem in their car with a similar fault. It may come to this!
That might be the PCV pipe or some other vacuum leak. That will cause stalling.
If a car overheats and cuts off is the motor completely damaged?
No but you will need to buy and replace the thermostat. Shouldn't cost more than $5.00 with tax.
Not always the thermostat, it could be vaporlock. You could have air coming into your cooling system do to a hole in the radiator or a leak in a hose. But no serious damage unless you keep running the car hot, you could blow your head gasket, and that can get messy, and rather expensive.
ANSWER
Both of these are completely wrong. I am an ASE master certified technician with an automotive degree. I currently run a repair facility. I have never heard of vapor lock on a coolin system. It is impossible. The thermostat could have caused your initial overheating, but would not cause it to die. 98% of the time your engine has been damaged. If it restarts and runs rough, hopefully it's just a head gasket. If it will not start at all, more than likely you warped your head beyond repair. Alot depends on the vehicle and if it is an aluminum head or cast iron. Neither of these individuals should be answering automotive questions.
Bad MAP sensor, throttle position sensor, O2 sensor, many possibility's it would be a good idea to get it down to a repair shop for an exact diagnosis.
Why does your car feel like its going to stall and engine shakes?
Quite possibly a vacuum leak, or problem with fuel flow. Vacuum leaks can be bad at idle and cause it to stall, a fuel problem would make it very difficult to move at all.
Why does your car stall when you put on the brights?
If everything else seems alright w/ your car there's a chance the alternator may be on it's last leg. They get weaker w/ age and sometimes the load of the high-beams just uses so much juice that there;s not enough to run your ignition system. Also on the 86-91 fords the electrical at the light switch as well as at the alternator.connector tends to melt and cause short circuits. Either way I'd take it to a competent repair shop, one that hires ASE Certified Master Auto Technicians. IT could be something as simple as a faulty voltage regulator. I can't be more specific because I don't know what vehicle I'm working on.
