Why will the key start your car but it wont shut it off?
You need to replace the ignition switch. Too much play in it.
Vw 2003 jetta won't turn over?
Could be your battery, starter, ignition, check them... would start with the battery !
Is the starter position the same for a 1993 deville without northstar?
I don't believe there are any 93's with the northstar engine. If there are the answer is no, the location is different. Starter is under the intake manifold on Northstar and it is in the front of the engine under the exhaust maniold on the 4.9 litre engine
Tkm 125 go kart will run for a few seconds cant get it to stay running?
i have the same problem mate. could be your jet settings or the fuel tappers in your carby. pretty sure that's what my problem was. ... cheers
What do you do if your car won't start?
make sure your battery is charged, check the battery cable connections, get your starter and alternator checked, then ask a mechanic. then push it off a cliff and buy a new one
if you have to cars use thebattery from the car that works and use that for the car that doesn't work
If you have some power for other accessories, try a jump start & then check alternator when you get it going.
sometimes you can bypass the security sensor. It's built into the ignition switch. Some GM's If you leave the key in either the run or acc (don't remember which( Just try both) for at least 10 minutes. Then try to start. Alot of the GM cars will. This is only a temp fix though.it may stop working after a while. It should be checked at a dealer. hope this helps out a bit. good luck.
Why does my car starts but cuts off several times before it does?
It can be several things, 1. started going out 2. needs tune up badly, 3. fuel filter is clogged.

michaelfahey@comcast.net Date:9/13/2004 Subject:1995 jetta You have two choices fix the alarm by installing a new tumbler, or disable your alarm. Either way you'll need to remove the drivers door handle. Open the door, undo the torx screw just above the lock, turn key clockwise and hold, then pull gently out and back. Handle will release 80% of the way, now slide the latch that is attached to the handle release to the right. The door handle should now be out. Take out the pin which compresses the spring? (It may have removed itself, and fallen into the door, leave it there, you don't need it anymore). Stick a small screw driver into the slot you see and turn it counter clockwise 1/4 turn to turn off the alarm. If you remove the battery, or boost it, you'll need to do this every time. Or you can fix it once and be done... Buy the new tumbler kit (they are built stronger than the originals, and have the parts you lost)! Not expensive. Then one screw at the base of the tumbler removes the lock mechanism, remove it with the key inserted, note the way that the spring is assembled. Replace each brass piece with your old ones in the order that they came out (to make your old key will work in the new lock), careful not to lose any little springs as you pull each one out. Assemble the handle, and lock the big spring in with the new hook pin at the end. Insert the handle into the door by hooking the release onto the latch on the handle. Turn the key to the right to insert handle all the way. Replace the screw. Test the lock with the door open (you need to close the door latch with a screwdriver, to simulate a closed door).

1999 Dodge Intrepid will turn over but wont start what can i do?
There are three other things a car needs to start and run besides having the engine turn over. The first is spark, so check the plugs and coils. also check the fuses to the ignition, engine computer and fuel pump. The next is fuel. Make sure there is fuel getting to the engine. Check to make sure the pump turns on when you turn the key (there'll be whine from the rear of the car for a second or two). If not, check the relay and wiring using a test light where the relay plugs in (there's a fuse box under the hood where the relay lives). Use a wiring diagram to find the control and load wires. The control wires will have one lead to ground (the engine computer) and another that has power when the engine is cranked. The load wires have one for the fuel pump and another constantly on. If these check out, replace the relay. If the pump doesn't come on after the wiring and relay check out, it may need to be replaced (this lives in the tank).
Another common problem with this car is if the chain (2.7 liter) stretches out and screws up the valve timing or the belt breaks (3.2 or 3.5 liter). These will not let the engine start either.
In the case of the 2.7 liter, the chain, guides and water pump will need replacement (very common failure with the 2.7liter) and these parts are about $500 to $750 not including labor. If this is a 3.2 or 3.5, the belt, tensioner and water pump will be about $150, not including labor.
I would get a service manual for this car if you intend on keeping it and take the car to a competent mechanic to check this out. These are not really easy to do yourself and you'll save more money in the long run.
A few things to check first. The wiring to the coil, make sure that its not shorted or broken. Next, check the coil wire (between the coil and distributor). Beg, borrow, or buy one and install it (got a second car? borrow its wire for a minute). If that's not the problem and you're certain the coil is getting power, then the only probable fault left is the coil itself. Have it checked out if you can, no sense throwing money at it if it's good.
Dodge Durango won't start battery ok clicking noise but then stopped clicking?
check your battery then the connections if it still wont start try changing the starter solenoid if possible
Will a defective starter solenoid cause your check engine light to stay on?
No. Use a code scanner to find out why the check engine light is on. You can borrow, rent or buy a code scanner from most auto parts retailers.
What are the reasons for no spark on a 1997 dodge avenger 2.5 v6?
The coil pack could be bad. More commonly the crankshaft sensor could be bad. When this sensor is bad the system cant tell where the cam location is and will no know when to send fire to the spark plugs.
Where do you put jumper cables on a Chevy suburban battery?
The proper way to use jumper cables to boost a low/dead battery: (1) one end of positive jumper cable to "dead" battery; (2) opposite end of positive jumper cable to "good" battery; (3) one end of negative jumper cable to "good" battery; (4) opposite end of negative jumper cable to GROUND on "dead" vehicle. Remove jumper cables in reverse order.
Is there anything wrong with turning on the headlights before starting the car?
I can't say anything is wrong with having the head lights on when starting the car. However I personally don't recommend having the headlights on when starting the car because you're putting a huge load on your battery and drawing current from many related engine components that are needed when you start your car. Many cars headlights will automatically come on when the engine is started but I would hope and think that these cars have some sort of delay that wont allow the headlights to pull a load from the battery until the engine is running. In fact I own a 2002 Blazer and when it is dark if you turn the ignition on the headlights will come on and when you turn the key to start it the headlights seem to drop out momentarily until the engine starts. I would think that the Blazer is designed for this then again to know for sure I would have to call or consult a pro.
AnswerAs long as you have a good battery and turning your lights on don't affect the starting of your car then it won't cause any problems,
AnswerThere is absoultly nothing wrong with turning on the head lights before u start the car because on a cold morning say 10 - 15 below this actually warms up the battery by putting a load on the battery and causing a chemical reaction that warms up the battey and thus allowing the battery the ability to start the car more effectivly. note: the battery must be sufficient for the car or it will not work find out how many amps your starter pulls and get the battery that pulls twice the amperage or cca(cold cranking amps) thisis displayed on the top of the battery labeled either ca or cca (cranking amps or cold cranking amps.)
Gee, I have been servicing cars for about 40 years and never heard that turning the headlights on when the temperature outside warms up the battery. When you are starting your car in extremely low temperatures, you want as much battery power as you can get to go to the starter. Headlamps draw the most current , besides the starter, in a car. Leave the headlamps on at 20 below for 1 hour and you will have a dead battery. Leave the lights off and everything else until the car starts,,,after a few seconds when the engine is running turn things on EXCEPT the lights until you are going to drive. Any charging from the alternator will be used to power the lights and the battery will not recover from the start correctly.
Why does a car sounds like it wants to start but will not turn over?
This is a murder mystery - Right? This is totally no comprendo. You are missing some or all of the clues and of the critical elements. 1 Is the starter running and nothing happening? Send more info please.
AnswerThis is not enough info. How do you know it wants to start?Q:I'm having a similar problem with my Hyundai it sounds as if the starter and alternator are working but the car just won't fire changed plugs and wires
Does it turn over? Does it turn over?
What could cause your 1998 Nissan Pathfinder to turn but not start?
answer:
Very little fuel...
-------------------------
This is only one answer to your question that could cause this problem. There are many things that could cause an engine to turn over but not start.
Lean fuel air mixture / lack of vacuum pressure / bad cap & rotor and so on. there are many things.
your driving a Chevy Monte Carlo and your petrols been robbed
What causes a car not to start?
If it does nothing at all when you stick the key in..it could be the battery is totally dead. If there is a "clunk" sound when you turn the key..it has to do with the starter, solenoid, or related to the starting area. It could be the battery still (not charged enough to start the car). Turn on your headlights and see if they are dim, won't light, or are bright. If they are bright, it usually is not the battery. No gas. Dead battery. The possibilities are numerous. Start with the easiest and go from there. Is there fuel? Is there power from the battery to make starter turn and make the spark plugs spark?
