What should you do if you have a flooded engine?
If it floods which can only happen with a carburetor engine not fuel injection and if it does flood let it sit for a few minutes and it will be fine.
Clicking usually is a sign of a bad battery or starter
What does it mean when your won't start or turn over?
I means you have a battery problem or a starter problem or dirty/loose battery cable connections. If the battery is operating the starter and the starter is turning the engine over but the engine won't start and run, you may have a spark problem or a fuel problem.
My Ford Aerostar cranks really fast but won't start Any one have a suggestion?
timing chain or gear is broken thats why it cranks so fast the starter is just turning the crankshaft not the cam. look or feel the rocker arms if they are not moveing its the the timing belt/chain
Ford Explorer service engine light?
The Ford Explorer service light will come on to tell you of a problem. The issue could be minor, or could result in loss of fuel economy, or cause engine failure over time.
93 z24 turns over but won't start?
This sounds like a fuel pump issue, an easy way to check this is to spray a flammable
liquid in to the intake manifold just in front of the throttle body, if the engine starts for a short time then dies it is not getting fuel.
A safer way to do this is to get a fuel pressure gauge and test the fuel pressure.
most newer vehicles require at least 55 PSI or more fuel pressure to start
After you put in a new battery why would it still not start in the morning in cold weather?
When you say not start, do you mean doesn't crank or does nothing when the key is turned? BClear.
For cold weather goto a low vic oil (ex. 5-30), clean/new plugs, fuel is clean - no water and choke system is working.
It is normal. In order for you to create a spark, the coil has to open and close.
Check and see if you have fuel pressure it might be the fuel pump. Before you replace the fuel pump try replacing the wiring harness first because they have a bad problem burning up. Just got done replacing mine and my brothers.
How do you replace a starter on a 2000 Cavalier?
Disconnect the - battery cable Raise and support vehicle Disconnect wiring harness at the top of starter Remove starter mounting bolts Twist starter to remove
Fuses usually blow because something powered by them draws too much power. -The solution is to fix the fault, NOT to fit a bigger fuse as I have seen some people do.
Why does the my engine shake during a cold start for 3-4 seconds and then is fine?
Engines will often "misfire" for a while when they're extremely cold. Misfire means that one or more cylinders aren't firing when the other cylinders are running. When that happens it feels like the engine is shaking.
There are many reasons why an engine might not run well when cold, anywhere from needing a tune-up to burned valves or even injector problems.
If it's been a while since the engine has been tuned up, try that first, but have the shop run a compression test while they're replacing the plugs.
Does a new car battery need to be charged?
No. If it needs charging then it has been in storage too long and is actually an old stock new battery. Take it back and ask for a replacement.
What is wrong with your car when it clicks when you try to jump start it?
Usually this indicates that the battery is low, BUT... since you question indicates this is happening while trying to jump start it with [HOPEFULLY] a FULLY CHARGED battery, then the problem is elsewhere.
The "clicking" sound is created by the starter solenoid "cycling." The solenoid has a spring to hold the contact points OPEN, and when you turn the key to the starter position, an electric current from the battery is supposed to pull the contacts CLOSED [against the spring] causing current to flow to the starter, thus causing it to turn.
The clicking of the solenoid means that there is not enough electrical current power to HOLD against the return spring, so the spring pulls the contacts open, and the battery tries to close them.
The cause of the reduced power in the solenoid must be found, identified, and corrected.
Although there could be several causes, these are the ones that come to mind at the moment:
I repeat, these are the most common causes that come to mind, and thus there may be something else.
NO ONE can tell you the specific cause without personally doing a "hands on troubleshooting" of the starter circuit of your vehicle.
Don't ignore that kind of sound. Find out what is causing it and replace or repair the faulty part.
A "grinding noise" can be caused by an alternator, water pump, idler pulley, heater fan motor, air pump or any of a long list of components, many of which can cause some serious problems if they seize or come apart.
How to put drivers side power window back on track?
you cannot put the window "back on track" the window regulator failed and will need to be replaced, good luck.
What kind of lame answer is that? Yours might have been - not everybodies is.
Why do my lights go dead when I try to start my car but it won't jump?
You more than likely need a new battery. Remove the battery and have it tested at you local auto parts store or Walmart.
How you know if you need a starter?
This is easy, if your car isn't starting then listen for a clicking noise everytime you turn the key. If you hear it then it's working, it must be something else... Check your spark plugs, make sure your fuel injectors (if you have them) are plugged in.
Chances are your o2 sensor is detecting an improper mixture of o2/fuel. Either your o2 sensor is failing or there is a hole between your air intake and the throttle body (Possibly on the rubber elbow).
Disreagrd the last answer, no offense but it doesnt make any sense. Sounds like you are talking about a carburated vehicle here, due to the fact that pumping the gas pedal in a fuel injected system does nothing. Chances are you have internal carburetor problems. Depending on the type of carburetor there can be a vast amount of non functioning parts. Have it rebuilt.
sounds like the ignition switch is connected to the gas pedal. My brother tells me that when it happens to me! I may be blond but my brother knows alot about cars!! Pukenstein@aol.com
Try pulling in the clutch
My Vulcan does the same thing
How do you know if your starter in your car is bad?
If the engine will not turn over then either the battery, starter, or ignition switch is bad. Turn on your headlights and have someone try to start the engine. If the lights go almost completely out then the battery is more than likely bad. If the lights just dim then the battery is probably good. Another way to check the charge of the battery is with a Digital volt meter. A fully charged battery will read 12.6 volts DC on the volt meter set to the 20 volt scale. If you do not see the light dim or go almost out, and hear a click, then the ignition switch is more than likely the culprit. This is assuming the main fuse is not blown. The only way to check the starter 100% is to remove it and have it bench tested at any auto parts store.
What are the symptoms of a faulty starter?
I guess that the first would be that your car wont start.
Otherwise look for slow cranking, spinning but not engaging the flywheel, grinding noises, or possibly a click but no turn but that is more often a battery connection issue or solenoid.
What would make my battery go dead after replacing it and the alternator?
The vehicle should ave a voltage regulator. If the battery and alternator are good then the regulator is most likely bad.
Your 1989 Beretta will not start it turns over and the lights all work fine?
Could be many things. This model year had weak coil packs. You might want to check that.
Answerit is possible that the fuel pump is not working or you have some bad gas that's the best i can dowolverine
AnswerTurn the key forward without turning the car on and listen for the fuel pump to "buzz" (Best if you have the door open with your foot pushing to door open/ajar switch so you don't hear the continuous "PING, PING" of the door.) If you hear the pump, pull a spark plug, reattach it to the plug wire, rest it somewhere in the engine (JUST DON'T HOLD IT IN YOUR HAND!!!) and have someone try to start the car. If you don't see a spark at the plug, spent $18 and purchase a crank sensor. More then likely your problem. AnswerI would say one of two things the coil packs ,but it is unlikley that all coil packs go bad at once,so the one I would try is the icm ignition control modual, get one from the junk yard first instead of spending a lot on new if its not it. AnswerI had the same problem. Turned out I needed to replace the coil packs and the ignition sensor.Had those replaced and the car fired right up on the first turn. Answertry a new computer id get one from the bone yard that u no is good AnswerI would try getting a code key from autozone and checking the code book for the code it gave you. I would also trie the ignition module or the computer.
