I would be highly suspicious of a loose gas cap or a poor seal at the gas cap. 1996 or newer cars have a self test that will illuminate the light if there is a leak in the fuel evaporative system. The Electronic Air Suspension on the 1996-2002 Range Rover is on its own communications buss. The engine management subsystem is a competely separate communications protocol and communications buss. The EAS requires a special made Serial cable and special software.

You need to have the computer codes read at the dealer or a parts store ( lots of them will do it for free ) the issue that your truck is having may have nothing to do with the gas cap. So, following some advice given on answers.com for earlier model ford rangers, I did go to the local autozone dealer who scanned the truck free of charge and informed me that the oxygen sensor had failed. I purchased a new sensor and per the instructions, disconnected the negative battery terminal. I was unable to replace oxygen sensor on my own, but after reconnecting battery terminal and restarting truck, realized the check engine light had gone off.
